(A star shines on the hour of our meeting)

Welcome to the T.C.B.S

message 2: by Jenelle (new)

Jenelle Fun premise for a group! I love Tolkien (though I guess I'm not a full-fledged Tolkienian... as I've never learned Elvish) ;)

message 3: by Annette (new)

Annette Hart | 6 comments I too have always loved Tolkien, and now the films (and annoy everyone with interjections about what's missing or background history!) but I also cannot speak Elvish. I do love a good Middle Earth map though, official or fan-inspired.

message 4: by Lucy Qhuay (new)

Lucy Qhuay I love Tolkien too. I wish I had his genius!

message 5: by Stan (new)

Stan Morris (morriss003) I've read the books about a dozen times. Did not like the movies that much.

message 6: by Nicole (last edited May 08, 2013 08:44AM) (new)

Nicole (nolivingmanami) I'm a huge Tolkiendil (I say Tolkiendil because dil is a Quenya suffix added to names to indicate friendship, love, or devotion to an object, idea, etc., to which one is devoted for its own sake) I've only read the books once and seen the movies twice, but I'm planning on watching and seeing them again this year. They're so amazing!!

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) It is a wonderful group to have. I've read the books a couple of times and seen all movies but The Hobbit (which I have, and just need to get the time at the TV...(sigh)... I have to be the only tolkien nerd in the house?...sheesh!)

Thanks for inviting me.

"creoso mellon!" (Welcome Friend)

message 9: by Ross (new)

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) | 17 comments Likewise, I'm an avid Tolkienian, LOTR and The Hobbit are first and second on my favourite books list (though I find the histories and The Children of Hurin extremely dessicating) Hail, and well met! And my thanks for the invitation.

message 10: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Maybe I should find an Elvish name.. Din Wilzar (wandering storm) or something like that?

(you can find the elvish dictionary in one of the lengthy appendixes in the back of Return of the King.)

Many thanks! I have not yet read Return of the King. But when I have read your comment, I rush on my shelf and get the book and to my amazement, there is Elven translations. I'll study it after reading LotR and Silmarillion.

I hope people here can teach me Elven language.

message 16: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Edwardson Mae govannen (well met),

I am a life long fan of Tolkien and his works and was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this group. The Hobbit was probably the first book I really fell in love with as a young man and I am still under the spell of it all these years later.

Aa' lasser en lle coia orn n' omenta gurtha
(May the leaves of your life tree never turn brown)

P.S. No, I don't know elvish either, but it sure is fun looking up phrases on the net.

I am so pleased that you found this group and thank you for joining 'mellon' (friend)!

message 18: by Keri (new)

Keri | 11 comments Thanks for the invite. I am a huge Tolkien fan and have been since I first saw the Fellowship movie and am always looking for other Tolkien fans to discuss his works with. I am an avid reader of anything Tolkien and have read The Hobbit, LotR and the Sil many times and the rest only once so far. lol. I never had much luck learning the languages though I did some of the Sindarin lessons on councilofelrond.com for a few months but gave up, learning new languages just isn't my thing. But I stuck around the site and am still there 8 years later. :) Any other CoE members here?
I look forward to discussing with you all. :D

Thanks, that was very touching - okay, and this is totally off topic but is anyone else watching Game of Thrones right now? In terms of just how cool it sounds as it rolls off the tongue, High Valerian gives Elvish or Klingon both a run for their money... :)

Vincent Stoia | 1 comments Hi everyone,
Thanks to Lucinda for inviting me. It's good timing actually, because right now I'm reading the hobbit. I finished Lord of the Rings a month ago or so. They're tough books sometimes but they're hard to put down.

i m actually watching game of thrones but i postponed reading the books till summer since i have my final exams :) but is it me or did the author introduce several plots in the story ???it s a bit hard to follow and establish a relationship between the several issues :p

message 30: by johanna (jo) (new)

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) Hi, guys.
I'm Johanna! I kind of just discovered The Lord of the Rings earlier this year, though my family have read them (some of my family, anyway). I read The Hobbit last year, but it wasn't till I watched the film, re-read the book, and then moved on to The Lord of the Rings that I actually appreciated it.
I'm currently reading Tolkien: The Authorized Biography, from which I hope I will learn more about J.R.R. Tolkien and his works, and I intend to read the Appendices and the Silmarillion sometime in the future :)
So, that's me :)
Glad to be here - Hi to Lucinda, Elevetha, Eris, Nevey, Azella and other people I know here :)

Deestarr | 1 comments I have been reading Tolkien's books since I was a teenager, I have even read the majority of HOME (histories of middle earth) and most of his non-LOTR related work. I re-read the books regularly and greatly enjoy anything to do with Tolkien

Welcome back to Tolkien's TCBS group in 2018!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

To start the group off with a bang, we are re-reading his epic and iconic work, the Lord of the rings.

I hope you enjoy reading this book (or three!), and being a part of this JRR Tolkien group again.
