Mark Carver (markcarverbooks) | 10 comments I've always been a fan of dark, melodramatic action movies like The Crow or Underworld and I'm always stoked when I find violent action books dripping with Gothic atmosphere. I would consider this different from action/horror, since the dark stuff is more chilling than horrifying and conjures up dark, moody atmospherics for dramatic effect rather than to scare the readers.

Sadly, I've only come across a few stories that didn't feature vampires/werewolves and/or hunters (I've never been into that brand of paranormal). I'm a sucker for cathedrals, bleak urban cityscapes, and guns blazing from the shadows. These are the stories that I enjoy writing as well, since this is what I like to read.

Any suggestions for non-vampire/werewolf Gothic action books?

The List of Seven by Mark Frost may come close to this kind of thing. It's a good read. My Review

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) You know, I hadn't considered this before. I love older gothic novels, too, but can't imagine them intertwined with action to that kind of degree. You're right that movies have done it well, though, so there should be hope for stories. It seems rare though
