I'm listening to a book I've read...I don't know how many times before. Go Ask Alice is a timeless tale and, sadly, every bit as relevant now as it was when it first came out.

The reader of the audiobook (Beatrice Sparks) LIVES the story. And she sounds like someone else I've heard Just can't remember who. Anyway, here is the link for anyone who wants to listen. https://youtu.be/Z1MnA71gnZE

Lisa Thanks, I think its still very relevant today too. A lot of reviews on her though think it is fake and they just don't believe that such things happened or could happen.. I think they must lead very sheltered lives. lucky them ?

Hi Lisa: I'm almost jealous of the people who don't think that's possible. All they have to do is hang out at a mall. With drug use being more prevalent now than even in the 70's, the people who don't believe the story is real are either exceptionally blessed NOT to have had drugs affect his or her family, or else these people are very naive.

Angela If you like Go Ask Alice, you might also want to read Crank by Ellen Hopkins. Both of them left me with the same feeling at the end.... probably 30 years apart. I read Alice when I was a teen and I credit it for scaring the urge to try drugs right out of me!

Hi Angela! Thanks for the recommend. I'm pretty much in the same boat. I don't think I was ever attracted by the whole drug scene in high school but that book (Go Ask Alice) confirmed my views. I steered clear.

Carrie I just finished the book. I gave it 2 stars. It's very dated, has a real 70 s vibe to it with the lingo. Yes, I think it's fake. I do not believe it was a true diary from a 14 yr old. I'm not saying I don't believe 14 yr olds use drugs. I know they do. If this book helps/scares kids from using drugs, then I'm glad. I just don't think it's a non fiction book.

Kelly Martin It'been too long sense I've read this book. I remember thinking that it was very good book, but I was about 14 when I read it!

why?

Camilo Gaviria I think the complete opposite: it is a book of our own time. The story of betrayal and revenge of Medea is timeless. The story of impossible love of Romeo and Juliet is timeless. Even the story of justice and revival of Les Miserables is timeless. But Go Ask Alice is a story of our time. It is a story of youth that was given a limited freedom in which things you can do you really can't, and in which you have to behave a certain way even if later on that way is unacceptable.
