So, I love JLA. And I have read all the books in the Covenant series that are out to date, plus an ARC of Deity and Elixir. I keep seeing reviews that compare this series to Vampire Academy. I have these books and now I'm a bit worried to start them. What are you thoughts, without spoilers please.

I've only read VA series and loved them but haven't read The Covenant Series a lot of readers feel that the mirror VA series since that came out first but I really don't know

Amy (caligurlreads) I've never heard of the TC series, but loved the VA series. I'd loved to know what people say too. Now I'm intrigued.

The Covenant series is by Jennifer L., Armentrout, it's excellent.

You're welcome :)

Gabby | 704 comments VA, although i havn't read the covenant series yet.

I think you should give them a shot. If you liked the covenant series, at least you know you'll like VA!

Laura (laura_35) | 10 comments I've read both series and have to say that there are similarities, but only in the first book. Also, throughout both series, some of the characters sctions mirror those in the other series but nothing too close. All in all, both series are fantastic and have different twists in them that make them totally different from each other.

I didn't think about Twilight at all while I was reading the Lux series. Loved both series

chinami | 697 comments Vampire academy. Covenant is a mere copy of va with different names. Still pure was not s bad as obsidian and onyx .

message 11: by Marrie (new)

Marrie I've never read the Convenant series but I love VA. The main protagonist, Rose, is a total badass. I would recommend it:)

message 12: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | -2 comments I loved the Vampire Academy series. I actually read JLA's Lux series (what there is of it so far) before knowing anything about the Convenant books. I didn't think about Twilight once while reading the series. Since I liked the Lux series I thought I would look into her other books. I scanned through the reviews and noticed that people were saying it was like VA and honestly that's what pushed me to read the first book. Since reading the first two books in the series I have to agree that they are a lot like VA, but i am still looking forward to reading the third book. I recommend that you read both series.

message 13: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 53 comments Well, i have to say that i love both series. I have to say that the main character in both books are similer, both girl, both have short tempers, and both are badass. I think that everyone who is interested in YA should read it.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Iv read vampire academy books and covenant series neither where the similar to each other to me and the lux series is nothing like twilight either altho all books r on my fav list!!!!

Camila (previously the opinionated Catruler) (aliveorundead) Well, the first book of the Covenant series is A LOT like the whole VA series, but from Pure everything changes. I personally think VA is kinda better, but I love the Covenant series as well.
The truth is, yeah, Covenant is in some ways a copy of VA, but I like it anyway.
I think that what changes the most is the character development. At the beginning, Alex is Rose, Aiden is Dimitri and Seth is Adrian. But Rose grows up a lot more than Alex and has the whole protecting to death her BF factor, Dimitri has a different backstory from Aiden, and Adrian always remains the party boy, never turning kind of "evil" like Seth. He does change in his spin-off, but for better.

Natalie | 9 comments Of all that you mentioned, I have only read the Vampire Academy. This is such a good series; I did not want to put the books down and go do what I had to, including decorating the Christmas tree (if you know me, you know what a big deal that is for me, because decorating, especially for Christmas, is one of my favorite things in the world to do)!! I definitely recommend reading this series.

message 17: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (cf25) I can't say for sure since I've only read the Vampire Academy Series. TBH, I haven't heard of the Covenants Series.

Though if you want my opinion, go ahead and read VA. I love it.

message 18: by J.e. (new)

J.e. | 1 comments So I have read all of the books in both VA and TC. My initial reaction to TC in book one was that it was JUST like VA, particularly the first book. The protagonists are very similar, her male best friend, her main love interest and the line it follows in relation to their teacher/student (a bit of an age gap though far smaller here) relationship, the idea of the school, the differing classes with the people of only half blood being protectors of those with pure blood and magic, and the evil version of the pure bloods. It was shocking to me at first but also a very good book. As the series went on it began to differ greatly and by the last book they are on totally different tracks.

You kind of have to go into it thinking that maybe JLA read and enjoyed the VA series and that parts of it melted into her own spin on the "badass girl protector in training" story. It becomes a story of it's own from the end of the first book through to the last. I highly recommend the series to readers who have enjoyed the VA books. Though they are very similar at times TC offers great twists and turns of it's own.

message 19: by Lynn (new)

Lynn I've read all the VA series and loved them. I then read the first book of the Covenant series and while I enjoyed it and found it way too similar to VA.

I will probably go back to the series but I wanted to put a bit of time between me reading the VA series before I did that.

message 20: by Steph (new)

Steph I actually read The Covenant series first but read Vampire Academy after reading complaints on a few Covenant reviews. Honestly, I loved them both! I do have to say I was a bit disappointed in the VA movie though.

message 21: by Ishanya (new)

Ishanya | 2 comments I've read both and I have to say I am so glad I did. I agree that at first, The Covenant Series is sort of similar to Vampire Academy, but Alex and Rose and all the other characters go through different growing processes. The Covenant series also deals with different factors, simply because it's not really about "vampires" per say, rather, it is based on Greek mythology. Vampire Academy was based on Eastern European myth, but it did not revolve heavily on legends as did the Covenant Series. Of the two, Vampire Academy every time- EVERY TIME. I will say that I thought The Covenant series was really good at keeping me interested at every single point of the story, whereas with Vampire Academy, I found a little of the 4th and 5th book sort of....is overkill the right word? IDK, i just didn't love where it went. However, with Covenant Series, I did not have any major complaints about plot issues. I think that while Alex and Rose are similar, they are definitely different people and their stories definitely differ a ton- the ways they both grow and change are so great to read. I definitely recommend both series. You will love and dislike different parts of both series, but I think they're both worth reading.

message 22: by Ishanya (new)

Ishanya | 2 comments Also...the larger age gap in Rose and Dimitri was a little weird to me, but I like how Aiden isn't too far away from Alex.

message 23: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (yerawizardamanda) I've read both of these books and I honestly liked TC better. VA for me, the MC was a bit annoying and I honestly never got as dazzled by them. I've only read the first 4 books. I'll finish eventually. Now TC I read them all an d absolutely loved them. JLA has the effect with all her books on me tho. I love her works!

message 24: by Violet (new)

Violet | 99 comments The Covenant series ALL THE WAY!! :]
In fact I just started re-reading the series again for the 4th time.

Danielle (Danniegurl) (danniesreads) | 1326 comments I have read VA and then all of the spin off Bloodlines. After seeing the reviews for TC I did not want to invest in a whole new series that mirrors one I love. I feel like that is cheap and thus have yet to read it, though I think I would have read it if I hadn't have noticed the comparisons, and then drawn my own conclusions. I might read it though because it's been a while since I read VA and that might help me not draw the comparisons, but who knows. I am not a fan of copy cat series.

message 26: by harshini (new)

harshini (watchmeread) | 104 comments I love VA more than TC. I wouldn't call TC a rip off from VA, though Half Blood is very very similar to VA, but from Pure it is very different(its mythology!!).

message 27: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Tan | 1 comments I first read TC and I enjoyed it very much. While its packed with action scenes, it's also funny. I'm just starting with VA and found that it has many similarities with TC, the sad part is, it got so predictable. I hope that I will be able to overcome my reader's block and be able to continue reading the series. Thanks for all the comments!:)

message 28: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (misslady022) | 96 comments I have read both series and love them both but I have to say I love VA series the most. I can see the similarities but would say the copy one another. They are both Vamps books they both have an Heroine who is a bas ass and the whole falling for your trainer but other than that the similarities end. I really hated the ended to TC.

message 29: by Ayushma (last edited Jul 24, 2015 07:45PM) (new)

Ayushma Neku (user_ayushmaneku) Ok. I read The Covenant first and absolutely loved it! After a while, I read the Vampire Academy series.

I have to say the "core/plot of the books are similar" for Half Blood & Vampir Academy though.

E.g

Both the main characters run off from the "school". Both them "come back" to train and then fall in love in a "forbidden" relationship with their mentor. Did I mention that both books include "vampire" like characters?

Anyway, I absolutely LOVED both books so if you haven't done so, you should read them.

message 30: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda I've finished book 5 of VA; tough to even finish it and took me almost 9 months.

I've only finished Book 2 of TC.

Not fair to say, but I'll say with that in mind, I refer TC.

message 31: by Crystal (new)

Crystal | 76 comments I absolutely love VA and I read it twice thats how much I love it and also love vampires so yeah lol but I dont like when other series is just a copy of it which is what I heard about convent when I went to see if it was good...so I prefer VA plus I finished it fast

Claire (carebear53) | 1 comments I know this post is years old but I just had to comment.. I loved the VA series. It was one of the first full series I bought on my kindle when I got one years ago! I’m interested to see what the covenant is about now though so I’m happy to report I’ve just bought the first book in the series on my kindle ready for when I’ve finished my current read 😊

Covenant is really a rip off of VA there is a slight switch up of vampires to Gods but you will find many scenes are identical and they will stand out !! After the 3rd or so book the Covenant series does finally take on its own story but still there are slight similarities.

Oh yay!! The Covenant series is one of my all-time absolute faves, along with pretty much anything JLA writes. lol Highly recommend her Lux series if you haven't read that yet too. I only read the first of the VA books years ago and I wasn't taken by the characters back then, but I'm loving YA books again right now so I may pick it back up and see if I can get into it. Hope you love the Covenant series!!
