I will be picking up my copy later today. :)

Hi guys! I've deleted a couple comments on this thread because they were promoting book piracy. Remember, if you are unable to purchase a book (it only costs about $6 for a paperback), you should be able to easily find this book at a local library.
Sharing a "PDF copy" of any book is the equivalent of stealing and takes money directly out of authors' pockets. I assure you, being an author doesn't generate a ton of income and every book sale matters.
And just to be clear: Borrowing a friend's paperback is different than emailing a PDF. Because there is still just one copy of the book. When you email it out, you're essentially making a copy of the book for someone else. Now there are two copies instead of one.

I don't think anyone's trying to be malicious. We just need to remember if authors don't sell books, they don't get contracts renewed. That means the series end. (Kelly Meding had that happen not too long ago. Lots of people offering PDFs of her books online. She had a large readership, but not enough people actually buying the book.)
So it's essential that readers buy their books (or encourage their library to buy the book) to keep the books coming and food on the authors' tables.

It depends on the contract. Most are for two books these days. Then sales determine if they will renew the contract to continue writing books. Some will be for one book, with an option for a second one depending on sales.

As a side note; that's one thing I have to say I love about this book club and the other one that I'm in, I often find myself reading books I really enjoy that I wouldn't have picked up at all some of the time

Jill, I just had to comment. I've always claimed that Acheron is one of my top 20 of all time books because Kenyon covers every emotion possible. She makes you feel pain for a character who has, literally, all the power in the world. But I've never been able to re-read it because of the above-mentioned emotion. I just think it's really interesting to have a venue such as this set up where you can see everyone else's opinions. Thanks for posting yours!
Give some of the later books a try. You may be glad that you did.

If you like this idea can I recommended Marjorie M. Liu's Tiger Eye. Excellently written beginning to the Dirk & Steele books and closer to this sort of genre and writing than Showalter's book
