For this question of the week, the question is are there books and movies that you really did not like the ending and would dearly love to revise?

If you are getting specific with what you want to change, please use spoiler tags so participants can have the choice to be spoiled if they so wish.

It's funny, I was just thinking about the terribly sad ending of (view spoiler)[City of Angels (hide spoiler)]. I just prefer HEA's. Darn it, Nicholas Cage, you made me feel bad for you!

Add to that one of the first movies I saw with James McAvoy, (view spoiler)[Becoming Jane (hide spoiler)]. Again, I just want the HEA. : (

I was so sure I'd see Titanic somewhere on this thread LOL Somehow it isn't. :P

I think one of the endings that bugged me to death was LETHAL by Sandra Brown. There's gotta be sequel to that stuff. :(

Some people dig the bittersweet stories, but I prefer the sappy-happy endings to romance books/movies.

I'm even ok if the couple has to go through a ton of strife, or even if they end up injured in some way... But ALIVE and TOGETHER is the key!

I wouldn't change the end of the play (given the history and virulence of enmity, conflict and strife between the -guilty- families, there could be no other end but the death of those who could transform that history), but every time I read or go and see the play, I wish (a kind of tearful wish) Juliet woke up before Romeo drank the apothecary's poison, and together they made it to Mantua. I wish Friar Laurence's plan were successful.

Cold Mountain... I never read the book and it's been a while since the movie but (view spoiler)[ Didn't Jude Law die right as he was about to reach Nichole Kidman? (hide spoiler)] I just need HEAs in my life.

I work with a lot of "intellectuals" who are always reading things like All God's Children (our work book of the month). I feel like sometimes people look down on me for reading romance and even more so for PNR but I just love a good old HEA. If a movie or book doesn't end with one then it's likely I won't watch it or ever read it again.

I agree with you about Cold Mountain. Didn't like that ending much.

I'm with you, Danielle. Life is too short to read or watch depressing stuff if you don't want to. I don't like intellectual snobbery, but it is very prevalent.

Anything without a HEA I would change ☺

Can't think of anything off the top of my head. But there are many.

Speaking of sad endings with James McAvoy (view spoiler)[ Atonement (hide spoiler)] was like that. I cried so much in the movie. Also (view spoiler)[ X-Men First Class, when professor x got shot due to his friend and that stupid girl and loss the use of his legs. That was heartbreaking to me. He was like, "I can't feel my legs! I can't feel my legs!" I was really upset by that moment (hide spoiler)] But, I understand that they had to show you how he got the way that he was in the older movies.

Jessica... how could I forget about Atonement. It was so shocking. HEA then ripped away! I was shocked for a while after that movie. Like just sitting there with my mouth hanging open.

Games of Thrones (view spoiler)[ would TOTALLY bring back Khal Drogo. It was awful the way he died. And the baby. Just awful!!! (hide spoiler)]

And I agree, Cold Mountain was a frustrating one.

I totally agree. I cried so hard at the end of Cold Mountain and then I was so angry after all that that they didn't get the HEA they deserved!

As far as books, definitely Burning Alive. I was so angry (view spoiler)[ that Thomas got killed. It has taken me years to get over it! I keep hoping he will come back. (hide spoiler)]

I would change Dead Ever After by Harris. It left so much open and didn't really end the series. I felt like it was just another book in the series, and that the book due in October is just a ploy to make more money because it will actually wrap the series up instead of how Dead Ever After should have.

OMG...I would so change the end of The Lovely Bones!! (view spoiler)[ I can almost live with the fact that they never caught her killer. What I cannot stand is that, when she had the chance, she didn't tell ANYONE where her body was! She watched over her parents all that time and giving them that closure would have helped them move on in some small way. (hide spoiler)]

I would also change the end of Beyond Reach. (view spoiler)[ I was devastated when my favorite character in the series (Jeffrey) died and I am still not over it. I haven't been able to read any more books in the series because I am still so upset. (hide spoiler)]

What about Ray the Firefly, Mufasa, and Bambi's mom. Disney movies always have some sort of murder intrigue underlying them.

Silver Dream Racer. This isn't so much a wish for a rewrite as a wish for a return to the original ending.... (view spoiler)[In the original UK version after winning the race, David Essex crashes the bike and dies, however in the version released to the the US, the film ends at the "winning post" thus finishing on a happy ending (hide spoiler)] Feels a bit odd saying this coz I'd normally demand a HEA, but that's not how the movie was originally intended, and so that's the one I want to watch. A couple of times here in Oz, it's appeared on tv with the US ending and I always feel cheated that they showed that version and not the "proper" UK one. Plus with the original, seeing David Essex (at the time, the guy I thought was the prettiest man alive in the 70s, and my first celebrity crush, sigh, drool)(view spoiler)[meet his fiery end is always good for bit of teary sniffle which sometimes I find oddly satisfying. Strange I know, but there you go!LOL. (hide spoiler)]

Yes! This movie threw so many emotions at you in the first 5-10 minutes.

Have you read the book The Lovely Bones? I think it ends different. Not positive though.

Yes, it was the book's ending I was referring to...I should have specified. They did change something about the ending of the movie, but not the thing that made me the maddest. :/

Preach it! What the hell? He rescues her ass, shows up so she's not alone at the dance and the thanks he gets for being a stand-up guy was to get left. I hated that ending.

And guess what...I read this cheezy movie based book before I went to see that in the theater...and she ends up with him in the book. lol I was so pissed.

I agree. I had a massive crush on Andrew McCarthy prior to Pretty and Pink, and this movie got me over him. Ducky was so much cooler.

Did you know the original ending to Pretty in Pink was she ended up with Ducky but the test audience hated it and they changed it? That's what I've heard anyway.

See! This is why the book I read had that ending. Test audiences are lame. Bad John Hughes!

Also, Molly Ringwald thought it wasn't believable to end up with Ducky either, she wanted it switched to Blaine as well. They re-shot the ending to have her with Blaine (btw his hair at the end is a wig cause he had buzz cut it for another movie). Personally I liked her with Blaine but I can also see how her being with Ducky would be saticfying. I just felt that she didn't have those feelings for him so it made more sense to me for her to be with Blaine.
