Jeane (pinkbookdragon) | 323 comments Hello! Karena and I have a very long list of Contemporary classic suggestions (way longer then the traditional classics) and I was just thinking that since we all have way more contemporary classics that we want to read, we do one of two things:

a.) We switch off during all the contemporary months books written from 1910-1960 and books written from 1960-Present.

or

b.) We add an extra category and make it so we repeat every three months. So it would be:

A Month-Traditional Classic- Any classic book written prior to 1910 (approx).

B Month-Contemporary Classic-Any classic book written from 1910-1960 (approx).

Month-Contemporary Classic-Any classic book written from 1960-Present? (approx).

Any ideas on this format?

Karena (karenafagan) Jeane can come and correct me if I'm mistaken, but we do want to clarify it still is Classic books. Just some that might be newer (e.g. The Cloud Atlas or Bonfire of the Vanities), not just any book written recently. So 50 Shades of Gray is still not a viable option (not to pick on it, it just seems to be the only book that comes to mind when we talk about this stuff for some reason).

Karena (karenafagan) I guess we should have closed this thread. We did decide to go with the three month rotation. Dec will be a traditional (pre 1910ish), January will be 1910-1959, and February will be 1960-2003 and then it continues. There may be months where we suspend the month's usual pic depending on what might be happening that month (e.g. Watch the month of April).
