Michael (micky74007) OK--seems I finally got this figured out.
I'm an old coot, expect to get even older. I read everything including cereal boxes. I guess the books I enjoy the most take place or are about Ireland. My wife Sherri and I have been married 17 years. We have adopted our 10 yr old grandson Johnny. He's been ours since he was four.
I have really enjoyed the goodreads community. The conversations are fun, the recommendations are much appreciated. I did not realize how many books I read unitl I cataloged them here. Boy, are my lips tired.

Hope to make alot of friends here.

Bec (foreverfnm) Hey Michael! I haven't even got a corner yet but I thought I should say hi!

Do you ever find anything enlightening on cereal boxes? (although I read them too if I have nothing else to focus on at breakfast time!)

It's amazing to think of how many books that we consume, before Goodreads I have no idea how many I read, every now and then I bump into one that I read and haven't put on Goodreads.

You mentioned that you love books set in Ireland... Have you read much set in Scotland? I've read a couple of Ian Rankin books and his character Rebus is amazing. :)

Julia (juliace) Hi Michael & Bec! What do you like to read, fiction or non? I have not heard of Ian Rankin, I'll look him up.

From all the reviews, this sounds like it will be a good read. It is on my TBR list. Thanks for the suggestion.

I remember seeing Christy Moore at an Irishfest in either Fort Lauderdale or Boca Raton a few years back. He does the complete version of Danny Boy. Awesome.

Just reread Seeds From a Birch Tree: Writing Haiku and The Spiritual Journey-- this is really a simple and profound book about the writing of haiku.

Sister-in-laws 40th wedding anniversary.
Going up to Sebastian Fl, about 2 hours north of here.
Sebastian is still old Florida--they only got a Dunkin Donuts in 2009. No Starbucks yet. On the Indian River esturary. Fairly good surfing. Should be a good time.
Thanks for asking.
How are you celebrating the holiday?

We had our equivalent holiday July 1st, Canada Day, but our country is just a baby...only 147 years old. Light a sparkler for me and enjoy. I will watch the festivities on PBS, tonight.

Michael (micky74007) Thank you. Blistering hot down here. From our house we can see three different locations which will be shooting off fireworks tonigt, plus this neighborhood goes pretty much berserk with their own pyrotechnics.
Last year it felt and sounded like a war going on. Great fun! Feel sorry for the dogs through. The older they get, the lest tolerant they become. Sounds like some people I know.

We have an 10 yr old golden retriever & he hates fireworks too. Some people do theirs on the Sun. Night for Canada Day, and some on the Mon., so he had 2 nights to suffer through. We also have fireworks on the 24th of May weekend, Victoria Day, in celebration of British Queen Victoria-since we're still part of the British Commonwealth, so he had had a bunch to suffer through. We can only buy them here for those weekends only-otherwise, they are illegal.

Very hot & extremely humid here-we have a smog alert because of smoke drifting west from Quebec from forest fires.

I am watching the Boston Padres game, since my Jays play the Tigers tonight. Too hot to be outside for long.
