End of chapter 1 (view spoiler)[ it's an okay start just setting the scene realy. I am looking forward to hearing about Tristan more than Celcile. That was the draw of the book for me, the trolls. It's just the start though so plenty of time for that. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[ I just don't get why Cécile would think that a witch MUST live in a big city?? Or mingle with aristocrates? Or not age a day?? I mean her search is as subtle as an elephant strolling by. And does she realize that she doesn't need to find the witch, she actually needs to kill her??? I mean that's how they know she's still alive: the curse is still in place. I bet that after centuries of not breaking the curse, the witch won't just say: "Oh my, you've found me! Of course, I will break the curse now." And her angst? Yuck. She used to be her own woman, not a pathetic love puppy. (hide spoiler)]

Hehe I loved your little rant, it's so true though. Especially when she is being really selfish, so is going to put everyone in danger especially people in her village since they are quite near.

YES! Selfish indeed! The thing is if she becomes queen, she could actually change the conditions for the half-bloods. If she frees them though? I bet after centuries of mistreating half-bloods, those "trolls" won't be high on fresh air and killing humans and decide to treat them right suddenly. I think the plot has become quite messy.

Chapter 2 (view spoiler)[ I took a while to remember who Chris was, he obviously not helping his father anymore. I hope she doesn't trust the King but I think she will. Poor Tristan and he is still trying to look out for her. It's not quite as captivating as the first book. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2: (view spoiler)[ I find her so stupid and silly, right now! Tristan gave up his life (and several others') so she could escape and she goes back?? Besides, the king shouldn't be trusted, period. He didn't say: "I won't harm humans" but "I would rather not." These are two very different things. (hide spoiler)]

Yes very true. It's no where near as polished ad the first book, all feels a little rushed and sloppy.

I read some reviews and most say the second part is better than the first... I hope that's true.

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[ She tortured Chris'... Just like that?! Shit! Imagine Thibault hadn't been there to say: "huh, you're breaking his mind. Chill, Cécile. Anyway, I thought she needed spells and ingredients to do magic? I don't see why she needs the grimoire after all if she can pull things like that. (hide spoiler)]

I never thought of that, maybe I should have reread the first book again, I can remember all the main points but not the little ones, oh well. I've started now.

But yeah, I agree with you: (view spoiler)[her decision very stupid, silly and selfish. She's basically telling Tristan: But you are wrong not to trust your kind! HOW CAN SHE TELL ME THAT WHEN HE'S BEEN TORTURED BY THEM?!?! IS SHE BLIND OR SOMETHING!?! You know... I keep comparing this to the Demon King trilogy by Chima: The queen did what was right for her people. She turned away from love to save her people. Tristan did the same, by telling her away. Why can't she get some guts or some wits off a real witch and just choose humanity over love??? (hide spoiler)]

I haven't read that series. I read the firstbook when it was first out, a year ago I think. Yes I agree it must be hard but there is a reason why some people choose for the greater good, one person being hurt is better than thousands.

(view spoiler)[Cécile figured she was a witch when she read that one of the "signs" is the ability to persuade anyone to do or reveal anything. Her mom just used that power against her. In the narration, Cécile didn't want to tell her and then she just spilled it out. So mommy is a witch. Well, it's just a guess here. I do think it's either mommy or her grandmother who's THE WITCH, though. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 10: (view spoiler)[ i hate how friendship between a boy and a girl is portrayed: one must be in love with the other. Like no. Anaïs and Tristan and now Chris and Cécile... One is always using the other and that just isn't friendship. Besides, Chris' personality except for his being in love with Cécile is non-existent.

Not only is the friendship between Chris and Cécile making me uneasy, but Sabine little magic attempt? Huh... Not a fan, at all. It's boring that everyone is telling her the same speech over and over, yet they stick by her. If they find her so infuriating, why don't they leave her be??? Or imprison her? For God's sakes, the woman wants to unleash murderous creatures onto the world! Why do they let her walk around and help her on her quest seriously? Oh and why is everyone so tolerating of Cécile being a witch if the worldbuilding suggests witches are burned?

Lastly, French 101: La Voisine. The author should have gotten a French editor. (hide spoiler)]

Guessing your not enjoying this very much. It isn't as nearly as good as the first book but I am hoping it improves.

I liked the first one better too, despite the fact that I had some issues with it. Lol It's my French blood that demands rants. And perfect French use. :P I also hope it will improve. I will try to read the next chapter tonight. I don't think I will have time for more than that considering how long it is (92 pages on my mini Kobo).

That's a long chapter, I am fairly busy over the next week so will try and 3-5 chapters a day, not very much I know sorry but every little helps as they say.

You might be right about Fred, I just want the story to actually progress, all feels a little to explainy rather than actiony so far.

Chapter 13:(view spoiler)[I like that we got to see a new angle to Marc and Tristan's relationship. However... The bit about Cécile being so "empathetic" and blablabla made me scoff. She's impulsive and childish and overly emotional. On top of that, she's too stupid to live. Really don't see how she has such "a big heart". (hide spoiler)]
