message 2: by Eva (new)

Eva King this is a really good idea, mostly because everyone will understand when you are at your wits end and about to give up.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I know right! I feel stuck right now so i'm taking a break till like 3:10. then I'm going to try and write!

message 4: by Eva (new)

Eva King I haven't had a chance to write a lot today, between going to buy food and a kid party only managed to sit down at lunch time, and right now im so tired that would drop my finger at the letter a and make the word count that way. lol
What genre are you writing?

message 5: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Arnold (nahteeraisamanthaarnold) I'm so busy with school and when I come home I'm just so tired that I finish my homework and chores then just fall asleep. :( I don't have much time to write. I also have to babysit.

message 6: by Nicolas (new)

Nicolas Wilson | 18 comments uuuuuugghhh. I've only gotten half of today's quota. I hate being this busy with other work. I really hope next week is slower. Seems like I haven't gotten to do anything this week but put out fires.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

:( i'm sorry you guys. I really hope and pray that you'll have the energy and time to work. keep it going! Right now I am so tired. I've been emotionally drained for the past few days, my family, we are trying to dig ourselve out of being at rock bottom and it seems that some people just want to soak in the dirt then start looking up. me being one of them a bit. it hard to write when all you want to do is block everything out.

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) When you don't want to write, is actually the best time to write. I once was told by someone, that in order to keep up as a writer, you have to write something every day, be it a chapter or only a sentence! Just write! And if you don't like it, at least you still got some done and you can always go back and edit it.

message 9: by Nicolas (new)

Nicolas Wilson | 18 comments Yep, that's the best way to do it, Tabi. Just a little bit each day. I usually find setting numeric quotas to accomplish helps me feel like I get push through it just a little bit more. The important thing is just writing through the stress.

Hope things get better for you, Victoria. The lady and I had a period like that recently, and it drove us both batty too. I get through by focusing on what's ahead, past the rough patch, but she has to keep looking at the immediate situation, trying to feel that she won't miss opportunities in the present. So nothing really got done, because we deal with it different ways. She depressed me, grounding me in the crappy present, and it scared her, not seeing the connecting lines between our current situation, and a better future. You guys will bounce back from your rock bottom though, and you'll come out of it with some emotional writing you couldn't have gotten otherwise. Keep your head up!

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

The computer died.... like crashed... and it has all my story on it.....

message 11: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Arnold (nahteeraisamanthaarnold) Oh no! :O That really sucks Vic! What're you gonna do?

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

idk... Sadly i've mostly been doing my story in my head so far because i got stuck on writing. I really don't know, but i've been drawing and its helped me a lot

message 13: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Arnold (nahteeraisamanthaarnold) Well that's good that art helps. Hope you figure something out soon. :/

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Ooh I just did a drawing of one of my characters for this book I'm rewriting when I twelve lol I'll take a pic and post it soon XD drawing my charries really helps me with them I find lol

message 15: by Nicolas (new)

Nicolas Wilson | 18 comments YES! I am back in motion! One tough weekend day stuck in the car with my laptop, and six finished chapters later, I've killed my word-count for the week, a day and a half into the tally. I'm still going to keep working on the same daily quotas, but I've finished 19 of the 30 chapters I planned on for the Singularity. This is a bit of a relief. I was a bit worried about getting through Na-No-Wri-Mo while working two jobs and an internship. Maybe I just thrive on not having a minute to sit still.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

O.o Nicolas you are to good at this. -.- make me feel like a snail! :D good job! hey BTW how many pages do you write per chapter?

Nicolas Wilson | 18 comments Victoria wrote: "O.o Nicolas you are to good at this. -.- make me feel like a snail! :D good job! hey BTW how many pages do you write per chapter?"

Lots of practice, Victoria. For years, I made myself write short stories and have them ready to post every week. Some of them were "meh", and some weren't, but it taught me a LOT about working under pressure, and writing something, even if it'll need a heckuvalotta revision to be palatable, or may actually get cut entirely. It helps that I don't consider myself a high-literary writer. Most of my background is in journalism and screenwriting, so I'm happy to write fast-paced, dialogue heavy stuff that works up very fast. But you spend nearly a decade plotting, writing, revising a chapter every week, or a short story every week, and you get VERY used to moving through rough patches.

The chapter lengths vary, which is why I track word count as well as chapter numbers.

Some of them may be just a page or two, and others may be significantly longer. (It wouldn't be the first time I've gone to revise something, and broken one chapter into 3-5 smaller ones, just for symmetry).

Anyways, the point of na-no-wri-mo is the challenge. We all write differently, and at different paces. So long as you're challenging yourself, and taking the liberty to focus more on your writing than you usually get to, you'll have a worthwhile experience. Let me know when you're project is done! I don't get to read very many new things(I'm a very very slow reader), but I'm looking forward to seeing your finished project!

message 33: by Sarah Louise (new)

Sarah Louise (keytan) hoookay so, does anyone know how to edit your notifications. I keep getting them from randoms with all these "free giveaway" msgs. Then I can't even find the threads I actually want to read. It's a total pain

Also I've had SUCH a hard time signing in, has anyone else?

message 34: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) I haven't, but how you edit notifications is you go to your "edit profile" where you can sign out as well, and in there is where you can do it.

message 35: by Sarah Louise (new)

Sarah Louise (keytan) My settings looks like were just for if someone replies to my comments or reviews and wants to be friends. I have nothing else checked off. So I really don't know why I get so much crap in my feed. boo :(

message 36: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah I spent a whole hour yesterday starting to outline my next NaNo novel, and finally had to pull myself away to finish school...I'm ready for November to come!

message 37: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Yay! I've got my novel outline ready for my first NaNoWriMo this year XD Its actually the sequel to a book I'm working on right now XD

message 38: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) Outline schmoutline. :)

I'm a pantser. Though my mind has a pretty good idea what I'm going to do.

message 39: by ♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (new)

♠ TABI⁷ ♠ (tabi_card) Its just I've got the whole series basically out of my head for now otherwise (Since I work on like three books at a time) I don't have to worry about using it haha...and my outlines are basically what I know is going to happen...the rest it ad-lib XD

message 40: by Haley (new)

Haley I've tried outlining, but its more like writing down notes. :P I get better ideas when I talk to someone about it then combining them to make one amazing story
