The non fiction novel called "Black Eagles" by Jim Haskins. The text feature is showing how Bessie never giving up on her dream. The chapter I read was about a girl named Bessie Coleman who was the first black woman to fly a plane and do some stunts. Bessie was very good at flying planes, but she had some accidents with the planes before. Before, white people thought that black people can't live out there dreams because of who they are. Bessie thought that she can live out her dream no matter what happens. When Bessie was a little girl, her parents brought a plane from columbus. Bessie was dreaming of flying planes all day. When Bessie got older, she moved to columbus to learn how to fly planes. Bessie was so excited to fly a plane. Bessie was practicing everyday to get better and better at flying planes. When Bessie was 30 years old, she started to do stunts with planes. One day, two white kids were making fun Bessie being black. Instead of backing down, Bessie stood up for herself and told them what they needed to know. Sadly, Bessie got killed in a plane crash. People still know Bessie Coleman as the first black women to fly a plane.
The non fiction book, Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, is structured in a graphic novel format. The book features black and comic strip images that tell her story. I think the author wrote the book like this because she wanted to visually show what was going on in her country that sometimes words cannot express. She wanted to bring her story in life in an entertaining way. I am really enjoying reading this format because the pictures make her story more interesting than just using words.
In the non-fiction book, Do Fish Drink Water? By Bill McLain is a book about the questions that the author receives and he answers them with the research he made. In the book, it is structured in to Categories, subtitles, and subheadings. It also has a index, and the reason why the author puts it in the book is because it can help the readers find a specific topic faster, instead of going through the book page by page. In the part that I am reading right now, the author is answering a question about why there isn't a 100 seconds for a minute, or 100 minutes in an hour, instead of 60 seconds. It first starts with a few paragraphs of the answer, and then it gives us a subheading that gives me facts, and then another subheading telling us something that we might not know. All of this was included because it helped it to keep it organized so it will be easier for other readers to read it.
In the non-fiction book You Will Make Money in Your Sleep by Emily White is a book that organizes the events in chronological order in parts. There is not much chapters in this book so it is split in to parts. The parts are similar to sub-headings because they talk about a chunk of what is happening. This type of structure was chosen because these are the big parts of Dana Giachetto's life. Each part has a 3 year time and they talk about what happened within those three years. Each part has an important event happening.
The nonfiction book, Touching The Void by Joe Simpson, the text is structured in chapters as the author writes details about his terrifying experience and miraculous survival. I believe the author chose this structure because without chapter breaks, readers might quickly lose interest. This structure is also a good way to create suspense and keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Also, he used chapters to describe his separation of ideas and scenes. So far reading this nonfiction chapter book has kept me thinking what will happen next.
In Jackie MacMullan and Shaquille O' Neal's nonfiction book, "Shaq Uncut: My Story," it is about Shaquille's life growing up to be what he is today as a basketball star. Shaquille grew up in a very dangerous neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey. There were shooting and many bad things going on there. Growing up was always tough for Shaquille. First because of his size and second because of the violence. Shaquille was so big and fat that he was always teased and that's why Shaquille always tried to be cool by doing tons of violence. It bought him nowhere, but trouble. Still through the violence, he loved his size for one reason. He was overall good on basketball. He learned tons of people supported him and made him better as a player. That all lead him to be drafted and the NBA stuff began for him. All of the events were told in the book by Shaquille. It was written by him which makes it a biography. Depending on nonfiction books, there are many types and there are also many kinds of how the text is formatted. This nonfiction book is a biography and it is formatted in chapters. The chapters are separated by a part of Shaquille's life. For example, one chapter would be about Shaquille's life when he was a little boy and the next one would be on his life in high school. The whole story of Shaquille's life is told in a timeline starting from his birth. That is why the authors used chapters. The book wouldn't be using subtitles for example because the sections aren't separated by the type of facts about him. At the end of the book, there are a few pictures in like a timeline from when he was a kid to as of now present. That is put for a certain reason and that reason is because the readers need to understand more about Shaquille's life growing up. The pictures gave tons more details and information about his life. If I just read the book with no pictures, I would know about Shaquille's life, but have no clue who he is. The pictures in the back also had captions which gave each more information by telling what each picture is about. I think this nonfiction book was written to inform you about Shaquille O' Neal's life.
In the non-fiction book 101 Things You Didin't Know About Lincoln by Brian Thoronto, Brain structers the text in chapters. The reason why he did this was be ther wher a lot of things that where to be said about lincoln so he seperated the in to groups then brokee the down some more. For example he has 6 parts of the book but in those six parts are things that ether happened during that time of was apart of it in some way.
In the book “ SHIP WRECK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WORLD” By Jennifer Armstrong the caption by the name of Shakelton set out of a journey o travel un-traveld waters in the untouched waters of the aortic. The story’s tells about the crews struggle to survive the cold harsh and unforgiving enviorment known as the Aortic, and the sacerfises that where made in order to stay alive. My book is strurctured into chapters because evey chapter tells us about a small opsicle the crew had to over come in order to survive the harsh and terrible condition in which they where headed right into. In addition they have chapters in my book that that people can learn about different aspects of what was going on throught the book.
In the non-fiction book "Rising Voices" by Arlene Hirschfelder and Beverly R. Singer the text is kind of structured like a diary because it is a bunch of kids writings, and all of these poems are about a moment in these native american childrens lives. I think the author chose this structure to make it easier for the reader to read and this structure to me is one of my favorite structures. Each poem is written by a different kid and it is about different things, and that is another reason I like this structure so much.
In the non-fiction book Black Boy By Richard Wright the text is structure by chapters I think it's structure this way because it's like a audiobiography and it shows the events in his life and growing up day by day. I think the author choose to write this way to show his life and the struggle he went through growing up in his days and he wanted to tell people what is was like back then for black people.
In the nonfiction autobiography book "Persepolis" written by Marjane Satrapi, this book is written in the structure of a graphic novel about he childhood. A little girl named Marji is living in a world where it is always a fight for freedom, their right king, or just at war. She lives in a place where you were forced to follow their rules, otherwise you would be beaten,or killed. and at moments, she witnesses some of the violence yet she still wants to be a part of it.This story is not strutted by certain chapters. The writer used this structure of writing to show the detail of specific moments in her life.
In the non fiction book "The dream and the struggle,separate but not equal" written by Jim Haskins ,this book is written in the structure of an novel about Black Education in America in the early 1957's. Six black/African American students were taken into a NAACP also known as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. owned by whites,treated like dirt,and would call every single colored person an inappropriate name and tell them to go back where they came from. They all lived in a place where if you ever mistreat the whites in any such way that will be hold against your will and you will either 1. Go to jail or 2. Get beating. all of this colored stuff causes bad things and by that I mean there education. :-[ the teachers where mostly white and if the student has a question the teacher would not answer them and would just give them the wrong things they not supposed to know. Black education was good back in the days? Haha I think not.!
In the non-fiction book Ophelia Speaks by Sara Shandler, this book is written in the structure of different stories of each teenager in the book. This book is structured this way because it helped not only show one persons story but, many others too. There are many different titles from each story. Some titles somehow give away what the story is going to about or what the person is going through in their story. For example, ''pregnancy'', that would be an example of a title and many other stories from different teenage girls having to do with that topic, and what kind of struggles they've had in this situation specifically. One topic that stood out the most in the book was ''Death in the family''. This topic was mostly about how many teenage girls from each family show how was it like for them to live without a family member or how was it like to go about the situation and what kind of damage it did in their lives. I think the author chose this as one of the topics because it was the one of the most common topic's and it relates to Ophelia's story. It also had more of a connection to Ophelia's story than others did in the book.

The book is grouped into sections based on what time the situation occurred. I think that it is structured this way because many people like to see what/how it changed through out the time. This is important because people want to see how the African Americans started out and how it changed over time and how it ended. This is a good way to structure a non-fiction book, but it will not work as efficiently for a fiction book.

The non-fiction book Asphalt Angels by Ineke Holtwijk is grouped by and written in a diary or a story telling form such as chapters. I think they structure this non-fiction book in chapters so the readers will enjoy the story in different types of ways to read the non-fiction book. this is a book to show how most brazilian kids in the streets or doing drugs and murdering people for money
In the non-fiction book The Story Of Blima by Shirley Russak Wachtel the text is structured like most books, in chapters. I think the author structured it like this because it's a non fiction story with information from before the big event happened and during the event. And putting it in chapters is better than a diary because the protagonist explains all the background information so the reader can understand whats going on.
In the story '' Touching The Void'' By Joe Simpson the narrator made the text structure by chapters because its about the story of two friends that saved each others life. The Narrator is Joe is the one who wrote the story in his own prospective because he is the won who was in it. I like the text structure like this because its easier and more comprehendible.
