2. I was disappointed with Gregory's descriptions. Her adult novels have such a historic feel to them and I felt that she didn't include enough of that in her YA novel. This may have because Gregory felt that teens don't care about these things, but I think YA readers are still looking for that feel of the medieval world, at least more descriptions on the clothing.
3. I don't really trust Brother Peter or the order. I think as the series progresses the order will become more sinister, which would be a reason to keep me reading the series. I think the location is a secret simply because they are controlling Luca and making sure he does what they want. I am betting that Luca is going to start causing mischief as the story continues.
4. Yes I think Ishraq has some kinda of power. After all, she was speaking to Luca in his dreams and was mostly the reason why Isolde and she escaped. I have no idea how they got out of the chains.
5. I am a little disappointed with Gregory's first YA attempt. I often thought the language was too young or the subject matters too advanced. It seemed she couldn't decided if this novel was more suited for 12 year olds or 15. As previously mentioned, her historic feel was lacking in this book. She didn't have any of her typical elegance with her language or descriptions. I never really felt the unique time period or location.
1. Did you like Luca and Isolde? Were they good characters? How were the side characters? Did they help the story or were they filler?
2. Was the time period authentic? Did you feel swept away to the medieval time period?
3. Do you trust the order that has sent Luca out to investigate? Why do you think the next investigation's location is a secret? Do you trust Brother Peter or do you think like Freize that he is a spy?
4. How do you think Isolde and Ishraq escaped the chains? Do you think Ishraq has supernatural powers, why or why not?
5. Did you like the novel? How did it compare to Gregory's adult fiction (assuming you have read any)? Are you excited for book two?
