Poppy Love him! New to the series but it is great.

How far into the series are you all? Is it still good late in the series or does it start to get old.

~Thena~ (athena-nadine) I've read every book in the series and the last book is one of the best yet! There are one or two books that are less liked, but overall the series stays fresh and great.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I'm up to book 5 and have book 6 waiting for me to read some time. I got a long way to go, and I haven't really been reading them continuously, so it may be many years before I finish this series at the rate Butcher writes them lol. So far my favorite books have been the 2nd and the 5th. I didn't care for Summer Knight too much. I enjoy reading Harry's humorous thought processes and Bob the skull :)

Elise, you should really care for Summer Knight. It is if not the most important book in the series.

Kristal Shaff (kristalshaff) I finished the series and really enjoyed it! Love Jim Butcher. Ghost Story is probably my least favorite so far.

I read most of the series in a marathon reading spree. Now that I have to wait for the next book, it feels really slow. :)

I've also read Jim's other epic fantasy series. If you haven't looked at that, it's good, too.

People keep saying it's the best of the series, and I was kinda meh about it too. I think it's (view spoiler) IIRC I liked Death Masks and Grave Peril the most, but they all bleed together for me.

Sean (stessmer) I think Changes is the best book in the series, but my favorite story in the series is The Warrior in Side jobs.

Barbm1020 Summer Knight was a hair-raising read for me. The previous books had some scary scenes, but I felt like Harry was pretty much in charge. This was where alt.Chicago got real dark! I like to read the Dresden Files in the summer time, when for some reason the magical world doesn't give me nightmares. The last one I read was Turn Coat, which is awesome for special effects and has great character development. How can I wait? Well... there are other wizards in other less terrifying books to while away the winter evenings.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I think it was more the plot I wasn't as interested in on Summer Knight, but it did get more exciting in the end.

Shannon SUMMER KNIGHT was one of my favorite of the Dresden novels per my review:

CHANGES really bothered me.

There's a small chance I'll continue with the series but it's small.

Thomas Young SSS, don't give up so soon, the latest book is by far the best and most complex of the books. Mab becomes a much more realized character and Harry does a lot less hand wringing. Result is a lightning read. And only Butcher can make Santa Claus a bad a**!

I agree about the last book, but to get to it one needs to survive Ghost Story which IMO is the weakest book in the series by far.

message 14: by Todd (new) - rated it 3 stars

Todd | 21 comments I read the first book in this series last month (part of the group read) and found it very enjoyable. The darker elements of fantasy (vampires, werewolves, demons, etc.) I normally don't go for so much (not that I *never* read and enjoy them, just don't pursue actively so much - I can pretty much enjoy anything), but I very much liked the main character in this book and was very glad that it's a series (I'm a series nut). Despite several other group reads this month and my having to study for finals, I couldn't wait so now I'm reading the second book in the series and enjoying it as well. Really fun series I probably wouldn't have started (at least right now) if it weren't for this group's selection last month, so well chosen!

Anyone watch the television series, The Dresden Files?? I was about to start watching them and wondered if I should read a bit further into the series so the show doesn't reveal things in the books I haven't yet read?? Is the TV series any good??

uuh I didn't know that there is a tv series about Harry Dresden. Thanks for bringing it up! I read the first four books of the Dresden Files so far and with every book I like this series a little bit more. The first one was enough for me to continue the series but especially the third and fourth book are absolutely great.

Matthew Nathaniel Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is quite possibly the coolest dude in all of speculative fiction. Who would have thought that your favorite fictional character would have a deep and unrelenting affection for Burger King and Coca Cola?
This series is great because it never ever ever stops being fun. And it has zombie t-rex'es, flaming poo flinging gorillas that fly and every flavor of vampire.
Also I don't think anybody in any book, film, show or otherwise has taken more abuse than Harry. And the guy is still going strong !!!!!

Christopher Preiman | 22 comments The less said about the tv show the better. It is so sad, dresden could have been adapted to tv so easily. And yet they destroyed it.

Adria I have read all the The Dresden Files series up to date and loved them all. They just keep getting better and more interesting. Can't wait for the next one.

Fomorach Is someone also reading the comics? I really like them and I think they are a great addition to the book series.

Warren (warfitz45) I've read Stormfront Vol.1, and did a review for it for a website a few years ago. What I remember was that the actual adaption was good, but the short story they adapted in the back had pretty bad artwork.

I went to comixology, and I got excited to see they have an original series running too. I may have to pick that one up!

Lonnie (easydemon) I just picked up the newest edition to the Dresden's Files Skin Game. What do you think of this book?
