I can also see why a lot of readers out there really liked Adjunct Tavore more and more as the series progressed. I can't tell if Kalam is really dead or not. And as for Pearl, I still can't bring myself to think of him as the bad guy.. it's just so sad!
Icarium on a rampage is really, truly frightening!!
And how can anyone not empathise with the sight of Cotillion, Patron of Assassins, the god, sitting alone, with his head in his hands. Gosh, I love this character!
I am really looking forward to the Reaper's Gale now. Karsa and Icarium both heading to the Letherii Empire to bring down Emperor Rhulad. That is going to be epic!
But in the meantime, I need to kick back with something less grimdark.
I totally agree with you on the hype and excitement for Reaper's Gale. Although that was a loooooooong book. I think I was very close to giving it a 5*s but just my mental headspace wasn't quite as in it as I was with the last two which is why I went for a 4.5* star rating in the end. I really really liked it, but it wasn't as mindblowing to me as the previous two... however... A LOT went on in the last part and I have a lot to think over before I sit down and fully type up my review.
So, in response to what you have said:
- Adjunct Tavore is a character whom I really didn't like to begin with but my opinion of her has certainly changed with the storyline she went on and I have to say I didn't expect the change in her. I thought that she was a bloodthirsty b**** for a while, but now, I kind of like her (at times)... I'll be watching out for her certainly anyway!
- Kalam, I have no idea if he's dead or not too because I always think that there's a chance of them returning. It could totally go either way for sure.
- Icarium is a complete badass! Very scary!!!
- Cotillion does seem a lot more 'human' than many of the other Gods. I think I actually quite like and feel for the guy :)
- Karsa and Icarium fighting again will for sure be funny, and also taking on the Emperor does promise to be a BIG BAD SHOWDOWN!! I can't even theorise on what will happen there but it's sure to be very exciting!!
Can't wait to continue. I will post a link to my review after I write it (hopefully tomorrow)

Fiddler actually playing that fiddle in Malaz City is just, I don't even know the words for it, ineffable. But that's a haunting and melancholic scene that always stayed with me.
Haha I remember Shadowthrone screwing Quick Ben over and plopping him own in front of an enraged Icarium, its like nothing can keep him at bay for long. Props to Trull for even staying with Icarium for a little while. Trull is one stalwart guy.
I remember Cotillion having this really emotional moment at the end. I can't remember the context at all, and I can't even remember what he realizes, I believe Erikson obfuscates it and doesn't tell us outright. But it's something that really shakes up Cotillion. I'll have to look it up again and see if it pops out at me. But I just remember feeling very surprised to see that kind of vulnerability out of Cotillion.
I hope you all enjoy Reaper's Gale. There's alot of division on I guess. Alot of people don't like it, some people do. Not why about all that, I think it's my favorite of the post Midnight Tides books. And Karsa, Icarium, and Rhulad is something else haha.

I do want to say, however, that I'm eager for Reaper's Gale (and to get caught up with the group), but I better tackle some other books I've been neglecting first.
Also, I was really grateful for the more human nature of Cotillion (and to a lesser extend Shadowthrone).
Finally, I have a daughter with special needs. Her true nature is very sweet and kind, but she is prone to rampages. Sometimes, I look into her eyes and believe I can see her inner self pleading for me to stop her and to help her regain control. I think this is how Icarium feels. For that reason I really want Icarium to find peace. In a small (truthfully insignificant) way it will be like my own little girl prevailing over herself. (PS- her brother is her little Mappo Runt in a lot of ways).

Overall this book really pushed the story along and I cant wait to start reapers gale.
