This is the area to get to know one another! Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Who you are, your hobbies, besides reading of course, what genre you like to read and maybe your favorite book/author!

I will start!

My name is Heather and I am a SAHM. I LOVE to read, however, I also love to do a lot of other things! I knit, crochet, scrapbook, cross stitch, craft, garden, sew, cook and pretty much anything else you can think of!

I created this group because I noticed that my "to-read" list was getting OUT OF HAND! Mostly due to all the free books I have accumulated since I got my first Kindle. This little challenge of mine will hopefully fix that "problem" I have.

I mostly enjoy Paranormal Romance but I also enjoy Historical Romance, Mystery, and the occasional Young Adult book.

My favorite book is "Whitney My Love" Whitney, My Love (Westmoreland, #5) by Judith McNaught by Judith McNaught.

My favorite author is Nora Roberts. I can pretty much read ANYTHING of hers and LOVE it. Especially her older books.

I hope you all find this challenge interesting as well and feel free to join in the conversations and let us know about the free books you have come across!

HAPPY FREE READING!

~Heather

Bree Vanderland (breevanderland) | 2 comments Well, I'll go next even though I literally JUST joined the group xD

My name is Brianna, but everyone I know has called me Bree or Bria since I was little. I'm only 19, but I read A LOT and can always be found either on Facebook or with my nose in a book.

My reading list consists of Paranormal, horror, thriller, mysteries, historical fiction, and some of the classical literature as well as books on music (writing, reading, playing... I'm majoring in music education...)

My favorite book.... Choose any of the Harry Potter books and I'm set xDD - Books from my childhood that I absolutely LOVE, but if I couldn't choose them, I would choose "Wish you Well" by Dan Brown. Amazing book to check out if you haven't read it.

My favorite author would have to be Philippa Gregory. She got me hooked on the Tudor time era with historical fiction with "The Other Boleyn Girl" and continued it with her other novels on the subject. I absolutely adore her and her novels.

Errrmmmmm... I really don't know what else to put here other than I'm the owner of the Facebook page "Reading Fiction for Life" and we have our own Goodreads group too >.< Lol. Anyway, I believe I have taken up enough of your time with this really long introduction, so...

BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

Happpy Reading <3

Genres I usually read are Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Erotic Romance (does not have to be paranormal themed) and I've recently gotten into Contemporary Romance.

You can find me on Twitter @TheBookNympho And Facebook

My Free reads are all on my NOOK.

message 6: by Adelina (new)

Adelina | 3 comments Hey all! My name is Adelina. I love to read. Always have :) My dislike genre is smaller than my like, so I'll give you that. I don't read -
romance (it has to be really clean for me to enjoy it)
horror

so yep...historical fiction, dystopian, YA, childrens, non-fiction, clean romance, etc I read it.

My FAVORITE book of all time is The Giver by Lois Lowry. It's quickly followed by The Hunger Games series.

Karen B My name is Karen and I am an avid reader. I am in my early 60s and I presently live in Guam as my husband is teaching here through the Dept of Defense.

I love my Kindle Touch. Some military base libraries are fantastic and others leave a lot to be desired. Having a Kindle makes almost any book available to me. Of course freebies are my favorite, as my household budget doesn't allow for me to buy many books.

I also enjoy various kinds of needlework and I dabble in cooking different cuisines. The Chamorros (natives of Guam) have some delicious standards that I am trying to duplicate in my kitchen.

Melissa | 1 comments Hello everyone! My name is Melissa. I live in Mobile AL.
I love to paint when I have the time. And I love to read. I am not sure that I have a favorite genre.I started reading romances such as Janet Daily when I was a teen. But as I have gotten older I have dabbled in other genres, non-fiction, mysteries. I mainly just love a well written book. One of my favorite books is "The Shack" which blew me away. Another favorite is "Heaven is for Real". I do not get to read as much as I would like. But I still love a really good book.

(:

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Hello, I'm Hugh. It's too hard for me to figure out my favorite book, I like too many of them, so the one I'm reading lately, is Origins (the Spinward Fringe Series) but, probably the funnest of the year is Monster Hunter International.

I hope you have a speedy recovery Heather... to me, that sounds like a prime reading opportunity.

Schmacko | 2 comments Name is Stephen and I am a 43-yr-old SAHH (stay-at-home homosexual). No, actually, I’m an organizational psychologist and part-time film critic, so most of my work is from home. I’m from small-town Iowa, raised by Northern Irish Catholics, and I’ve lived in downtown Orlando for nearly 20 years.

I’m a super-snob for prizewinners; I read the Pulitzer, Nobel, and National Books every year – I’m in love with Michael Chabon, Willa Cather, Evelyn Waugh, Junot Diaz, Julia Glass, Edmund White, Geraldine Brooks, and Michael Cunningham. (In taste, it looks like I’m the minority here, but I’m a sucker for a beautiful turn of phrase. I’ve been known to cry over great books.) I also read lots of plays.

I used to read about 30 books a year, but these last two years I’ve read 38 and then 49 books, respectively. I hope to read one book a week in 2013, including at least one classic a month. I’m not going to push it beyond that, because it ain’t a horse race. I have a Sony S tablet, and I have apps for reading pretty much any format.

message 20: by Schmacko (new)

Schmacko | 2 comments Good question! Actually, Wikipedia has a pretty good explanation.

"Industrial and organizational psychology (also known as I/O psychology or work psychology) is the scientific study of employees, workplaces, and organizations. Industrial and organizational psychologists contribute to an organization's success by improving the workplace and the performance, satisfaction and well-being of its people. An I/O psychologist researches and identifies how employee behaviors and attitudes can be improved through hiring practices, training programs, and feedback and management systems. I/O psychologists also help organizations transition among periods of change and development. Industrial and organizational psychology is related to organizational behavior and human capital."

Some I/O psychs are on the process end, developing how the work gets done, signage and arrangement that helps business or customer, workflows, et cetera.

I handle the human end, the interpersonal; I coach people, I help improve customer service, I teach managers how to manage their people. I also teach a lot of classes, both at the corporate level and at the college level. I'm one of the instructors Disney uses to teach its foreign students about American business values and interpersonal practice in business. I do a lot of personal counseling for people who a business, government agency, nonprofit organization wants to keep or promote. Not a lot of this is cognitive site, so I don't help with how sad people are that the puppies ran away when they were seven.

I just get people so that they do business with each other really well.

Elizabeth Stultz (wicketwillowbean) | 1 comments My name is Elizabeth and I'm 24 years old. I live in Kentucky (Louisville, to be precise). I have a BA in psychology and did two minors in English with a concentration in literature and Medieval Studies. I studied French for 5 years and have experience with Japanese, German, and Latin. One of my dreams is to translate Medieval Latin and French manuscripts. The other is to eventually become an archaeologist.

Currently, I work with toddlers as a teacher in a daycare. It's not exactly my dream job, or the best use of my degree, but it works for now. I am going back to school in August to work towards a degree in education so that I can become a third grade teacher. I also plan on doing another major in either microbiology or anthropology. I do enjoy some aspects of my job such as being able to teach my children and the joy that I receive when they finally catch on to what I've taught them. I also enjoy the smiles, hugs, and kisses that I get from my kids when I come to work in the mornings.

I am an avid reader and have been since I was a child. I generally read anything except westerns, romance, and inspirational/Christian books. I quite enjoy horror, fantasy, historical fiction, and mysteries. I have also gotten into the Quirk classics recently. Right now, I am reading Android Karenina. Classic literature is another favorite of mine with Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, HP Lovecraft, Victor Hugo, and Gaston LeRoux being among my favorites.

I look forward to making new friends.

-Elizabeth

message 42: by AnAnon (new)

AnAnon OvO Hi all~ I'm glad to find people who love books as much as me :)
I'm not really one for talking (typing), because words don't seem to come as easily as the way I enjoy them, so I'll keep this brief, but I do hope I can get to know you all better.
Favourites right now would probably be some YA like Poison Study (Maria V. Snyder in general) and Graceling (and Fire and Bitterblue too) and Pushing the Limits and Hopeless and Slammed and I can probably go on and on...but usually only on the subject of books haha~ and most disliked is stuff I read in English Literature like A Passage to India -.- that was wayyy boring.
Ehhh...anything else to be added OvO reading, sleeping, music (EXO at the moment *Tao* to anyone who knows ^^), and manga - yes absolutely love reading manga (The Breaker: New Waves, The One, Kuroshitsuji, Bloody Monday, all the popular ones pretty much as well and some obscure ones - most genres are interesting)~ as much as I love novels I think :)
Well, this whole message seems pretty long now...so I apologize about the "brief" amount of time taken to read this, but well...actually not too sorry xD
Whenever I think about writing something, I wish it was this easy for words to flow...usually it's a perfect scenario in my mind but then when I put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) it seems content to only stay in my head *sigh* T^T
Yep that's my intro~ if anyone interested in discussing/recommending novels/manga, feel free to message/friend me >w<

Jennifer Giles Hinojosa My name is Jen and I love to read of course but I also like going for hikes, working in the yard, and listening to good music.
My favorite book of all time is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, who is also my all-time favorite author.
I love to read a little bit of everything including historical fiction, paranormal, horror, thriller and anything on the JFK assassination.
I tend to get a lot of free books because I can't afford to buy brand new most of the time but I have found a treasure trove of indie authors that I just love and can't wait to share them with all of you.
I am always on the lookout for a great free book so this group is perfect for me. I hope to get to know a lot of you fellow readers.

Eliza Wyatt (Eliza_Wyatt) | 1 comments Hey everyone!

My name is Eliza-- I'm a programmer, fantasy junky, and an author (currently finishing the second of a fantasy novella series). I love anything written by Neil Gaiman, George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan saga, CS Lewis' "Till We Have Faces". So... fantasy intrigue. (I'm also mildly in love with Doctor Who, but...)

Anyway, I'm trying reading ebooks at the gym, and I need to check out some new authors, so I thought I'd stop by. ^^ ... Is it terribly tacky to add one of your own books to the free list?

message 46: by Larissa (new)

Larissa Mabbott | 6 comments Hi My name is Larissa and I am a 27 year old travel agent that loves to read.

I'll almost immerse myself in anything except murder mysteries or any of those who-did-it type books. However my favorite authors are tamora pierce (as she was the childhood author that I discovered my love of books with), Diana gamboldon (suggested to me by my nan who loves a little adventurous romance) and currently rachelle mead who I am devouring anything I can get my hands on that she has written.

Generally I follow the trends and ask friends and family for suggestions on what author or series to consume next but that is not necessarily an affordable method of discovering new reads. So I have already scoured your posts and downloaded quite a few free books thanks. I do hope you keep up the posts and I'll do my best to contribute so when I get through these it's easy to find more. :)

Nina | 3 comments I am Nina just turned 62 . I live in New York City and don’t have TV what I hear about it sounds so ridiculous although I like all kinds of music and I love dance too, I enjoy Zumba and reading is primary entertainment. I have a full social and active life and when I ride my bike to work I listen to books otherwise I read them. One of my favorite authors is Wally Lamb I like everything he has written. Love Jane Austin too. I also like everything Alexandre Dumas has written. I loved the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged equally & re-read them about every 10 years, when I have overdosed on light romances. I like to travel to other countries when I can afford it or I travel in my reading.

message 49: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Golden | 6 comments My name is Kathy. I am an author and an avid reader and supporter of books by indie authors. I also offer author services such as manuscript evaluations, book trailers, and paid editorial book reviews. I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited, and to sites like Bookbub and Booksends where I can receive emails about books in the genres of my choice. If anyone knows of some other sites where I can choose the notifications by genre, I'd loved to hear about them.

I read romance, Christian Fiction romance, mystery- and crime-thrillers, and some paranormal and fantasy. I love family dramas, and I read the occasional science fiction. The idea behind this group is wonderful. I found it while searching for groups where authors can share their free books. But in the true spirit of the group, I'm going to go back and take a look at the many free books on my Kindle and see which ones grab my attention. I hope to find a forgotten jewel or two and share it with the group in a couple of weeks. My thanks to you, Heather, for starting it.
