Under the Sun:
Do you already know who you'll nominate? If so we can jump ahead.

Richard:
The Poll is actually already up. Has been fro a few days.

Under the Sun:
Totally missed that. Okay

Richard:
lol Okay.

Under the Sun:
Alright. Let’s get started!
So Richard, you've been selected for this interview. Do you accept?

Richard:
Of course.

Under the Sun:
Cool.
So how did you pick up the art of writing? What inspired you to start?

Richard:
Umm... I tried to kill my aunt. Came really close to succeeding. That's when I wrote Shattered, a poem about suffering a fate worse than death. Oddly enough the poem helped a great deal with 'shattered' soul. After that I just started writing to get my rage out. Which is why my writing is so violent; I have severe rage issues.
My need to calm my rage inspired me to start I guess.

Under the Sun:
Well I'm glad you found a way to calm your rage.
Did you write anything before you wrote Shattered? Or was Shattered the first? What made you think to write to calm your rage?

Richard:
I wrote a poem for school entitled the Greatest Poem Ever Written. That was the only thing I ever wrote before Shattered and I only wrote it because I was forced to. Oddly enough I never had to write another. I don't think the teacher like the word 'fuck' in the poem or the violence of 'blowing his brains all over the floor', with a Dirty Harry Magnum.

No idea. I think it was Shattered got rid of the empty feeling so much why not try to get out some rage with writing? But truthfully I don't know. I'm just glad I had the idea.

Under the Sun:
Haha. Yeah, I bet the teacher didn't like that

Okay. I'm sure we're all glad you had the idea.

So do you write more than poems? How many poems have you written?

Richard:
I write a lot of short stories too. Mostly violent beyond belief.
Actually I just finished writing a book. I'm editing it now.

Ummm... about a one hundred.

Under the Sun:
Are the short stories like Shattered? A way for you to get rid of rage?
Cool! What is the book about?

That's a lot. How do you get the ideas to write so many?

Richard:
Basically.

It's about a man named Cole, who's fiance is taken from him by the Almighty God. Now instead of accepting this Cole goes on a war path across the United States, Hell, Purgatory, & Heaven.

The ideas come from strange things. A few examples are;
'End of Forever' came from the Misfits song Descending Angels or rather one of lines which is in the poem, "Forever Ends Tonight"
'Prayer' came from boredom when a certain girl hadn't come on line for three days.
'Pedophile's End' came from a rape and Murder in Utah. The victim was a six years old girl.
'Endless Desire' came from people who were ashamed of having BDSM desires.
A few more have come from my hatred for religion and most come from music.

Under the Sun:
Wow, that's a long journey! Why did Cole decide to go through so much for the girl?

Interesting. Do you have a favorite poem?

Richard:
Because he loved her. She was his life, Without her he had nothing. People talk about true love all the time but I always wondered... how far would they really go for the ones they love? So Cole became my poster child of the answer. For the girl he loves he battles humans, demons, angels, demi-gods and the Almighty god himself. To him nothing matters besides his fiance. Distance is nothing, Time it takes to get her back is nothing, the lives he must take to get her back mean nothing.

More than likely is it would have to be Spring.

Under the Sun:
Wow, that's sweet. So what was the inspiration for that book?

For those of us who haven't read it, what is Spring about?

Richard:
Umm oddly enough it came to me in a dream about a certain girl I know. In the dream god takes her from me. So I take god's life from him. Well that's where the idea came from at least. The inspiration came from a two things; One was the real girl who the dream had been about, two was my love for mythological/Religious stories.

Paranoia. A guy feels like something sinister is watching him so he runs from the shadows to the light of the sun but it doesn't help. So he runs in to a church hoping the holy place will help but it doesn't. So at the end of his rope he climbs to the roof of the church and jumps off to finally end the paranoia.

Under the Sun:
Fascinating. So the idea came from the dream, and the inspiration came from the girl and your love of myths and religion stories. How did they help be your inspiration?

That's really... Dark. And deep. Was it inspired by anything in your life?

Richard:
Well the girl became the base for Cole's fiance. She inspired that character like nothing else could. She is to me what Cole's fiance is to him. My love for myths and religious stories inspired the rest of the characters, Hestia and Cerberus, from greek myth, Metatron from Jewish myth. Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel, and Lilith from Christian myth. Harut & Marut from Islam. As well as the locations. My version of Hell is from the Catholic myth's Seven Deadly sins. My version of Heaven was inspired by Mormon's three stages of heaven.

It is one of two poems inspired by... I guess you could call him a friend... his name was Crazy Joe Willy. Or at least that's what people called him. He was a homeless guy.

Under the Sun:
That's pretty neat. Now that you've finished writing it, what are your plans? Will you publish it? Write a second book, maybe?

Did he kill himself?

Richard:
I'm hoping to get it published yes. I am actually writing a second book. I couldn't just give up the story of Cole & Helena (his fiance). And there are more mythological people/creatures I want to write about. So I just put the two together.

Eventually he shot himself in the head. That's what the second poem is about. His ending the torment of his own mind.

Under the Sun:
What is the second book about?

That's horrible. Poor guy

Richard:
Well the old gods have woken up, The Celts in particular have come to earth and for some reason they want Cole's Niece. Nicolette 'Nicole' Young, Cole's sister, has some how gotten the interest of Arawan, Celtic God of War, Terror, and Vengeance and king of the underworld. Together Nicole, Arawan, Cole, and Helena will go against the whole of Celtic Myth for a 6 year old girl.

Yup... worst part was he was a Vietnam & Desert storm vet. Yet people spit on him. Treated him like shit.

Under the Sun:
Awesome! How far into the book are you?

That's depressing

Richard:
Ummm... Chapter tenish? Maybe a few less.

Yup...

Under the Sun:
Cool. Well good luck with writing it!

Is there anything you have written and do not like?

Richard:
Thank you.

Oh so so so so so much. lol Pretty much all my dirty poetry, most of my poems in general, every short story I've ever written. You are your own worst critic they say. I guess I prove that to be true.

Under the Sun:
Why do you hate them so much? Which do you like the least?

Richard:
Lots of reasons. Like I just don't like how they're written, don't like the subject, think it's cliché, don't remember writing it, or it's too close to home.

Wow that's a hard one... probably a tie between 'Muffin Man, Muffet, and A Whole Lot of Sin' & 'Pedophile's End'

Richard (ddaythecannibal) | 3078 comments Mod
Under the Sun:
Okay. That's understandable. Why wrote them then?

Interesting. Why those two?

Richard:
I never really know what I'm going to write until it's already done. A lot of people plan what they write and shit but I don't. I just write. So when I re-read them I don't like them.

The former was just horribly written. It was very forced. And I just hated it. I stopped writing dirty poetry for a long while after that.

Pedophile's End though... alright a lot of people think it's about killing a pedophile slowly. But if you read it, it never once says the pedophile is going to die. It is about torturing someone until they are broken. Every time I hear a story like that little girl in Utah, her name was Sierra Newbold by the way, I am filled with such rage such hate I want to break someone.

Under the Sun:
Okay

Alright, I see why

Good reason not to like the poem.

So where do you plan to take your writing? What's your big goals?

Richard:
I'm going to take it one step at a time. I don't really have goals. I don't really like making plans. I'd rather just deal with life as it comes at me. Like John Lennon said, "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." For now I just want to get publish the Fall of Heaven.

Under the Sun:
Sounds like a good way to go.

Well, anything you would like to leave this interview with?

Richard:
"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life." ~John Lennon

Under the Sun:
Brilliant. Well, it was great interviewing you!

Richard:
It was great being interviewed by you Goddess.

Blue Waterbottle

I lost a few of them, some were torn up, I burned a few more.

Give me like an hour.

No because Cole is his last name. Like how Peter goes by Delphor.

They call each other myths. They don't believe in each other's myths and call them such. Why should I be any different because I don't believe in any of them?

I like John Lennon. I just don't like his music.
