So what's the pain drug of choice?
Vicodin?
Tylenol with codeine?
Or my new (least) favorite, just go ahead and pass out?

I've never had to take pain meds.
I was on Cipro a few months back, and while keeping me safe from the dreaded anthrax, it made me so dizzy that walking was difficult.

I take it this question was prompted by your recent foot surgery?

Yeah. I passed on Vicodin as it makes me dizzy and throw up (which I did anyway, but the drug is much worse).

Codeine mostly just made me sleep.

Which is worth a lot.

Just passing out was my option when they took the stitches out yesterday :p

Jeb Harrison (jebh) | 36 comments I'm surprised your doc didn't give some alternative to hydrocodone (Vicodin) that wouldn't make u nauseous. I'm I'm pain management for chronic neuropathy (nerve pain) in my feet as a result of back surgery and have sampled many meds. But chronic nerve pain is different than post surgical pain Vicodin worked fine after shoulder surgery - if the pain is screwing up your life ask for an alternative.

It was temporary pain, Jeb. In fact, sleeping was a good enough option.

Passing out when they took out the stitches yesterday was just . . . Typical. :p

Oh, and it was for bunion surgery, which now just makes me grumpy because I want to go run and ride (we are having beautiful weather, as we often do in January) and I can't.

Mathew Smith | 686 comments Strange enough, I've been beefing up on my pain management theories - my wife just had a baby.
I was intrigued by the 'orgasmic' birth method. Where one has *cough* orgasms *cough* as a method of pain management...sounds a bit cooky to me, but, if you are interested there is a video or two on youtube . Not sure how helpful it would be on chronic pain situations though.

Hmm. From what I remember of childbirth, I don't think I would have been in the mood.

OTOH, instead of using a headache as an excuse, I've always noticed that I don't have a headache during orgasm. Guess that's the same idea.

How's your foot, Rebecca? Are you able to participate in any activities...other than the one mentioned in the previous two posts, anyway?

LOL,Melki! Actually I was afraid to try that for a couple of weeks--the thought of accidentally bumping the foot was terrifying!

I can walk some, which at least allows me to get outside. And I have started back at the gym, lifting (which I hate) and just this weekend, swimming, which is actual aerobic exercise and may keep me from going totally crazy! I can't wait to be able to ride my bike again!

Hmmm...you must do things differently than I. I've never once worried about bumping my foot during, well, you know.

Anyway...glad you're up and around again.

Just general paranoia. You know, might get it squished when rolling over....

message 13: by Mathew (new)

Mathew Smith | 686 comments Melki, perhaps you need to consider doing things differently so your foot does get 'bumped'...

funny, how a debate on pain medication has made it this far off topic.

Is it possible to turn any topic raised to a discussion of sex?

I can turn any topic into a discussion about food.

While we're on the subject...which wine goes best with Vicodin - red or white?

Bookworm - I thought you were supposed to just lie there and think of England.

Well, for me the question is which wine I'd rather puke up :p

Hmmm...I smell a new topic - which is the best puking wine, red or white?

Same. I like percocet though, but I haven't taken it in years.

About the only thing I ever tried for pain that really made me feel good was pot. And that made me too high to do anything, so not exactly helpful for everyday issues.

message 22: by Mathew (new)

Mathew Smith | 686 comments For pain, I usually visualize the pain, imagine it being a lump of lard, then I feel the heat of my body melting it, and envision it glooping down to my heels and out onto the carpet...or a mix of whatever I can fine (usually generic brand iboprofen and Tylenol Super Extra Strength)
