It’s summer and it’s time to read! In honor of Summer Reading, I’ve decided to pick a challenge that reflected our theme of music. I found Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn, If I Stay I Stay by Gayle Forman and Sonny’s Blues in Going to Meet the Man by James Baldwin. I’m looking forward to your choices in books. Your challenge can include reading about music, finding titles with music themes, books about musicians, instruments or bands. A good source of ideas is Google. I entered music themed books and found twenty choices. Since one of my favorite themes is mysteries I'm going back and adding that as well.

Robin M. | 28 comments Hey Teresa google hit on cozy mystery list blog that has the books by theme. I'm going to try the Irene Adler mystery series. Thanks for the idea. I wonder what I'd get if I tried it for science fiction and fantasy.

Chip | 89 comments I just bought Becoming a Better Sight-Reader... or Not! from Amazon Kindle for $2.99. It's my next book - without even realizing the July Challenge was music. My sight-reading skills at the piano are pretty bad. Maybe this will help!

Teresa | 3 comments I'm going to go with Just Listen by Sarah Dessen for the music theme. I've always wanted to try a Sarah Dessen book and since this fits the theme I will go for it.

I just realized I ignored Sacramento Public Libraries catalog where you can also create a list by putting in limiters such as music theme and mystery. And enjoy Novel List! It's made to create searches for just the right book and Sac Public offers it for free!

Susan (yetanothersusan) | 203 comments This might be the push to finally read Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist! I adore books with soundtracks, probably even better than ones with recipes in them! If you haven't read "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" I would suggest that!

Teresa | 20 comments I have a confession to make: this was such a busy month I barely read at all. I never thought I'd miss a day with print in it but there you have it. However I just started Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist and listen to this: "I am listening and I am not listening because what I'm playing isn't something I'm thinking about, it's something I'm feeling all over." I love books.

I tried the hit and found a bunch of books. These are some of the ones I've found at the library that are muscial and mysteries:
Amanda Carmack: Elizabethan mystery series
Alisa Craig: Trouble in the Brasses
Sara Hoskinson Frommer: Joan Spencer Mystery Series
Church Choir Mystery Series: The comatose cat
Andrew M. Greeley: Nuala Anne McGrail Mystery Series
I'm dying to start them.

Kristi | 9 comments If you are a child of the '80s like me, you might enjoy any of the books written by Rob Sheffield. I've read his first two and enjoyed them both immensely, and they come with a list of songs. His most recent came out last year. I haven't read it yet but it's on the list!

Love Is a Mix Tape: Life and Loss, One Song at a Time
Talking to Girls About Duran Duran: One Young Man's Quest for True Love and a Cooler Haircut
Turn Around Bright Eyes: The Rituals of Love & Karaoke
