Luann (azbookgal) | 97 comments I'm not sure I completely grokked what I was meant to from Stranger in a Strange Land. I did find some of the concepts interesting, especially the comparisons between Martians and Humans. But I found myself enjoying the book less and less as I progressed towards the end. The Fosterite religion was much too strange for me - and then Mike took his religion to an even stranger place! I did, however, start to like it again towards the end. This is another book I wish I could have read in a class or with a group where I could discuss the book while reading it. There are a lot of interesting themes here. I'll be thinking about this book for a long time.

It's fun catching up on some classic books that I probably would never get around to if they didn't have a Lost connection. The ninth episode of the third season of Lost is called "Stranger in a Strange Land." It is the Jack-centric episode where flashbacks show him in Thailand and where he gets some of his tattoos. One of the obvious Lost connections in this book is the theme of science vs. faith. Also, there is a character in the book who is entirely covered in tattoos, which are an important part of her self-image and also her faith. Any other connections that I missed?

This has been sitting on my shelf waiting patiently for its turn to be read.... Maybe I need to bump it up a bit??

Luann (azbookgal) | 97 comments Do! Then we could discuss it. Or I could just be patient. We humans hurry too much. There's no rush. It will happen when waiting is filled.

(Ha! Couldn't resist. It's from the book. You'll see when you read it.)
