Six Days of the Condor
question
How Prophetic Has This Book Been?

I just watched Three Days of the Condor again, for the first time in a couple of decades, and it really struck home how prophetic the book as been. It said we would invade the Middle East for the oil and we did. Great acting. Great script. Great story.

Cool. I thought I was the only one who spotted this. You're totally correct this book really called the turn, way ahead of its time. Disturbing. Keen eye. More than just espionage going on in this novel; bit of social analysis as well.
This book was a very interesting read, a long time ago. It's amazing how often a novelist will all but predict actions of the future. It was interesting thinking out of the box to have people read books to get the input of thousands of writers without having to hire a lot of people.
I read this book when it first came out. It is one of the best thrillers of all time. Rod Level, M.D.
Too true. It reflected the political realities of its time, and has been validated even more with every headline since.
If I remember correctly, 6 Days of the Condor was published in 1974. Did we not have an oil embargo in 1972 with Nixon? If it is true, what is the prophetic element? It was happening then. Nixon was going to place us on a non-dependency of energy like every president has claimed since.
If you think this is prophetic (which it is) I think you'd love to read the "Captains and the Kings" by Taylor Caldwell. Even though it's set in a different era, it really speaks to what could be the cause of all this today (big oil, big banks, inequality, politics, wars) and why they happen. Three days of the Condor was a really good book but it just touches the surface.
Simply follow CIA activities throughout the middle 1960's onward, and someone who was pushing the books, reports and overt news, could piece this together. Great author, but I suggest a great news asset, stolen from history. http://bit.ly/2pMOdvr
