Any books about dragons you would like to talk about?

I would like to ask if anyone has read the Inheritance cycle and what you thought of it? Do you like the idea of Dragons and thier riders, and Eragon & Saphira? x

Dragons in literature:

*E. Nesbit, The Book of Dragons (1900): Various dragons, such as a red dragon that comes to life out of a magical Book of Beasts

*E. Nesbit, The Last of the Dragons (1925): the last dragon on earth, who is tired of being expected to fight a prince for a princess, and becomes the princess's pet instead. Drinks petrol ("that's what does a dragon good, sir") and, at his own request, is eventually transformed by the king into the first airplane.

*C. S. Lewis, The Pilgrim's Regress (1933): the cold Northern dragon, slain by John, and the hot Southern dragon, slain by Vertue. The Northern dragon is so greedy that his anxiety for his gold hardly lets him sleep. He recalls eating his wife, saying, "worm grows not to dragon till he eats worm," a loose translation of the Latin saying, Serpens, nisi serpentem comederit, non fit draco. The Guide explains that dragons always live alone because they have become dragons by eating their own kind. Lewis reiterates the notion of cannibalistic dragons in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (see below).

Smaug is a classic, European-type dragon; deeply magical, he hoards treasure and burns innocent towns. Contrary to most old folklore and literature J. R. R. Tolkien's dragons are very intelligent and can cast spells over mortals. See also dragons listed at Dragon (Middle-earth).

The first series that I read about dragons was by Anne McCaffrey. Anne McCaffrey

I'm not quite sure which book is the first in the series at this point but I've enjoyed them over the years. Her son has co-authored and written additional books in the series.

What I liked most was that it wasn't your typical knight in shining armor chasing the mythical fiend. Rather it is a post space travel culture that evolved around the species and has a trail of breadcrumbs that lead you to the society and the species genesis.

Just to give you a tidbit, the dragons bond with their riders for life and the world of Pern takes you from the hatching grounds where the awkward babies imprint to flights of fancy.

I hope you check it out if this sounds interesting and that you enjoy them as much as I have.

I have read loads of Anne McCaffrey's books over the years, as i am a huge fan of fantasy genre and think that they are really great!

These first two books of my fantasy series involve a modern-day fantasy team of Black Ops agents, made up of a paladin knight, wizard, cat-girl, and dragon woman, who are tasked with confronting demonic evils under the guidance of the CIA. The second book tells the life's story of the dragon woman, Ariel, including how she came to be a dragon in the first place.



This third book, and a fourth coming next year, follow Ariel's daughter Alanna, who has some dragon powers inherited from her mother, as she fights a despot regime which has turned the U.S. into the dystopian New Empire of America, a regime which has also outlawed supernaturals of all kinds and slated them for extermination.

I would like to mention a *new* book by an author, which has caught my attention. To those who love epic fantasy and Dragons i would say that 'The Dragonsoul saga' looks amazing by J T Hartke and i cannot wait to read and review it!

Hi, I was just wondering if any of you have read any dragonlance novels? I grew up reading them and they are filled with dragons! I have almost all of them on my shelves at home so if you need any suggestions let me know.

That is kind of why I didn't read them, it sounded cool but I wanted to see dragons. I am so spoiled!

I guess I liked how the authors wrote about the dragons. They were not mearly an animal that you rode into battle with a dragonlance but creatures with emotions and personality. I like how each colour of dragon has its own personality and magic. I loved the silver ones who were on the side of good but I was also very attached to a blue dragon called Khellendros (skie) He served evil for a long time but he had his own agenda. The stories themselves are all well written and full of everything you would want in a fantasy. Many of them are stand alone novels but the serries The Chronicles Trilogy is the best place to start your journey through Krynn.

I noticed a couple of authors who mentioned their own books, so I am assuming it is okay. Of course, you know what they say about assumptions, so if I'm wrong, please let me know.
