Anika's Task: Read the book chosen for my local book club.
Arow's Task: Read a book that has Paranormal as one of the genres on the book page.
Bea's Task: Go to Flashlight Worthy, browse around a bit, then choose a list and read one book from that list. (Repeats do not have to be from the same list.)
Camille's Task: Read a novel published in a summer month-June! July or August.
Christine's Task: Read any book by an author listed as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize other than the title which was nominated.
Coralie's task: Read a book originally written in Spanish OR set entirely in a Spanish speaking country.
Cory (Bigler)'s Task: Read a book that is related to its author's TED Talk.
D's Task: Extra Innings. Read a book by an author who has published more than nine books. The chosen book should not be one of the first nine published.
Deana's Task: Since June brings the start of summer...read a book where the main character has made a new start. For example, life-changing career move, or any MAJOR lifechange.
Don (the book guy)'s Task: Read a short story collection.
itpdx's Task: Read a book with a number in the title expressed in digits.
Jayme (the ghost reader)'s task: Read a book that has Fantasy as one of the genres on the book page.
Jenifer's task: Select a favorite book/author, go to the book's main Goodreads page and click the "Lists with this book" link. Select and read a book by a "new to me" author from one of these lists.
Joanna's Task: Read any book added to your Goodreads shelf in 2007.
Karen GHHS's task: Read a book by an author presenting at the 2013 American Library Association National Conference that I plan to attend at the end of June.
Katy's Task: Read a book that has Historical Fiction as one of the genres on the book page.
Kelly's Task: Read a book that has Dystopia as one of the genres on the book page.
Liz M's Task: Read a book from any edition of the 1001 list that was published in the 2000s.
Louise's Task: "Awesome alliteration": Read a book where the capitalized words in the title is an alliteration.
Mike's Task: Favorite Authors. Read a book by a favorite author - defined as an author whose books I have read at least three of at the date of the start of this challenge.
Paula's Task: Read a book from any edition of the 1001 list that was published in the 2000s.
Rebekah's task: Read a "group reads" from any of RWS's prior challenges.
Rosemary's Task: Read a novel in which the main character goes on a journey. Ideally, the book should comprise a single over-land journey taking place in one world (no sea, air, or space travel on this one).
Tanya's Task: Read a book that has Fantasy as one of the genres on the book page.
Tien's task: Read books set in Asia.
Tobey's task: Read a book that has Fantasy as one of the genres on the book page.

Yes you can choose any task - one you make up yourself, one that lost a poll in the past, one we've done before, or even one someone else is doing this time. But you'll need to tell us that it is the task *you* have selected for 10.9 for Summer 2013.

I'll edit my response to this. You could choose as your task to read group reads from prior challenges - be sure to say which challenges, though.

I am choosing this because I have many fantasy books unread on my TBR list.

Do you mean it has Fantasy as one of the main genres on the right side? If that is what you mean (and I think it is), let's word it:

Ha-Ha Elizabeth, you read my mind! That was exactly what I was thinking! I always end up missing at least one each challenge that I wanted to read. Some I even went ahead and bought on Kindle.
So my DYOT is to read a "group reads" from any of RWS's prior challenges.

Would you mind if we limit this to the last 4 challenges? It's your task, and you don't have to, but all of those books are already in the database, and I won't have to look anything up. ;-)

I've read quite a few of the books listed in the last year.
These are the ones I bought intending to read but didn't get to them and most would not qualify for the last 4 seasons.
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet
Bless Me, Ultima
Titus Groan
A Game of Thrones
Night Soldiers
Daughter of the Forest
White Noise
Redemption in Indigo

I thought I saw this book on the Stephen King's list but now I can't find it. Possibly 20.5 as well?

I just realized task 10.10 was for first or last name and this author has Richard for a middle name.

Not for 10.10. It's still his initials.

Select a favorite book/author, go to the book's main Goodreads page and click the "Lists with this book" link. Select and read a book by a "new to me" author from one of these lists.

I wish I could take credit for it but I "borrowed" it from another task maker on another challenge board. ;)

Read a book by an author presenting at the 2013 American Library Association National Conference that I plan to attend at the end of June.
(Khaled Hosseini, Nick Lake, Jaron Lanier, Patrick Ness and many others to choose from)

Here's the link- it's under the "scheduler" tab:

I enjoyed Winter in Madrid so I will go for task 20.5.
Read a book originally written in Spanish OR set entirely in a Spanish speaking country.

Yay! It might be possible for us (and by "us" I probably mean Elizabeth ;) ) to send you a list of books that were claimed for this task, if you need ideas.

Yes, I can do that if you'd like it Coralie. I haven't looked, but I think there was a nice variety, but you might already have an idea or two yourself. ;-)

A list would be great. I am always open to ideas.

Here you go!

Read books set in Asia
I've started Shantaram though haven't made a dent in it but have got A Suitable Boy which I was planning to read in July anyway PLUS I have The Rainbow Troops to read too. Well, I've got my 3 books lined up!

Read a novel published in a summer month-June! July or August.
It's in the spirit of our summer challenge.
I'm going to read Paradise Dogs: A Novel by Man Martin combos 20.6 & 20.10

I'll put hers under your name, too! (Yes, it's a nice task!)

Read a book by an author who won, or was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, but a different book than the one he was honored for.
Goodness, please help me word th..."
Read any book by a Pulitzer Prize winning author (except the Pulitzer Prize winner). Is that better?

This is a better, more complete list of books in our database that were published in Spanish. It doesn't include any of those books "set in a Spanish speaking country" that were published in a language other than Spanish.
