Sometimes you just get tired of reading certain themes. What have you reached your saturation point with?

Erotica. Done. Now I'm even skipping the sex scenes in regular romance since I'm so burned out.

Oh, did you mean "themes" like "boy next door", etc.? If so, just forget I posted that... ;)

I don't know if this counts a theme, but I'm done with love triangles. I've been reading quite a bit of ya lately and I just don't understand it.

I'm also tired of men with a lot of money who enjoy some form of bdsm. I don't read a lot of erotica but it seems like this theme is all over the place.

Not certain if this is the right place to put this. I am utterly burnt out on Regencies, and novels set in the Tudor period. Every time I go into the shops, it's all I see any more. Sigh.

You mean the "books" with three to five parts that really could have been to combined in a single book? I hate those!!

So funny. I turned to cozy mysteries and YA/NA PNR because I'm burnt out of contemporary/BDSM/erotica, although at times I will read a couple a month if they're rated well.

NA. I can't take one more early 20's couple. Doesn't anyone in their 30's or 40's fall in love anymore?

I'm over how all the men have to have enormous.......um... ...parts, how statistically unlikely is that? Big roll of the eyes on that one.

I think that is sometimes why I like Kristen Ashleys books a bit. Those characters are older.
As someone who is in her thirties I totally agree.
Characters in there 30's and 40's are needed!

I'm not really a fan of NA either. I enjoyed the train wreck that is , but in general not a fan of the genre

It also annoys me that all these 20 something year old heroines are always virgins. Yeah right. That's as big an eye roll as the always well endowed male is.

I find myself reading a lot more romantic suspense than contemp romance now as the heroines are usually older.

Agree with Alisa on reading romantic suspense over NA. I am over reading about 20 somethings. I don't even click on the free ones.

The Blood and Roses series by Callie Heart is on sale for .99 I think there are five short books, totally worth the read.

Billionaires. I am so over billionaires. I think there are more billionaire books released in a single day than are actually on the planet.

I'm burned out on euphemisms. Call the parts what they are, the way Sandra Brown does. She can make a love scene burn through the page, simply by building suspense before the big moment.

LOL. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm kind of over it too. I used to skip to "the good parts," now I'm getting to be just the opposite. Give me a long, suspenseful build-up and believable chemistry, and then I will probably enjoy the details of who puts what, where. But a story that's just one position after another leaves me bored.

I was over the marketing whipped up fad of wealth porn even before I read any of it. Burned out to a cinder 40 pages into the first (and very last) one I attempted to read. I can't even call it boring. Compared to that boring sounds good. I long for the days of boring.

Phew...glad it's not just me who is sick of the same tropes....recently, my "I'm so done with this" is young adolescent stories of tragedy who loved and got separated and found each other again years later. Big yawn!

I love romance, but I did get burned out on reading only romance, especially with the tendency towards oversexed romance. I am reading a lot more mystery and suspense, including cozy mysteries and it's a nice palate cleanser.

Don't the publishers/author's contracts/??? know that they are saturating the market by having everybody and their (step)brother write the same kind of books? One day, an author decided to write about (fill in the blank here) and it sold well. The next day their agencies told every single author in their stable to write about that best-selling theme and poof! We have hundreds of books about (fill in the blank here). Spread it out, guys!

I believe that is why we have so many "one hit wonders" amongst new authors. Some cannot sustain the originality/creativeness needed to make a name for themselves. Frustrating..

I think the publishers definitely encourage the over-saturation of themes that sell well.

I can't get into the biker theme, especially after watching a program about the Hell's Angels. Nothing romantic about that to me at all. But then I can't judge if others like it. I like assassin heroes. :)

Any PNR that uses spells and the term "So Mote it be"......so.sick.of.this...

I'm binge watching Sons of Anarchy and while fun, there's nothing sexy about any of these guys. Never got the biker trend thing. Gimme an old fashioned construction worker werewolf story. Bonus if the heroine is the construction worker!

I noticed that too. Abuse or abandonment or social issue of some sort is a common thread.

I struggle with the erotic tendency of a lot of new romances regardless of their sub-genre. I do try to mix my reading up a bit with YA/PNR/RomSus/Hist... so that seems to help.

As for authors being "one hit wonders" and the market being "saturated", I think there are so many books being published nowadays that it is very difficult to find the treasures amongst them. Here is an interesting article about why some authors' incomes are dwindling.

Burned out on indie published books that are getting lots of 4 - 5 stars rating, but are seriously badly written, badly edited rubbish with an over contrived and melodramatic plotline. Most of these are YA or NA with love triangles and misunderstanding galore. It's a shame because there are good indie authors out there but if you can't trust the reviews or ratings in Goodreads, it is hard to sort out the wheat from the chaff.
