Answer ONE of the following:
-What motivates your character?
-What is the most important conflict in your text?

You must use at least ONE appositive phrase in your response.

For a “4”: Did I….
• Write a topic sentence that provided the title, author, and genre of my text?
• Provide context of what is happening in the text, so my reader understands what I’m talking about?
• Find a direct quote from the text that proves my idea?
• Thoroughly explain the significance of my quote/how it proves my idea?
• Check for correct punctuation and spelling?

Ben Friedman | 25 comments In my book, a very informative one at that, “Chew On This.” By Eric S. The biggest conflicted in my book is the health factor. For example Chicken McNuggets, a small piece of ground of chicken, Is made up of chicken legs, heads, cuts, and ther things. The reason why this is such a big topic is because what the food is made up of is really hurt people because it is very unhealthy.

Monica | 43 comments The fantasy book, The Nightmare Garden, by Caitlin Kittredge is my favorite book out of all the books in the world! My protagonist, a wild and confident faerie girl named Aoife Grayson, has discovered the secret way of entering the destroyed world of the Love Craft. This was the world where Aoife had left her mother behind and her mortal dad, not knowing where he had gone. Now, journeying with her companions, her brother Conrad, her best friend and boyfriend, Dean, and Bethina and Cal, she had found and ventured inside the Gate, the door which Draven has secured with his power. Dean wasn't what she had thought he was and Aoife felt like she no longer trust anyone, not even her own parents. The world is at a dangerous place. From these few textual evidence in the book, I can be sure that the most important conflict in my text is to get away from Draven at the moment. On page 135, the author wrote "And Draven, only the city Head then, was doubtly in control now, had the whole machine of the proctors to back up whatever story he cared to spin like the venomous spider he is......." This quote shows the history of Draven back then when he was the LoveCarft's city's head. But now, Draven blamed Aoife for everything that happens around LoveCraft, which proves that she is remarkably in trouble. But on the other hand, lots of people also respect Aoife for destroying the LoveCraft world, and Aoife doesn't know how to deal with it. This proves that hate and respect can't really overlap and combine its power together.

Mark | 33 comments In the book The Magician by Michael Scott what motivates the protagonist Nicholas Flamel the most is the twins Sophie and Josh Newman. In the book so far Scatty got kidnapped by the big monster Nighog but Josh stopped it, also Sophie and Josh Newman fought some of the other creatures, another thing is the sword that josh has controls itself. Lastly Josh did a very brave act and everybody is shocked. The twins are a motivation for Nicholas because in order for the world to be safe they need to survive and learn magic that isn’t dark. Nicholas, has finally found the perfect twins that match the prophecy. Also he serves the elders and their image of this world is to keep it peaceful. “No don’t go anywhere I need you in my sights at all to make sure you’re in no danger. Ok fine but when are my powers going to be awaken, Josh soon your powers will be awaken just be patient.” This quote shows how Nicholas can’t even let the twins out of his sights because he needs them to save the world, and that’s a huge motivation for Nicholas.

Justin Yu | 20 comments The realistic fiction book I am reading is 8th Grade Super Zero by Oluggbemisola Rhuday Perkovich. The main character, Reggie, seems to have problems with his life. But he has had some problems with his life. His dad is unemployed and his mom is taking care of the family all by herself. He is almost helpless. But He has friends to keep him moving. The most important thing in life other than knowledge is socializing. If you can't keep up with family, friends might give an extra push.

Elva C. | 40 comments In the fantasy book, Untamed by P.C Cast and Kristin Cast, the fourth book is about Neferet, the antagonist in the story declaring war on the humans, and a evil spirit is about to rise once again. The biggest conflict in the book, is Queen Tsi Sgili, and the rise of Kalona. Tsi Sgili are Cherokee evil witches. They enjoy killing, and they "revel in death." Queen Tsi Sgili, is the leader of all of them. Kalona, much worse than Tsi Sgili, is an evil Cherokee demon. He has committed many crimes to women, and is super hard to destroy. These are the most important conflict in the book because, in the book, Aphrodite, a character that used to be Zoey, the protagonist states, "All of my visions are warning of a tragedy that could happen..." (221). This quote is telling us that Aphrodite, a gifted girl, had a vision about Zoey's grandma sitting next to a poem that describes Kalona rising, with the grass around her bleeding. In Aphrodite's previous visions that she had, it was all dangerous accidents that will happen later on in the future; Therefore, if this is similar to the other visions that she had, Kalona, will rise once again.

Jack Brill | 41 comments In the non-fiction novel " When There's a Fork in the Road Take it" by Dave Kaplan what motivates my character which just so happens to be Yogi Berra, who is, a baseball player for the New York Yankees. The thing that motivates him is that he wants to be the best makes himself believe that nobody is better than him at anything so that keeps him motivated and confident.

Jevel Gilbert | 18 comments In the fiction novel called The Wide Window by Lemony Snicket. The chapters I read was about three little kids named Vilot,Klause, and Sunny were going to live with there aunt Josphine. The reason why they went to live with there aunt because there parents died and there was nobody to take care of them. As there lives went on, Mr. Peo, the Banker, had an idea to take the kids to there aunt house." They had driving them across the Lake Lachrymose to live wtih there Aunt Josephine"(1). This proves that there was still a chance for them to have a better life. Also, the kids were a little afraid of there Aunt Josphine house was a creppy house and was going to have a hurricane next week. That was there only hope for them.

In Megan Bostic's realistic fiction book " Never Eighteen", Austin Parker, 17 year old teenager, is trying to solve other people's problems while he has some conflicts himself. Austin Parker is just a normal teenager doing his daily things, but one day wanted to meet with some of his friends and try to fix their life issues. Austin meets up with Kaylee, his biggest crush, so she could drive him around. Kaylee drives him to Austin's friends' places like Justin's, who passed away, to talk with Justin's mother. Kaylee drove Austin to wherever he wanted like to Allie and hearing bad and good stories, trying to offer some help. Austin had a tough time hearing all his friends having problems with life. He tried to overcome his own fears by going to the town fair and doing stuff he never did before like eating spicy hot chicken wings and riding roller coasters that always got him sick. After meeting some more friends, Austin bought Kaylee to a very nice restuarant and then to a nice view, trying to get the most attention from Kaylee. Austin tried to tell her felt in love with her, but his mouth just won't do the right work. The next day, Austin brings Kaylee to a long hike and to some nice views. At that point, Austin finally started getting her attention. After that, Austin went to talk to his dad and tried to get his father to get back with his mother to solve some issues. On page 100-101 (Only Pages on Nook), from Austin's point of view, "My mouth is trying to procrastinate, but I fight to get the words out." This showed that Austin was having some serious trouble trying to get his love words to Kaylee, his love. Although this book does not clearly state this kind of as a main problem, the author is still trying to state this. This whole time, Austin tries to tell Kaylee he loves her from bringing her to restaurants, mountain hiking, and more. Overall, that's his problem as of now, he thinks of Kaylee all day long and just can't get his word out to Kaylee.

Seige | 17 comments In the book ''Specials'' By Scott Westerfield what motivates my character is being as equal as everyone else . She is not liking the fact that she is not as special as everyone else and she wants to change that or at least get to the next level. Tally is taken to the world of no civilization since it was destroyed in a Terrible Invasion but she will do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of it.
