This quote alludes to the fact that innocence is seldom found in Pakistan. Like gentle canaries the innocent flutter, until the relentless force of gravity - the reality of the country - brings them down to the rotting surface; the corrupting mist of the fallen.

An appropriate image for the novel thus far would be a lone candle in the dark, as it aptly resembles the subversive nature of the main character and his rare ability to think critically; to reveal the truth and illuminate the corrupting darkness that lurks deep within society.
