Terri | 19576 comments Good news! I think we can say it is official....A&M is here for the long haul. :-)
Today we hit a milestone. 1000 members!! (Unless a member leaves and it drops back to 999).
Since we only turned 12 months old in late September' I think that is an amazing result.

But what's more important, although we are considered a big group on GR now, we have still managed to maintain the intimate and friendly group feel and I thank all our active members for that.

With the holiday season upon us, Thanksgiving in the US, school kids getting out of school for the year, things have been a little quiet these last couple weeks, so I hope all you members, active or lurker, are enjoying your holidays.

Thanks active members for the time you put into making this such a laid back group. And thanks to the lurkers. Our active members do not realise how many lurkers we have. :-) I hear from many via pms. Lurkers are enjoying our discussions and our groups reads and enjoy just going through the threads looking for inspiration.
Thanks also to our active members for enriching the era threads. Although you don't hear about it often, there are many, many people, who don't post, who rely on the way we have all enriched the Era threads.
When we see books we have not mentioned before and add them to the era threads, others a benefitting and are grateful.

It has been a pleasure moderating you lot! Thanks!! :D

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Whah-hey! Nobody leave today!

Hello to lurkerdom, too. Lurkers maketh a group. (Besides I might have to be one next year).

message 3: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Haha! I know! I was nervous that as soon as I posted this thread and compiled my congrats post, that I would go to the members list and it would not be 1000 anymore! I have been waiting all bloody week for it to click over to 1000 so I could post about it! Lol! It sat on 996 all week. Torturing me. :-)

I sighed a breath of relief when I saw it was still sitting on 1000.

Oh that would be disappointing..

message 5: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Sweet, and here I was the pessimist who thought it would take into next year to hit this milestone. :)

I've been paying more attention this month to who's been reading the group reads and those lurkers are enjoying them. Quite a few 4 and 5 stars amoung the uncommenting portion of our group. Very nice to see. :)

message 6: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments It is nice to see.. :-)
Every month when I send out the group read winners message (which will be in your inboxes soon fellows) I hear back from people via pm to say how they feel about the winners if they have read them, or to tell me that they are happy to see the winner/s and will be looking for it in their library or as an ebook and that while they are too shy to post, they will be reading the book if they can find it.

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Terri wrote: "Oh that would be disappointing.."

For me, yes. I've had a gap-year this year, and that's why I've been unshuttable-up. I'd better be less active next year, but I doubt you'll be rid of me. I enjoy this way way too much.

I'd like to thank the mods for this year. I'd have to be paid millions to be a mod, but you guys have done a fantastic job in every aspect.

(Is it Christmas yet? People are being so nice to each other...)

message 8: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Nov 24, 2012 05:19PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Bryn, thankyou very much. :-) Modding can be fun...I do hugely enjoy setting up the group reads every month...and yapping too much...but modding also can be a demanding little bit of volunteering. Lol. Rewarding though, so that's good.

Well I am happy that you have been unshuttable-up. And I'm glad that you will still try and swing by next year. :-) We have very few Aussies in here as it is.

It could be Christmas or holiday cheer abounding....but take comfort in the fact that we don't have to pat each other on the back again until we hit 2000!
:D

message 9: by David (new)

David Krae (davidkrae) Sweet! Congrats to everyone and thanks to Terri and the gang for setting the tone for a smart, thoughtful and informative group with a welcoming community culture. Cheers!

message 10: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Thanks David!

message 11: by Lee (new)

Lee Broderick | 482 comments I remember when all these here discussion threads were fields. As far as the eye can see....

Well done Terri and Dawn.

message 12: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Congrats Terri and Dawn!! You guys really are THE BEST mods and it shows in the awesomeness of the group! I lurked around a bit before I started getting involved. ;) I love the group reads and the discussions! I love looking through the threads, bit by bit. I haven't gone through every thread yet but I look at that as something fun to look forward to. :)

message 13: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Congratulations!
There's a reason this group keeps growing...well, several actually, but it's the humour, the openness to new authors and I think the two pronged monthly reads all help. Plus, while there's a desire to keep threads on track, there's no militant policy when the rails get a bit bendy.
It's warm and comfy - a local pub feel.
Thank you for that Terri and Dawn for hosting this and everyone else for being so friggin' cool!

message 14: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) We should post threads like this all the time, it makes a person feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

Thanks for all the compliments.

message 15: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Aw, come on guys! You are making us blush!
:-)
It is really good that the feel I get from the group seems to be the same feel others are getting and that is fab. The feedback helps us.
A local pub feel is the perfect description. :-)

message 16: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Hands up who posts drunk?

message 17: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Not me!
But I do post sleepy and that is nearly the same. :-)

message 18: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Well, you're our mod.. must be like the driver, too responsible to drink.

message 19: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Oh yes, nice. That's me. The responsible driver. :]

message 20: by Simona (new)

Simona | 1453 comments Wow! 1000? I didn't notice. (It's very Garibaldi-ish!)
I have to say that I "visited" some other groups but I haven't been able to find this friendly atmosphere anywhere else. So, good work Terri and Dawn, and thank you!

message 21: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I look for other groups that I like too but I never find any I like as much as this one. :)

Thanks Simona. That is lovely to hear. :-)

message 23: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments ......or I should say...'lovely to see'...not lovely to hear. :-)

message 24: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Yeah, I belong to twenty groups, but my chat statistics are through the roof with this one, as against the others. That's because of the atmosphere. Well, and the content.

message 25: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Don't look at my chat stats. I think I am something like 5000 posts in here.
But I suppose, having been in the group since it was first 'built' (September 2011) and being a mod, kind of excuses my excessive posting.

message 26: by happy (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments I spend most of my time either here or at the World War II group.

message 27: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Nov 28, 2012 01:05PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Which is funny, because Rick, Michael, Geevee and Mike are buddies of mine and Dawns. So you have landed in two groups where the mods are all mates :-)

message 28: by happy (last edited Nov 28, 2012 01:17PM) (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments Weird ain't it :D

Both groups have nice folks there

message 29: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments It is! It always makes me giggle when I see new members sign up and I see they are only in two groups, this one and World War II Readers. :-)

I just want to mention 5241 is the number as of this moment. By far the most prolific of us...... :)

message 31: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Named and shamed..*blush*

:-)

message 32: by Jerry (new)

Jerry | 35 comments Congratulations from an inspired lurker!

message 33: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

This is because you take care to answer to all of us (even to cookiemonsters) which I think is very commendable :)

message 35: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Well...cookiemonster was always my favourite. :-)

message 36: by Tasha (new)

Tasha He was always the sweetest one. :)

message 37: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments He was. And most kids like cookies. It was win win.

message 38: by Tasha (new)

Tasha haha, yes it was.

message 39: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I thought in honour of hitting the 1500 member mark I would mention that Terri is now sitting at 7548 comments. Which is over 4 times the amount of the next most prolific person in the group. :)

message 40: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Hahaha! :D Yeah..I am fairly prolific!

1500 members. Wow. So hard to believe sometimes that it is that many...and climbing every week.
Of course not all those 1500 are active, but members who don't post or vote on polls are still watching and getting book recommendations from our threads.

Well done everyone for spreading the word!

message 41: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I adapted the thread title to reflect the new membership number. :]

message 42: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I was checking out the date the group started (we are almost 2 years old!) and saw that we are also getting closer to 2000 members, which is quite exciting. :)

But the real reason I'm posting is that Terri is coming up to a milestone soon. She has currently 9505 comments and we all know that she will take no time at all to reach 10000 comments. All in less than 2 years!!

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow! 10,000 posts. That's an impressive statistic right there. We should get her a plaque or something. Especially since many of those posts are made to keep headaches, like me, in line.:) Post on, Terri!

message 44: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I've been here half the time, and haven't even posted a tenth of that. Impressive!

message 45: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I've been here almost exactly the same time and I've only posted a fifth of that. She's a very prolific woman!

message 46: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Haha. Well it takes a lot of work to keep a group active. :-)

message 47: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Terri wrote: "Haha. Well it takes a lot of work to keep a group active. :-)"

So it does and you do a wonderful job!!

message 48: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I've looked at comment amounts on other groups and we have a large amount of regular posters here in comparison. Good to know we're interesting. :)

message 49: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Well thankyou madam. :-)

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

I think all three of you do a fantastic job. Simona mentioned further up this thread that you always take the time to respond to all of us, and that is so true. That is one of the things that makes this group unique, I think. Even when I say stupid stuff, I never feel like I'm talking to myself. It makes us feel at home.
