Interesting blog on the demise of the AOL boards

Ann, we are indeed lucky that we already had the Yahoo group in place so we could easily keep in touch. Thanks to Snap for setting that up in 2002 (!) when we had the first hints that AOL might abandon the boards.
And we're so very lucky that Cheryl was willing to jump right on the process of creating the board here. Thanks again, Cheryl!
Now if only all of our little ducks will find this pond.

Carol Cabgal, I'm so glad you found us. Your name is familiar but you're not on any of my lists--poster, lurker, or birthday. I'll rectify that immediately!

I posted for years on the divorce/custody type boards and as of now, to my knowledge, they have not migrated anywhere ..... I have known many of those people for 10 years! Some of us are e-mailing right now.

Wild horses could not drag me back to the AOL boards. There is too much good stuff here on Goodreads, and I won't reward bad behavior with my business or patronage.

amen to that!
I agree - this is much better aol.

Add my amen to that too. In another 10 years or so, AOL will be studied as an example of how to ruin a very successful enterprise, much the way Sony destroyed Beta. And remember, AOL was the first big provider and had a huge share of the business for a while. It's amazing how they've managed to drive it into the groud and alienate so many people. Dan/AZ

And one day I will proofread before I hit post. LOL That should read "much better than aol".

I was a Compuserve member also, and really liked it, don't remember how I transitioned off to AOL. And wasn't there something else, Prodigy or something with a "P"?

AOL knew perfectly well how to send us email alerts if there was a delay in getting the boards back up and running. I am not interested in going back after spending almost two weeks getting settled over here.

I was on Prodigy starting in 1991 or 92. And I remember my dh and I being so excited when AOL started offering 20 hours a month for a flat rate. Except when he used some of my hours. We were each supposed to have 10. LOL!

I was on Prodigy and liked it.

I am informed when new posts are put up, but you can opt out of most e-mails.
Glad you're here.

I keep wanting to click over and see what has been posted on the board. At least we have Goodreads and Yahoo to keep connected. I guess I feel luckier than many people.
