Did anyone else have issues with the ending.

So Delilah and Oliver get their happy ending, but The author of the book not only looses her husband, but her son too. As a mom, I have a hard time liking the ending. Oliver, the character, is not a replacement for the author's son. It just made me sad for her, and seemed like a very selfish ending.

I too was bothered with the ending, are they going to tell the author that it's not really her son or just play along? If so he probably knows nothing about it since he's been in a book his whole life and the mom would be confused plus he would have to live with her and not near Delilah. I don't see how that would work.

I personally thought that the ending was very romantic and squeal-worthy. But I can see where you're coming form (I don't have a child so I can't really relate).

I didn't care much for this book, and the ending didn't work for all the reasons Analise and Yvonne said. It was a great idea, but it didn't flow. And I hated the different colored ink--it was just tooo cutesy.

Linda Exactly! The different colored ink made it so hard to read at night on my kindle. I would get so frustrated.

Me too. I have an issue with the ending, it might as well be an open-ended one. I mean how would they live happily ever after, is Oliver immortal? He bleeds ink. How about the son of the author - his life would be just like Oliver - a constant cycle.

the ending was really gay. it was sort of a downer compared to the rest of the story...

I had no problem with the ending and actually thought it was a really clever idea. I didn't feel sorry for the mother at all because she was the one making her son feel inadequate all the time for not being like Oliver! In the end everybody got what they wanted- including the mother.

I don't think it was selfish because he did WANT to go into the book.

I didnt like it that much because what's gonna happen to the author's son maybe hes gonna get tired of the cycle and about his mom maybe she talks to him evryday by opening the book

I would of ended it differently. I might of ended it with the real son being a good guy, and her getting together with him. When he does get together with him, the book stops speaking to her, and she has a real boyfriend but that's just me. Anyone else think that makes more sense?

I wanted Delilah and the authors son to get together. It was a great book though :)

I love Oliver. I guess the ending was a little sappy, but I loved it.

I hated the ending! The whole rest if the book was amazing, but the ending was so... Weird. She should have made it so rewriting the book worked and not have the author's son go love in the book instead. I mean, won't he get sick of it? What about his mom? What is everyone going to say when they see Oliver? How is he going to adapt to being in the real world? Too many unanswered questions...

Its not like she lost her son since the character of Oliver was created based on her son.

I was sort of bothered by the ending too, though it's not because of the mother. It's not like she lost her son, after all Oliver looks just like her son. I thought they would go a more realistic route and have Delilah accept that you can't change the ending in fiction because it's already written. I also thought she would accept that Oliver was just a character, who happened to be based off a real person -- and then have Delilah fall in love with the son. That made sense, and I guess that happened in a way. I know the sequel comes out this spring, so I am curious how they'll explain Oliver's journey into the real world.

Over all, I still really enjoyed the ending, despite the fairytale ending.

Alec's Always Bored Well, I'm going to have to read the squeal. I adore the premise but the ending rubbed me totally wrong. ...more
