Calculated in Death is next on our buddy read list for July. We'll finish Delusion in Death the first half of the month then end the month with Calculated. We'd love to have you join our buddy read discussions anytime.

On Manhattan's Upper East Side a woman lies dead at the bottom of the stairs, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better.

A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn't seem the type to be on anyone's hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the building, the lieutenant knows Marta's murder was the work of a killer who's trained, but not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.

But when someone steals the files out of Marta's office, Eve must immerse herself in her billionaire husband Roarke's world of big business to figure out who's cruel and callous enough to hire a hit on an innocent woman. And as the killer's violent streak begins to escalate, Eve knows she has to draw him out, even if it means using herself as bait. . . .

I plan to start Calculated later in the week. Anyone else already started?

SB*needs low angst books* I haven't started but will start this week coming up. I thought this one was the strangest I read due to the story. It almost didn't interest me til it got to a certain scene then drew me into the rest which was strange for me. I mean some hit faster then others but this one really lacked for me in the beginning. But it turned into one I thought was interesting. It also had some really awesome moments so re listen will bring those back.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments I finished it and can't wait to discuss :)

SB*needs low angst books* Kris, is it a first time read for you?

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments Yes, it is. I'm reading through the whole series for the first time...I'm not even done and can't wait to do a reread lol. (I'm just on Thankless in Death now).

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments And, I have to agree the story didn't interest me at first for a bit either. It took me a bit longer getting into it.

SB*needs low angst books* How cool. I actually miss reading it for the first time and you don't have much farther to go to get to masters book. I can't wait for the new one. I actually really enjoyed Thankless. It was on that hit the ground running. Can't wait to discuss that with you too.

I actually enjoyed this one more in re listening then the first time read. So that says a lot lol.

It's a special experience reading the series for the first time, Kris. I am so glad you chose to do that with us in our buddy reads. I also think this is a series that you'll love the 2nd time around also. I pick up new little things each time I read one of the books again.

Sheri Morell (smorell22) | 2165 comments I have finished reading and looking forward to the discussion.

SB*needs low angst books* Sheri wrote: "I have finished reading and looking forward to the discussion."

Hi Sheri, is this a first time read or re-read for you?

Michelle | 2653 comments This will be a first time read for me. I think it was after this book that we started the buddy read.

SB*needs low angst books* Michelle wrote: "This will be a first time read for me. I think it was after this book that we started the buddy read."

Really Michelle. I don't know why I thought everything was a reread for you. So cool. I will say I really hope you enjoy it. I am starting tonight so I can be ready to chat.

Michelle | 2653 comments For some reason once I started the rereads I didn't read the new ones as they came out. I thought that it would be cool to catch up and continue. Surprise me forgetting that robb writes A Lot

I'll try and start Monday , latest Tuesday

I understand. Buddy reads are good to discuss things you really want to talk about.

I did the same thing in regards to the last couple of releases...we were getting so close to catching up that I have just held on to those. In fact, I need to check to see if it's just 2 that I haven't read or maybe 3. Not sure.

It'll be a bit later in the week before I can finish this one.

I know I cannot believe I am catching up! Thankless grabbed me right away and it is painful to turn off my iPod to do other things, lol.

Same here, Sbyrd in regards to discussing the books with you.

I am so glad I am on the same books as the buddy reads as I love discussing with you all!

Kirsten (kmcripn) I so agree, @Kris. I have skipped meals and tv shows and not answered the phones to finish an In Death book!

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments Lol...I like listening to them on audio so I can eat and listen at the same time, Kristen ;)

Have you ever slowed down doing something because you were listening so hard? Lol!! I know I have. My husband also says I have this goofy smile on my face sometimes when I am really enjoying a scene lol.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments Yes, lol. When I wash dishes or vacuum I either slow down or if a villain is annoying me I scrub or vacuum aggressively. I have heard that I make facial expressions when I listen to books - which I totally believe, lol.

Lol! I was saying in the thread for Delusion that I make my husband listen to parts I think are hilarious.

That is one thing I love to share with my husband who doesn't listen to them but knows and feeds my obsession lol. I remember making him listen to Indulgence beginning where she go on the rant and the bed and the animals. I also made him listen to the part in Celebrity that cracked me up when Peabody feeds the squirrel and Eve was like here comes the air force. They're so many scenes I made him listen to. Lol, he must love me.

He is. Lol! It is hard not to share which is why I love this group. It makes me feel more sane lol.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments I agree...nice to find other fanatics of this series :)

SB*needs low angst books* Kris - My Novelesque Life wrote: "I agree...nice to find other fanatics of this series :)"

It is. I was a member of GRs for a while and only used it for keeping track of books I read and look at reviews for books that I found interesting. Just last year I finally joined some groups and it lead me to this group and I was like hallelujah. Finally people I can talk to about my love of the series.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments That's great! It nice having people who understand what you are talking about.

So glad you joined our Buddy Reads, Kris. Love the great book discussions here!

Michelle | 2653 comments I'll apologize in advance. I know myself, as I read I'm sure I'll want to share immediately. I really missed that with delusion( let's not go there or down That rabbit hole , just say Jonetta our champion)

Anyway. I've started and I'm wondering now that Eve has become more "famous" , how much more difficult will it not be to notify next of kin. Before the Icove case and now movie , she was just Roarke's cop. No matter how annoying it was she was recognized I suppose as more benign. Now she's become more famous in her own right.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I think it's funny when she goes into businesses just to gather information and she gets the "Mrs Lt Roarke" spiel!

Michelle | 2653 comments Lol. And she finally got to have a real argument about getting into the door. Yes it was with a computer but she hasn't had one of those in a long while.

No reason to apologize, Michelle. I'm the same way, time permitting. I prefer discussing a book AS I'm reading it more than after I finish & maybe move on to another book.

Michelle | 2653 comments Nothing really exciting of nail biting in this one. Love Trueheart going to see Eve. now I'm wondering if Roarke will ever gift Peabody with a magic coat of her own after that " field test".

SB*needs low angst books* Ok I have finally started my reread. I am listening right now so will be updating as I go.

Michelle | 2653 comments Been feeling lonely. I'm about halfway through.

SB*needs low angst books* Michelle wrote: "Been feeling lonely. I'm about halfway through."

Sorry, I am back lol.

Michelle | 2653 comments Lol. No problem. We usually are all over the place. Just great someone's us ready/ listening along.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Sorry Y'all!! I'm working on it now! :)

SB*needs low angst books* Ok since I have just began I have to say. The officer named Terney that got to the crime scene first and reported to Eve reminded me of her first time meeting Peabody and Eve. She seemed like one Eve would pick out. I also thought the officer might be a good girlfriend candidate for Trueheart. You know she seemed earnest and sweet.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Love when Eve tells Peabody that Terney reminds her of Peabody. And Peabody starts to ask...when Eve cuts her off to say something about Don't ask me if she's prettier, got a smaller *ss, etc. lol Peabody says, "I wasn't thinking about her *ss, but know I am." Or something like that.

Heartbreaking scene when they arrive to inform the husband...he knew when he saw them at the door & he collapses. You can feel the grief. As Peabody says, Some are worse than others.

I am not going to lie I brushed past it due to it really hurt to hear about. I mean some really hurt and this was one of them. Same with the teen in Kindred. I always skip because it hurts too much.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments Finally starting my read. I hate when life interferes with my reading time.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) | 9 comments Sandra ~ ♥ Cross My Heart ♥ wrote: "Love when Eve tells Peabody that Terney reminds her of Peabody. And Peabody starts to ask...when Eve cuts her off to say something about Don't ask me if she's prettier, got a smaller *ss, etc. lo..."

That was a hard scene to read, Sandra.

Michelle | 2653 comments Ja. That's why I wondered if now that she has become more recognisable as a murder cop , how much more difficult it would be for her. Before she was recognised as Roarke's cop and wife, famous by association.

( btw Ja is Afrikaans for yes. It might start popping into convo more often without permission )

That is a lovely scene. :-).

@ SB. Isn't Trueheart going out with someone in records?
