It's a long three-day weekend for many of us here in the States. I hope everyone has plans for some relaxation and time with friends and family and that a fantastic weekend awaits you.

This Friday's questions: Can you read in any environment (on an airplane, in a coffee shop, at your child's little league game, etc.) or can you only read in one or two different places? Do you have a daily reading habit, such as reading at the same time for the same amount of time everyday?

I spend a lot of my time reading for work, and I've come to discover that I really only like to read while in bed. I read at all times of the day and night, but I do try to spend at least 30 minutes each night reading for fun/leisure before going to sleep.

What about you? Can you read anywhere or do you have one special reading spot? Do you have a daily reading habit?

Kelani | 205 comments I read anywhere and everywhere! I always carry a book with me in case I have to wait or pass time. This has been helpful on more than one occasion, like when I had to get my tire fixed.
I am like you, I try to read for 20-30 minutes a night before bed. It helps me relax and wind down.
I read a lot at my second job. Especially Sundays because I work 15 hours!
I prefer to be laying on the couch or in a cushion-y chair!

Jim | 289 comments I read all sorts of places. I've gotten to the point where I usually listen to one book in my car while driving to work (30 minutes one way). I listen to a separate book in my office while I work. Then I have a book at home that I'll read. frequently I'll take my daughters to play areas (the mall, McDonalds, the park) and read a book while they play (except when they need someone to push the swings :) ) I generally read at night before bed for anywhere between 20 minutes to a couple hours. This largely depends on my wife and if she is home that evening and her mode. If she is home, she is sometimes tired in the evening and will head to bed early to read/relax before going to sleep. I will usually go read with her to spend time with her rather than sitting downstairs watching tv. I generally don't read much during the day because my kids will be too much of a distraction, I'll wait till they go to bed.

If I know I'm going somewhere that I will be waiting (car's oil change, daughter's dentist appt), I'll take a book with me.

Joseph Marsh | 14 comments Used to be able to read anywhere at anytime, no matter how disruptive the environment. I could even read while someone was talking to be while still paying attention to what they said.

Now, I suppose I still can read in a disruptive environment but my reading speed slows significantly the more disruptive it is, and I can't read at all while some on is talking to me.

To be fair I've only gotten back into reading in the past 5 month or so, so maybe I'll b e able to reach that point again

Jacque (bookgirltoo) | 104 comments I can and do read anywhere, except in bed. I can never get comfortable sitting up in a bed. I don't know how people do it. Besides, why would I want to when I have a super comfy couch in my living room? I'm happy there in my jammies and a cup of tea. I only use my bed for two things, sex and sleep.

Alison G. (agriff22) | 543 comments I always read in bed or while on the couch. I have been trying to make it a habit to read at least a half hour before I go to bed. Sometimes, if it is a good book and I cant stop reading, I will read more. Also, if I want to read during the day I take a short (or try to) nap before I read, that way i don't fall asleep

message 7: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) I can read anywhere and anytime. I love to sit in my favorite coffee shop in the winter. When it's nice I love to be outside on a long outside lawn chair. Don't really have ritual since some days am to tired to read in bed.

I mostly actually read in the bath.

Most of my challenge books are audio-books these days, which are consumed in the car, at the gym or while cleaning.

VWrulesChick | 351 comments I prefer my bed or the couch, but love the blanket on the beach or lawnchair when vacationing

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) Like Faye, I also do a lot of bath reading. Part of my injury healing is having to spend a lot of time submerged in hot baths post-therapy and it helps pass the time to get lost in a book.

Most of the time, I have to have it quiet to get any reading done. I'm too easily distracted.

Mimi V (naomi_v) | 639 comments i can read anywhere, anytime. i read while i'm drying my hair in the morning; i read while i commute (no, i'm not driving!); i read at lunch; i read on the treadmill at the gym; i read when i get home; i read while i'm watching TV/movies; i read until i go to sleep. sometimes i get so engrossed, i miss my stop on the way to work (never on the way home, tho.)

i also listen to audiobooks while i'm walking.

message 12: by Rachael (new)

Rachael (rachaelc94) I can read almost anywhere. I read a lot during the school day and at home. I prefer to be reading in the comfort of my home on the couch, but I can read in noisy places if needed.

If we are on vacation I can read in the airport, but not really the airplane because I get headaches with reading and motion. I can't read in cars either. When we are at hotels I prefer to read in bed with the book next to me on the nightstand when I'm done.

message 13: by Linda (new)

Linda (lndoyle) | 313 comments I would love to read in bed at night, but as soon as I recline, I fall asleep, so upright is the only way. But other than that, anytime, anywhere. Out and about: on my iPad; at home: real books.

message 14: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) I read anytime, any place. I take my Kindle with me everywhere. If I have even 2 minutes to read, I do it. I read when I shouldn't: during finals, at work, when I should be sleeping. I can't read if the TV is on, it's too much of a distraction. I can't remember the last time I watched TV.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ I read anywhere and everywhere I go. I always have a book in the car or my nook in my bag. I can even watch TV as I read a book. Most of the time when I set out to go to sleep I end up reading. I tell myself that I will only read for 30 minutes but end up reading more.
