Seamus Duggan (seamusduggan) | 69 comments Do we now have to post all comments twice?

message 3: by Seamus (new)

Seamus Duggan (seamusduggan) | 69 comments Or will we have different threads on Goodreads and Shelfari?

message 4: by Uplandpoet (new)

Uplandpoet Watkins II (uplandpoetii) | 2 comments Both and neither. Maybe I will drag a few "hot" threads back and forth, but mostly I expect this to be a BTS in a Goodreads environment. It is certainly a different world here so I would think it will be a different BTS, only with the same sensibilities....

Mark Heyne (marconi_smh) | 6 comments Go out and explore! enter books into your own bookshelf and follow through on them into groups where they are reviewed and commented on. Follow up on recommendations. Lets not think we are being unfaithful to BTS Shelfari, but threat this as another site about books, many more books in fact than we actually review "back home"!

thanks mark. so far i havent seen the casual discussion, everybody seems so serious, but i am sure in a matter of time i will find some that arent. i couldnt believe i couldnt start a group that not only had to have a topic but a sub topic, and that i had to only use well known quotes. i wonder what will happen when they see my quotes......

Mark Heyne (marconi_smh) | 6 comments Actually, this is the only group i am a member of! I really should get out more!

mef (mefoley) | 39 comments I still haven't found this much-vaunted subtopic -- where is it listed? What am I missing?

message 12: by mef (new)

mef (mefoley) | 39 comments Don't know why GoodReads thinks I live in Fleet... *I* never told it that!

Will correct profile later -- you're right, Up, this will take some re-education, which is the whole problem with things on the web (sez I, who first used the ARPAnet in 1979): it takes so much &%*% time to learn every new application! Cuts into reading/writing/living time!

Mef, so right

Mark Heyne (marconi_smh) | 6 comments It seems to me you have to make an effort to go and find the books you are passionate about and get involved in the discussions. They aren't going to come to you, and i even doubt they are going to find their way here!
There are long threads on everything from Gatsby to The Road to the Bible, something for everyone... you may find yourself in a large room with many voices, unlike the cosy club-like BTS Shelfari, but its up to you to get involved and make your voice heard.

I think you are right

Well, i did jump into the Gatsby debate, as well as the Atlas Shrugged, and Melina Haynes Chalktown and have found some interesting people over at Poetry!, including quite a few of you who have migrated here.

Over on Shelfari, we tended to have an occasional group read, with varying degrees of success.

Here on Goodreads, it seems like discussing books that members have read at some point in time is more popular. I wonder if anyone wants to throw out a few titles, with comments and we start a mini thread of such discussions

message 17: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Constant Reader here on GR has many interesting discussions on books. We've been an online book group for over 20 years, the last 6 here on GR.
