Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I've decided on the "His Dark Materials" trilogy - about 12% through the first book & not loving my decision so far. It's not awful, but it just hasn't grabbed me at all, and I'm not really connecting with the main character (and I'm not entirely sure what's going on yet, either).

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments I didn't like the first book, but loved the second one :-)

Camilla I will read this as well, but I have slotted it in the banned book week, so will get to it later. I liked the movie, so I'm curious to see how the book compares.

Sophie (sawphie) For me the book was far far better than the movie, so I hope you'll like it! I agree that at first you just don't understand what's happening, but it comes round, you'll see. I specially loved how the story develops in the second and third books.

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 414 comments Yes! The second and third books are where things get clearer and there seems to be a purpose to all the events in the story. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I heard it glossed over the issues that the books were trying to bring up which is religion.

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I'm about a quarter through now, and I'm definitely liking it more. I think I'm comparing it to Harry Potter (being YA fantasy), and it's falling short. But it's certainly holding my interest, which is more than I can say for the last book I read. Yay?!

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Well, I'm finished. And I still don't really know what the heck is going on.

Amanda Jimenez (whispering_lilac) | 70 comments I'll be taking this ride with you. I read the reviews and I am curious to see how this could appeal to "adult" readers.
