QUESTION: Do you think Wraith and Serena make a nice pair so far? I like Serena and of course Wraith is...

It's really nice to see him softening a little bit towards Serena. She will be good for him...if he lets her.
I finally got this book (had to go to a store way out of the way) and I have to say that I am highly disappointed in the story so far.
Its basically Shade's story but a little different. One brother starting to fall for the girl, but has to kill her in order to survive.
/sigh
The writing is good, I mean there ARE differences but I was really disappointed that it wasn't something different from this author. I had very high hopes after the first two books.

Oh me too, I am actually almost done with it. Just I was really disappointed in her I guess is all :( I expected something so much better for Wraith's story.

I thought Wraith was much more endearing. He's not always trying to be an a-hole, LOL, even though that is his supposed role among the bros (I thought Shade fit that bill better, at least in the beginning of his book). His heart is visible very often in this book; he spends all of it, basically, as a true hero where Shade spent it... I couldn't even tell you. I just thought both of these characters were more real, likable, and developed.
Since the conflict was outside the relationship (big baddie), Wraith didn't have to be the bad guy. Action was better done, imo, the traveling, eluding the villain, fight scenes, pacing, etc. Roag was all sneaking, etc. This was a more conventional villain, which I definitely appreciated. There was no Armaggedon in Shade's book either, LOL. I appreciated the bigger conflict. That was nice.
Yeah and thats where I think she got wrong with her characters.. she wrote Wraith to be this asshole but Shade, if any of the brothers, is the asshole.
The way she is writing Wraith (not that I dont like it) just doesnt fit how she built him up to be.

I agree that this story starts out very similar to Shade's story but it didn't bother me too much. I really like Wraith and Serena together. Great action, the whole adventurer theme. I'll probably finish tonight.
I have one complaint though that really rubs me the wrong way. I get that we're supposed to think that Wraith is really a big softie (well, maybe loosely) but there were many references to how he cares about people but just as easily could do without them. In particular I remember Wraith thinking that he didn't really care about his brothers or Gem. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well, I just felt there were too many off-handed comments about Wraith not caring about others as he should. I do not particularly think of Wraith as a good person, he's really the sexy bad guy to me but I guess that's not a complaint!
