A couple of things and this has SPOILERS.
Was anyone else surprised that Kate was the Champion; somehow I had a feeling it was her after Bran said it wasn't Vincent?
Second: I was so shocked that Jules was in love with Kate, I love Jules.
Third: The death of Jean-Baptiste was unexpected. I posted a discussion question when Until I Die came out asking about JB's relationship with Gaspard, and now its over.

I was not surprised when I found out that Kate was the champion, because I had read a review for If I Should Die before it came out and that was one of the users theories. But, I did think along the same lines.
I also was SO surprised by Jules throughout the whole book. Sad he left at the end.
I am disappointed that JB died. Poor Gaspard.
