I can't wait to see it! Mother offered to take me but it turns out that it doesn't come out until the week after I go back to school. I'm going to see it with one of the twins.

I shall start as soon as I can get to my library...which may not be for a while (I'm not even back at school and I already have several massive homework assignments).

The movie looks really good, anybody seen the trailer?

message 8: by Hannah, Ms really sweet and very thankful ;) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Hannah (hannah109) | 681 comments Mod
Yup- I have to admit that I only really want to see it because of the clothes.

message 9: by Angelique (new) - added it

Angelique (angelique682) Haha I love the Flapper era! It's so... aaah... elegant?

And fun: everyone who was anyone was living it up in New York or Chicago, drinking illegally, smoking (not that I consider that a good thing, but for argument's sake), and wearing clothes that laughed at the Victorian era. Actual ARMS were seen in the 20s, and knees.

If I could live in any given era, I'd live from 1920-1927 (because after that things started to go a bit sour).

What was worn after that? I have no sense of what was worn in the 30s to the 60s. Our disco social theme is 8os hair. I have an awesome hairstyle and outfit for it.

message 12: by Angelique (new) - added it

Angelique (angelique682) It fluctuated a lot Jess. Went from long skirts (maxi skirts) to mini's, bell bottoms. A quick way to see is to just google images of 30's fashion and 40's fashion etc. I have read a couple of really good books that run through that era and one of them actually centred on fashion. It changed quite a bit. Some of it really inspired, some of it really bad.

Hmmmm, I'm going to search it.

The reason I wouldn't want to live after 1927 is because the Great Depression started in earnest in 1929, but the beginning of the end was in 1927. I love 50s and early 60s fashion- it's so feminine, and it really suits me.

You should watch movies from the 80s to see what they wore their hair like (I recommend The Breakfast Club because I can't be bothered watching it myself but I really want to know what it's about).

message 15: by Angelique (new) - added it

Angelique (angelique682) Haha I really want to watch it but cannot get my hands on it in SA

I so want to watch it since I watched Pitch Perfect for the second time. I have that song Don't You stuck in my head. Bella sang it soooooooo good.

Innaya | 102 comments i like to watch really old movies, and the ones which are set in old times. but it's hard to find them. i just watched "Dressed To Kill" and "Elizabeth". both are really cool!

message 18: by Innaya (new) - added it

Innaya | 102 comments ooh. everyone should watch 'em! Dressed To Kill is a Basil Rathbone movie and reallllly cool! u must have guessed that yes, it's a Sherlock Holmes movie.
and Elizabeth is reaaallllyyy awesome, it's about the queen, but it is just soo awesome. wait! tthere's Christopher Eccelston and Daniel Craig and lots of of others in it! christopher Eccelston!

Oooh yay! I've never heard of it. I haven't watched that many old or old-time based movies, but I just watched The Duchess. It was based on the real duchess of Devonshire, they read all her letters. She had a really interesting but strange life.

Innaya | 102 comments what if we all live two lives but forget it. i mean, we are actually something but we have to be average humans for a short time everyday and while we are doing it, we forget what we actually are. and then we go back to being what we are and then back to human and so on but we just don't remember!
yes, i know it feels odd now.

I really want to watch both Elizabeth and The Duchess. I remember when they first came out- I was 6 or 7 at the time- and I remember really wanting to see them but they were both Ms, so of course my mother gave this horrified look like 'you can't be wanting to watch THAT movie'. I don't think even she's seen them.

You could NOT watch The Duchess when you were 6 or 7. It has a million sex scenes, affairs and her husband rapes her. It was all pretty disturbing.

Her HUSBAND rapes her? Like, on their wedding night? Or was it after? I read a book once where the husband raped his wife because she was trying to force him to sign something and he wanted to show her what it was like to have to do it, but somehow I doubt that's what happened in The Duchess.

I just saw the trailer and it looks really like Anna Karenina- high society, fashionable, young wife falls in love with a man other than her husband. Man asks her to run away. Husband threatens her. Everything falls apart and she commits suicide/runs back to her husband/makes a supposedly courageous decision and goes with her lover.

Angelique (angelique682) Haha I just read your post about Pitch perfect - and get this, I am watching it right now. HEEHEE

Everything happens completely differently to that, Hannah. It's completely unexpected and different to most movies like it. I've watched Pitch Perfect twice and only just realised that Anna Kendrick (Becca) is Jessica Stanley in Twilight.

I don't know how that's possible, but then I only just realised that whats-his-face who plays Jace in City of Bones was one of the Volturi in New Moon (don't ask me which one).

We'll have to get it out when we choose our movies tomorrow- Papa will most let us get almost anything that we want (within reason), and we'll need at least 5 movies to last the night ;).

message 28: by Jessica, Ms. fun and very entertaining (new)

Jessica (jesskingxoxo) | 876 comments Mod
Yeah, you can get 5 weekly movies for 5 dollars but I think Pitch Perfect is o/night. Can we get Beautiful Creatures if it's there? Whenever we go to Video Ezy it's all taken :(

Hannah (hannah109) | 681 comments Mod
Beautiful Creatures come out next week I think, but if it's there then definitely. There's no reason we can't get Pitch Perfect out, even if it is only overnight (but I think it's up to 3 days now).

We forgot Pitch Perfect! How could we forget! Em still has to see it.

I know! I'm actually legitimately upset about that- it's one of my favourite movies.

My mother was Not Impressed that we got Beautiful Creatures out. When I asked why she said that it has the devil in it. I couldn't help but notice the similarities of what she said and what the evil woman with the brownies says...

Jessica (jesskingxoxo) | 876 comments Mod
She doesn't like Beautiful Creatures? It doesn't genuinely have the actual devil in it though.

Exactly. But since when have I ever done as she told me?
