Impulse
question
should Impulse by ellen hopkins be developed into a movie?

Just wondering if turning impulse into a movie would be a good idea or should it just be left a book? also if it were to be turned into a movie who would be your ideal cast?

I think, personally, it should be left a book. I can't see anyone playing the roles of the three narrators of the book. The book is just too deep and personal that I fear if it were to become a movie, they would get everything wrong. No one can try to mimic the pain the three felt, especially reenacting Conner's suicide.
Personally, I will be asking permission from Hopkins herself to see if I may be allowed to attempt making a movie out of this, what I do not know for sure yet is whether it should be done with actors/actresses, or should I make it animated. I see the benefits in both.
I am absolutely in LOVE with this novel, I have read this about 5 times within a span of 2 weeks... I know I'm not the fastest reader, but I do know a lot of the small details.
Regarding what Caroline stated, she's right. The way I envisioned Connor, Tony, and Vanessa may be different from how anyone else envisioned them.
However, I will try my best to stick with the details Hopkins wrote for us. She has powerful imagery, and that should give us a semi-solid view of the character and settings.
Again, until this is approved by Hopkins herself, nothing is promised. But I do hope she will grant me permission to recreate such a story into a film! :)
I may also attempt Perfect, the companion novel, but let's take it one step at a time... lol!

If they're gonna make a movie out of anything it'll be Crank. I think this would make a great movie though, I'd just want them to stay true to the book.
Although I absolutely love the novel, I can't picture Impulse as a movie at all. I think the way Ellen Hopkins wrote this book in the form of free verse adds to the story. If Impulse were made into a movie, I would be worried that they would leave out the character's thoughts and feelings that are so skillfully described in the book. Plus, I think it would be impossible to reenact Conner's suicide so that it gives the reader the same heart wrenching, shocked feeling Ellen gave us in the book.
I think a anime would be more fit for this movie if it ever turn into a movie, I don't think it be that good if real people play in the movie and have a narrator saying all the characters thoughts and feelings that be a awesome movie that I would watch for sure.
The character's lives are built up through memories, so probably not. It just wouldn't work. I also can't see them being able to take the meaning and (slightly disturbing) beauty of this book and successfully putting it in a movie. Free-verse novel form is the best way to go for this book.
I honestly think this book, along with other Hopkins novels, should be left alone. I don't know if it's just me, but there's something really personal in this novel that I feel would be mocked and misunderstood if it were made into a movie. A lot of people don't understand all of the struggles that the characters face in this book. All of it is kind of 'taboo' in a sense. Being able to pick up a book and read about someone going through a lot of the issues myself, and my friends struggle with provides some sort of closure, or understanding to me.. Just leave it as a novel.
I think all of the books by this author should be left as a novel. They were all too emotionally powerful to be properly adapted into a movie. Also, there were parts that wouldn't be able to be conveyed on screen, especially not for the same audience that read the book (teens/younger teens).
