It's time to fill our shelves with great recommendations from our readers. Please recommend your all-time favorite Romance book, and we'll put it on our book shelves. Please only recommend one (1) book or the first book of one (1) series. No one may recommend their own book. To make your recommendation count, look at other recommendations to make sure you aren't recommending something that's already been recommended. Remember, your recommendation will go on our reading shelves. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing our shelves grow with your favorite Romance reads.

Rebecca J.R. Ward is one of my all time favorite romance writers. Her Black Dagger Brotherhood series is amazing. Dark Lover is the first novel.

Selena Haskins (booksbyselena) I love Nick too!

message 4: by Selena (new)

Selena Haskins (booksbyselena) I would recommend "The Man in 3B" by Carl Weber. It is an awesome suspense, drama, and love story mixed in one. It's the first time Author Carl Weber steps out of his comfort zone and writes a different genre. He keeps his sense of humor however, and fills us with bizarre and hilarious characters. The ending will shock you!!!

Mercedes (mudmule99) | 28 comments This is the first in the trilogy by Nora Roberts and was the best romance series I've ever read. Morrigan's Cross (Circle Trilogy, #1) by Nora Roberts

Toni Kenyon (toni_kenyon) | 6 comments I was torn. I love "The Time Traveller's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger - but technically, is it a romance I had to ask myself? So I went back to another of my favorites Outlander the version I read was called "Cross Stitch", the first of the Outlander series Cross Stitch. Jamie and Claire are just a beautiful couple.

Leiah Cooper (leiahingolden) | 38 comments I know not everyone follows my reviews (although I wish you would! LOL) Here is my review of The Vixen and The Vet. Besides the fact that it is a good contemporary romance, it is also for an exceptionally good cause. I hope you will help Operation Mend to help wounded warriors! Thank you for taking the time to read my review... Leiah Cooper, SoIReadThisBookToday.com

The Vixen and the Vet by Katy Regnery

As Independence Day approaches, it is wonderfully easy to look forward to taking a day to wave our flags and shake the hands of those who have served our country overseas in order to assure our freedom. We dress up, walk in parades, shoot firecrackers and eat barbeque, drink gallons of beer, then return to our homes and our jobs feeling self-satisfied that we have done our bit to “honor our soldiers.” But is that even close to being enough?

Katy Regnery has created something wonderful with “The Vixen and the Vet.” With what is ostensively romance novel, she has brought front and center a dark side of the human psyche – the ability of the American government, and the American populace, to ignore the real costs to the soldiers who often give not only their lives, but their bodies, minds and souls to the machines of war.

After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher Lee’s hand and destroyed his face, the former football star and small town hero returned to Danvers, VA a broken man. Scorned and vilified by the populace due to his destroyed visage, he retreats to his house on the hill and immerses himself in his library. Never leaving his house, he relies on Miss Potts, his retired second-grade teacher, to act as his interface with the outside world.

Eight years later, Savannah Carmichael appears on the scene. An up-and-coming journalist for the New York Sentinel, Savannah has committed the ultimate journalistic sin for a “hard news” reporter. She allowed her libido to cloud her judgment, relying upon a highly unreliable source for a career-making article. Fired and disgraced, Savannah has returned to her family in Danvers to try to rebuild her life. When an opportunity appears, seemingly out of the blue, to write a human interest story for the Phoenix Times, Savannah sees it as her first step to regaining her reputation and her life. And approaching Asher Lee for an interview, just in time for the Fourth of July, seems just the story to save her. The problem is, it isn’t just the townsfolk who are culpable when it comes to betrayal, deceit and viciousness.

As stated before, this is a romance novel, but it is so much more than that. Katy has written a book which, though it doesn’t hit you over the head with it, it still strongly points out how badly we let down our soldiers. Especially those who return with physical, mental and emotional damage.

In order to help, Katy has written this novel as a fundraiser, with 50% of her profits in June and July going directly to Operation Mend at the UCLA Medical Center. UCLA Operation Mend is a groundbreaking program that provides returning military personnel access to the nation's top plastic and reconstructive surgeons, as well as comprehensive medical and mental-health support for the wounded and their families. By offering cutting edge reconstructive facial surgery, prosthetics and intensive therapy to those heroes with calamitous injuries, Operation Mend helps our returning warriors live fuller and more comfortable lives once home.

To learn more about Operation Mend, I encourage you to check out their website here: http://operationmend.ucla.edu/

And now, a personal plea. A Starbucks® Mocha Frappuccino Grande is normally $3.75. This book is $3.99, and it is for an amazing cause. So, grab your wallet and let a wounded veteran know, if only in this small way, how much you appreciate them. They suffer, fight and die for YOU so you can remain safe. This is so little to ask to ascertain that when they return they may continue to live happy, productive lives among their friends and family members without suffering the pain of the scorn and fear of those whom they protect.

THANK YOU.

Requiem For The Fallen Requiem For The Fallen by Tabitha Vohn

Very nice book, for those looking for something different, out of the ordinary and also inspiring. It is moody, dark and redemptive. Prose with a twist of poetry. :)

Sarah Stuart | 33 comments That is incredibly generous to donate so much, and yet I don't suppose Katy considers it enough.

I hope she realises... I'm sure she does... how much more she is giving than money. She's raising the status of those who serve and protect to where it should be: the top of everyone's list of people to respect.

I don't claim to have done anything like that in my novel, but there is a message hidden beneath the sex, drama and celeb hype if readers open their eyes, and their hearts.

I shall be interested to see if it comes up in the Book of the Month discussion in November, and delighted if it does. "Love", in my case Romantic Suspense, written for a purpose, can be a powerful weapon for good.

Francene Stanley (goodreadscomfrancenestanley) | 17 comments Losing Patients by Virginia Taylor.
It's clever and witty, combining romance with a doctor, detective work by a nurse to find a killer, and plenty of tension. I really enjoyed it.

message 33: by Reily (new)

Reily Garrett (goodreadscomreily_garrett) | 1 comments I started reading Always Cambridge by HK Carlton. I love the style of writing, very descriptive without an over-the-head vocabulary. I would think it difficult to research this type of information, but she's done a great job of holding my attention. It just sort of sucks you in and won't let go. This is the first book I've read from this author, but surely won't be the last. I'm not usually a fan of mob-style books - but this is a romance that just grabs you.

Vishal Mudgal | 10 comments & I keep coming back to you
Whenever reality gets to me, whenever I feel lost in this big yet infinitesimal world, whenever I feel low, whenever there is this emptiness & I have to go to look for love, for hope, I read this book.

It is historical romance. And those who like cheating, double timing, explaining all the wrong done in name of lust (& then call it love), well you will be disappointed.

Coz this is a story of two ppl falling in love every single day, fighting their battles both of 'em standing together side by side, it is about sacrifices you make for love and for what you believe in, it is about all those thing which are so missed in now a days literature, it gives hope to a pure, pious feeling called love.

Pls do read it, one of the best book I have read.

Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold (Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold, #1) by Ellen O'Connell

Re-reading it millionth time again, today :)
