This makes me think of something an older cousin of mine said. He was on Iwo Jima during the battle--underwater demolition. He said, "When the word passed down that we had raised the flag on Suribachi, there was no way they were going to keep us off that island."

Good idea to have a list of books you want to read in 2013. The books I want to read sooner then later always get lost in my tbr list.

The thing that is amazing about Kethley and many others is that having been on nearly every island in the Pacific where there was a battle, clearing obstacles in the water, riding in a small boat, taking fire, he went home after the war, delivered milk while in college, became an ag teacher, raised two sons, and finally became a school principle. Lived to be almost 90. They didn't have SCUBA. Just a pack of explosives.

I still think he'd make a great character in a story from the 1950s era chasing down all of these wicked and nasty phenomon (in between WWII and delivering milk.)

One of the original Frogmen...(think James Garner in "Frogman" just shorter and... more gentlmanly.)

I have been trying to stay true to my posted book list but I have so many books in my TBR that I tend to stray.

So far two books down. Overall I have read 4 of the 15 I set as my 2013 goal, number 5 is at the halway point.
