LDS Ladies Book Club discussion

Ok. I’m going to start a thread for the nominations. If anyone else is interested in doing this, please let me know. I’ll gladly turn it over to you.

Unless the group decides differently, I’m going to ask for one nomination from each person, posted between now and the 10th. Then all the nominations will be entered into random.org and one will be selected. A book may be nominated by more than one person, which would increase its chances of being selected.

You may also second up to two books someone else has nominated, which will also increase that book's chance of being selected.

Your nomination sounds good! I have lots of friends who have said that was the best book ever... so that makes me want to read it...

I'm trying to think of a nomination...

Do our nominations have to be LDSish? I was hoping not to have to limit ourselves to that genre... rather just choose books that we've heard are good without crossing the line... you know?

I agree. Not necessarily LDS, just good books that as far as we can tell are "clean."

So we decided -Maurine and I- that it would be good if, in addition to nominating one book, we can also "second" up to two more books. (These would be books that someone else has already nominated.) A book that has a lot of "seconds" would be more likely to be chosen in a random poll.

I want to suggest Stranded by Dani Pettrey. This is a series but you do not have to read all of them.

My suggestion is River's Edge by Marie Bostwick. It's on my list of books to read, so I'm hoping it's good and a clean read. The only bad review it got on Amazon was for being " too clean". I think that's a good sign.

After reading the suggestions... I'm happy to read whatever random.com picks because they all look good!

If I have to second a suggestion, I would pick Unbroken, just because so many of my friends have given it such great reviews.

I just finished Unbroken and think it was fabulous! It would be a great one to read!

I second Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson. Such a great book. Kiss of a Stranger by Sarah Eden would be good, too.

I LOVED Edenbrooke and LOVED Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption. They are wonderful books! But I'm not going to second them because I've already read them :). However,. If you haven't read them, you need to.

I loved Edenbrooke, and would love to read a good suggestion from all of you. I just don't have one to throw in currently.

Ok, I changed my mind. I would like to nominate Covenant Motherhood! Stephanie (the author) is family, and I'd love to support her efforts since I love her blog and think she is a very inspirational writer and person! Also since Mother's Day is next week, I plan on reading it! I'm game for whatever is chosen, but there is my vote!

I just finished "A Little Hair of the Dog" by Jane McBride. I loved it (so thanks for whomever recommended it!). I'm voting for it, because I think you all would love it!

I'm sorry Carri (and all) Visions of Glory is written by John Pontius. It is "One Mans astonishing account of the last days". I'm have just read it actually and thought it was very good and extremely interesting (don't want to give anything away). But, this book lends itself naturally to great discussions and I've been DYING to find out others' opinions!

Lots of recommendations for Unbroken...I think I might be "Broken" cause I didn't love it :/ I had trouble staying engaged, it wasn't what I thought it would be, but If y'all choose that one I will give it another try.

I just finished reading "Unbroken" and loved it. I didn't really know what it was about. But totally fell in love with it. So, I second that. I would like to nominate "84 Charing Cross Road." It is a short book but one that I love. But whatever everyone decides is great with me.

Can i second 84 Charing Cross Road instead of Unbroken?

I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get it in from interlibrary loan by at least the middle of June! :)

I found Rivers Edge at a library in a near by town, and found a kindle version on amazon for $8.36.
