Nairabell | 76 comments Hi guys! I'm trying to track down books where the characters end up snowed in or snowbound somewhere. Some romance would be nice, but it isn't a necessity.

Thanks for your help :)

Trapped Don't think there's any romance, but they are most definitely snowbound.

Also, obviously, Snow Bound.

I'll keep thinking....

Shanna_redwind | 852 comments The Long Winter was one that I really enjoyed from the little house series. I'll keep thinking too, because I like this theme, and I know there must be more rattling around up there.

Shanna_redwind | 852 comments Another one that I just came up with is in the book Christmas Rogues. It's called "A Christmas Story" by Anita Mills. For a while it was my all time favourite romance.

Heather L (wordtrix) | 74 comments If you like mystery, a couple of the Aunt Dimity books qualify:
Aunt Dimity's Christmas
Aunt Dimity: Snowbound

For romance:
Holiday Hideout (just read this one--two of the 3 stories are snowbound ones)
Merry Christmas, Baby (has a snowbound story)

Melissa Matthews Try Nora Roberts Northern Lights. Not snowbound as such, but set in Alaska and I think there is a blizzard scene almost straight away. Definitely a romance with a mystery element too. Enjoy.

An even better Agatha Christie snowbound book is her
Murder on the Orient Express.

The only other one that comes to my mind is from The Baby-sitters Club: Snowbound (The Baby-Sitters Club Super Special, #7) by Ann M. Martin

message 30: by Serendi (new)

Serendi Linda Howard has a few.

In White Lies, the protags spend most of the second half alone in a cabin in winter. In Up Close and Dangerous, the protags are in a plane crash atop a snow covered mountain and need to survive and get to civilization. Haven't read Ice, seems to be bad guys chasing good guys in an ice storm.

The Apprentice: A Novel

Set in northern Japan in 1903. Apparently a bear has sex with a girl...

message 43: by Lee (new)

Sutter Lee | 15 comments The Ice Storm by Rick Moody. Set in early 1970s. One of my favorite books, read 10 to 15 years ago. Spot-on current review on GoodReads. I recently watched the movie based novel; good cast, but too disturbing and couldn't finish it.
Also dimly recall another book that included true story of group of young people seeking alternative lifestyle, ending up nearly starving and freezing in cabin in Alaska. Seems written by John McPhee or TC Boyle. I put it in my mental computer and will let you know if and when my mind gives me any leads, hints or the answer.

message 44: by Lee (new)

Sutter Lee | 15 comments You may want to look at Annie Prouxl's book about building her dream house, "Bird Clous,"; pretty sure she got snowbound at some point.
May also have some snowbound scenes in Prouxl's The Shipping News.
Pam Houston's insufferable self-centered book "More About Me" may also include some snowbound situations. Possibly some in her excellent short stories, Waltzing with Cats, or Cowboys are my weakness.
Oh, a very dark fiction by Michael Cunningham. I'll look it up and post in a couple of minutes, as I don't know how to do split screens to save this and google it.

message 47: by Lee (new)

Sutter Lee | 15 comments Still can't find the Michael Cunningham, and I feel so certain he was author, but nothing shows up in his books. Now I'm thinking it was a short story. The scenario was a few scientists in some sort of future military outpost, and all power and communication cut off, no heat, and a woman the last to go, so was her story. Unusual topic for Cunningham, but he does attempt various genres. I didn't like the book, altho well written.

message 48: by Amber (new)

Amber (survivoramber) | 1 comments Well I recently read a book called A Very Special Delivery.

A Very Special Delivery by Linda Goodnight

Though the characters are more iced in rather than snowed in and they are only iced in for like four chapters it is still a pretty good book in my opinion. There is also a baby in the story which I really enjoyed as I like babies. It definitely has some romance too, considering its about a man and woman who get stuck together, about six miles from civilization, in a farm house. The man is a single dad which is were the baby comes in, however, overcoming fears is holding both back from creating the relationship they both want. I really enjoyed the book and it sort of fits the description of books you were looking to read. Hopeful someone finds this interesting as I am new to this group and this is my first post here. Thanks for reading my answer! :D

Sutter Lee | 15 comments Well Amber, I thought your post was thoughtful, thorough and heartfelt. Being on GoodReads can make you feel like someone's out there, or it can make you feel alone, snubbed, ignored, dismissed, dissed. I also suggested two books on the subject, with no comments from the seeker. nor, from what I can ascertain, has Nairbell commented on any individual posting, other than an all inclusive thanks, written in December. Perhaps Nairbell became snowbound and never thawed out in the spring. Guess we will never find out why she was in search of books on this topic.
