There are rules in our society everywhere, but who says we must follow them?

One reason I find right off the bat is for organization in society, and a sense of right and wrong. Or in other words: Morals. But can't you build your morals with out rules? Don't you build them without them?

Do you mean would people still have good morals if we grew up without rules?

message 3: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
Aren't your morals based on how your rolemodles act? on what you think?

message 4: by Daisy (last edited Mar 01, 2009 05:46PM) (new)

Daisy I just want to point out that breaking rules is like half the fun of any rule-breaking task

message 5: by Ben (new)

Ben | 505 comments Mod
ya but not all rolemodles teach you good morals

message 6: by Daisy (new)

Daisy very very true

but it's a moral all the same. (I'm not against rules, just trying to make you all think really hard on why you do some of the things you do)

message 8: by Val (last edited Mar 01, 2009 09:59PM) (new)

Val (valz) I'm all for rules when they make living easier, but I think we should all question them when they are rotely followed. Blind obedience to rules is not the the best way to go. If no one will be hurt, and it's better to break a rule, then break it. Eg. I live near a place where they are putting in a round-about (a traffic circle). The road is closed except for local traffic. There is no danger in driving through the construction after hours as it is merely a dirt road. It doesn't make sense to drive all the way around by the detour, so I always travel that way anyway even though I am not local traffic. If I was inconveniencing anyone I wouldn't do this but I'm not and so I break the rule. One should always think for oneself and question authority. I raised my children that way -- and then they did and I paid for it -- lol.

message 9: by Daisy (new)

Daisy My mom almost always explains the rules to me why they are made. If she can't or doesn't explain them I usually break them unless I find a good reason myself. Also if the rules haven't been said aloud I will probably break them. EX: There is no rule that says that I can't go ding-dong-ditch my next door neighbor's house so I did...twice!

whats a fermata?

message 12: by aqua (new)

aqua | 70 comments it's a musical symbol meaning to hold a note for longer than its value.

and I think if we didn't have at least SOME rules, everything would be chaos.

Ben wrote: whats a fermata?

LOL, excactly what aqua said, in music you hold it out.

Yeah, rules are helpful, I agree with that. It's just think about it, what if back in the days of our revelution, are ancestors were demented freaks who had this law you had to kill someone before you could marry someone?
I mean it would be a crazy rule, but everyone would have to follow it....

message 14: by Ben (new)

Ben | 505 comments Mod
thanks for explaining that i probably learned what that was when i still played an instrument but that was 5-6 years ago

but if it was a rule like that no1 would follow it. we dont follow laws blindley.

message 15: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
You would be suprised how many people really do.

message 16: by Ben (new)

Ben | 505 comments Mod
good point but the majority of the population would see how rediculise a law like that would be n just not follow it or get the people who passed it out of office

message 17: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
that's not true though, because it would seem to them normal, and sane to follow since that's how they would be raised.

message 18: by aqua (new)

aqua | 70 comments that just reminded me of the racial segregation between blacks and whites. A lot of the people looked down on them because that was "the law" and that was how they were raised. But others saw the inequality of racial segregation. So i think ur both right.
