Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments For those that do know and those that do not I am published. This topic is about my art.

I really do not write for an audience in mind. I write because I have a story to tell. I have these little personalities screaming at me to write what they are saying.

I have multiple projects in the works at the moment. Some fantasy, some mystery and a few YA tossed in the mix. I do gather inspiration from those online and in real life. (Sorry T, Falls, Nate and Richard but you guys are in my books in some way shape of form.)

Oh my goodness, I've always dreamed of being in someone's book somehow!

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments My first published work is Birth of the Fire Child. It is hard to put a label on it. Some call it fantasy some romance.

Rough gist of it is two girls are hired to find a missing man. During their search they encounter hints of their past.

I wrote this in 2004 (I think) and put it away for years. ~~IDK damn that's going to bother me. When did I write this? (Trying to go through the shelves of my memory warehouse) Yes, it was 2004. I just had my daughter and son just started preschool. ~~

Anyway, during the time it was put up. I didn't think about it. Those little bastards in my head weren't yelling at me. So it for all intense purposes was put on the shelve.

In 2011 when our house was finished with the renovations and we were moving our stuff in. I found it on an old CD. I read it and was just disgusted on the errors and the plot holes, but I still liked the characters. I tried to edit and change a bit on my own. (For those that have done this you know the frustration this brings.) I finally just said forget it and gave it to a few friends and my parents to look it over. I told them go through it with a red pen. Change the blatant spelling and grammar errors. Leave notes on the parts that you wish were ‘fluffed’ up more.

When I got the copies back, I changed the master document and sent it off to an editor. Within a few months of going back and forth, I eventually had it published early last year.

*Note: I am still not happy with the end result of this book. I feel like it needs more. I guess that's why it has become a series.

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments My second published book Awakening Beneath the Blood Moons, is a continuation of Fire Child. It picks up roughly 5-6 months after that book ends. This one is IMO a romance. The two main characters would not let me write it any other way.

I wrote this literally, after I had found Fire Child and sent it off to the editor. It took three weeks to complete a rough draft. The amount of research alone took a week. Yes, I do research. The world that I created is based on three cultures and their mythology. Celtic for my winged Spritlings, Nordic for my Lycaneons and very very loosely based Middle Eastern culture for my Djinn.

If I wanted to, I could write a history book for my world of Lumenessa due to the amount of research and back-stories.

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments The books that are currently driving me batty.

One, I have named Hunted (I know that will eventually change) is about a young girl who is forced to live with her Grandparents. Her mother drops her off and leaves. During her stay, she finds out that her grandparents are not who they claim to be. *Note this has been placed on the back burner for now. It also has a few characters based off Richard, Lynx and Falls in it.

Another in the works is my serial killer novel. Set in a small town, it has a killer who preys on those breaking the 10 commandments. A local sheriff finds the pattern but cannot find the suspect. (Currently doing a butt load of research into police procedure and religious nuts.)

I also have the third book in my Lumenessa Saga plotted out. I have yet to start writing on it.

The one that has captured my attention and am working on now is a cheesy YA. *This one has characters very loosely based on Nate, Brandon and Taylor.

Taylor Woah. Is my character a wheelchair-bound, drooling invalid?

message 7: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Taylor [formerly Timothy] wrote: "Woah. Is my character a wheelchair-bound, drooling invalid?"

LOL. No. He is the class president who thinks he knows more than the teachers. (Most of the time he does.)

message 8: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Class president? You give him way more popularity than I'd ever have. XD

Waterfall *Daughter of Northridge Earthquake* (falls) | 1395 comments Mod
I wanna hear about this Falls character!

message 10: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Waterfall *Daughter of Northridge Earthquake* wrote: "I wanna hear about this Falls character!"

The character based on Falls (who I named Sadie)is an average everyday girl who befriends the main character, Emily. Sadie helps Em adjust to her new environment and helps her uncover the truth about her grandparents and why she was sent to live with them.

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Taylor [formerly Timothy] wrote: "Class president? You give him way more popularity than I'd ever have. XD"

I never said he was popular. XD Just a know it all.

message 12: by Taylor (new)

Taylor How would he be class president, then? That's chosen by popular vote.

message 13: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments I should say not the good popular. XD. You'll read it in a few weeks.

message 14: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Heh...I'm excited. :D

message 15: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Alright update on the YA. The T based character did not work with what my little friends were telling me. So he has been pushed out for now. Although he does make a small appearance.

message 16: by Taylor (new)

Taylor ^^^Story of my life. XD

message 17: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Taylor [formerly Timothy] wrote: "^^^Story of my life. XD"

I swear T these characters are not doing anything I tell them. I have outlined the book 6 times. And they still go off on their own direction. You character Mark is just kind of sitting in the shadows for now. (I am almost 3/4 done.) So he might jump out toward the end.

message 18: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Oh, I'm not complaining. This is just a very realistic story is all. :F

message 19: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments :P Well, I'm complaining. Damn kids in my head aren't listening. ARGH. It's like real life. LOL

The worst is when one of your main characters informs you that you're going to kill them off. And then that perfect happy ending you've made for them? Yep. Good luck trying to write it when they've decided they're going to die.

Yes that drives me insane! One reason why I have not written anymore on my Lumenessa Books. I'm not going to until they start behaving.

message 22: by Nate (new)

Nate Wait, there's a character based on me? ...scary. Actually that's kinda cool. I'm honoured Am I the antagonist? I hope so. OH Wait can I be the serial killer? I could live vicariously (spl?) through him.

message 23: by Nate (new)

Nate Its a pain in the arse when the characters take over but it sometimes makes my job easier. They dictate the tale some times better than I could.

LOL. It's loosely based. Like a few mischievous quirks.

message 25: by Nate (new)

Nate oh..well damn I was all flattered and now I'm all bummed. Way to kill it Djinn.
JKn of course.

message 26: by Nate (new)

Nate ...any update on the preview of this novel?

message 27: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments I am still writing it. XD
I'm about a 2/3 of the way through.

message 28: by Nate (new)

Nate 2/3's is that closer to the beginning or the end? JK

gtk btw whatever happen to the pic you were working on?

sorry I'm slightly hyper and in a weird mood tonight

message 29: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Close to the end. XD

I'm still working on it. I tend to be a bit ADD. It will get finished soon I hope. maybe. I dunno. eventually? yeah I'll go with eventually.

message 30: by Nate (new)

Nate I can relate. Yay ADHD it allows for many started and unfinished projects. We accomplish more b4 noon than most do all day... or half accomplish.

message 31: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments YA done!

Now have to go through edit, rewrite, edit again, another rewrite and then it'll be out of my hands. XD

message 32: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Here is a link to a snippet of the first few pages.

message 33: by Nate (new)

Nate awesome, can't wait to check it out.

message 34: by Nate (new)

Nate do you plan on posting more?

message 35: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments I can.

message 36: by Nate (new)

Nate you should. but only if you feel like sharing

message 37: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments K. I'll see if I can't post the first chapter. Depends on how large it is.

message 38: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments So instead of just posting a new one I went in and edited the snippet. It's not the whole chapter but it is enough I think to give someone a taste of the flow of the book. I'm not sure my mind is all frazzled today.

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments lol

message 41: by Nate (new)

Nate twas good. Its got a nice flow to it. Do the pov change throughout the story? That's got to be hard to write, but interesting.

message 42: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Cool thanks.

Yes the pov changes off and on during the entire story. It was difficult. Mainly just to get into a "male" mindset. SMH You boys are crazy. lol

message 43: by Nate (new)

Nate smh all girls say that. I think we're straight forward, you girls are the confusing ones.

message 44: by Nate (new)

Nate & I'll have to try that some time, switching pov's, that is.

message 45: by Ginny (new)

Ginny Atkinson (djinn) | 348 comments Nate wrote: "smh all girls say that. I think we're straight forward, you girls are the confusing ones."
