This is for discussion of Chapters 1 - 3 (inclusive) of the Martian so feel free to say how you're finding it and what you like/dislike but without posting any spoilers for later parts of the book.

How was the opening scene?
Are you intrigued?
How is the set up so far?
Do you like the characters?

Michael (michaeldixon) | 60 comments Ah, I hadn't thought about the supplies! Also, can I just say that I'm really worried about Matt Damon - I mean Mark.

message 3: by TS (new) - rated it 5 stars

TS Chan (tschan) | 159 comments I love his sense of humour despite the dire situation.

And what a great science and maths lesson in survival.

The bookish_magpie So far, so hilarious! Totally unexpected, especially as mentioned - his dire situation! One of my many favourite lines so far: "Hell yeah I'm a botanist!" :-D

Hey guys, so I have been a little late picking this one up to join you all and discuss it but judging by the amount of you who have given it 5*s I am very happy to dive in.

I am also enjoying the tone of voice and it feels very easy to read and connect with Mark. The story so far hasn't completely captivated me but Mark has because of his sarcastic, dry sense of humour and the way that he's dealing with a very tough situation. He seems resourceful and innovative and I am looking forward to reading more :)
