Nikka (nikkam) | 6 comments I'm having some difficulty finding new books to read. I tend to lean more toward series then stand alone novels, but at this point I'm willing to try anything. My biggest problem is that I go through books so quickly that I'm stuck waiting for new books in all my fav series, or stuck waiting for them to come out into paperback. So I figure you guys can help me out here.

A quick list of what I've already read and a quick rating on the overall series:

Anita Blake - Laurell K Hamilton ****
Women of the Otherworld - Kelley Armstrong *****
Weather Wardens/Outcast - Rachel Caine *****
Rachel Morgan (Hollows) - Kim Harrison *****
Dresden Files - Jim Butcher *****
Zodiac Series - Vicki Petterson *****
Werecat Series - Rachel Vincent ****
Blood Ties series - Jennifer Armintrout ****
Mercy Thompson / Alpha & Omega - Patricia Briggs ****
Kitty the Werewolf - Carrie Vaughan ***
Cassie Palmer/Midnights Daughter - Karen Chance *****
Magic Series - Ilona Andrews ****
Dante Valentine - Lilith Saintcrow ****
Night Huntress - Jeaniene Frost *****
Rogue Mage - FAith Hunter ***
Cal Leandros - Rob Thurman ***
Twilight series - Stephanie Meyer ***
Vampire Chronicles - Anne Rice ***
Nightside Series - Simon R. Green ***
Witchling - YAsmine Galnorm * (didn't bother with the rest)
Devil Inside - Jenna Black ** (currently reading, and not enjoying at all.)

I'm probably missing a couple, but that should be more then enough to get an idea of what I'm into. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Jessa Slade (jessaslade) | 114 comments You seem to prefer the darker stuff, but for lighter you could try Stephanie Rowe or Angie Fox.

Oh, back to darker (always!) how about Meljean Brook (Guardian series) and Jessica Andersen (Final Prophecy series)?

I am very into the darker stuff. I`m always willing to give the lighter stuff a go, but usually find my way back to the dark side.

I`m keeping a list of all the books mentioned (I did post this in a couple different groups) and I intend to check everything listed out. Thanks!

Ok, someone forgot to put up the Tony Foster series also by Tanya Huff. Technically, while this IS a stand alone series (3 books long) you really SHOULD read the Victory Nelson (aka Vicky Nelson) series first, since Tony starts out in the Vicky books. Also, while Huff isn't planning on writing any more NOVELS featurning Vicky OR Tony, there are some short stories that go along with thest 2 series.

Nightwalker The First Dark Days Novel by Jocelynn Drake

Diana Jane (dees_world) | 13 comments try Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy Series... The whole series isn't finished yet but you will enjoy them ;)

Sarah (sarahmicheal) | 19 comments Have you ever tried reading any sci-fi or futuristic romance? There are plenty out there with paranormal elements, but just set on space ships or other planets.

S.L. Viehl's Stardoc series, starts with Stardoc, is pretty good. I began reading it when I started running out of interesting paranormal series to read. The same author writes the Darkyn series, but Stardoc is actually sci-fi about a woman who is an extremely talented surgeon who treats all kinds of bizarre alien medical cases. There's a bit of romance, lots of adventure, mystery, a little of everything is thrown in.

Also, you might like books by Linnea Sinclair. Again, this is sci-fi romance, but nothing overly technical or anything, just plain good reading. Her books focus more on the romance than Viehl's. I really liked Games of Command and Finders Keepers

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 371 comments The guardian series by Jenna Black is better than the Morgan Kingsley books, they do get better after the first one though - if you can stick with them. It wasn't til the last couple of pages of the 1st book that I got into the Guardian books, you might like them.

I pushed myself through the first one, and once I got about halfway through it, it got more bearable. I'm working on the second in the Morgan Kinsley series at the moment, giving it a chance, and it's alright. I doubt I'll ever read them again. I haven't looked into her guardian series at all. I'll check it out.

Ok, this is an old series--and its DEFINATELY UF and not PNR. Its the Hawk and Fisher series by Simon R. Green (he also writes the Nightside series, and the Deathstalker series.) There is no romance in this series, altho the 2 main characters ARE married to each other. Green wrote the 6 books that comprise the "main" body of the Hawk and Fisher series first, then wrote a prequel and then finally an 8th book that finished off the series. The prequel is a LOT different from the other 7 books in the series. But still an excellent read. Personally, I recommend reading them in the order written. The "first" 6 books can be found in 2 volumes Guards of Haven and Swords of Haven then the other 2 books are Blue Moon Rising (the prequel) and Beyond The Blue Moon

Leana (craftychick) | 44 comments Hi! I saw it was mentioned by some other people as well, but definitely read Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris! It's one of my favorites for sure!!! It's a series and the 1st book is called Dead Until Dark. HBO made the series True Blood based off of it. Although I think the show isn't as good as the books {are they ever!} I still watch it to see what stupid twists and turns they come up with from the original story. I know you have mentioned mostly adult series, but another one of my favorite is The Chronicals Of Narnia. Hope this helps! :)

I did enjoy the rest of them, it was nice reading something different for a change. As nasty as he is - I love Adam! I will buy the next one. I just Really enjoyed Gabriel, Jules and Drake's book more. My friend read the first Morgan book and wasn't too keen, she has the rest of mine now... I'm trying to convert her!

Jessa Slade (jessaslade) | 114 comments I forgot to add Devon Monk's Magic series (not sure if it has a formal series name, but all the titles have magic in them). The first is Magic to the BoneMagic to the Bone and I really enjoyed the way she set up the cost of using magic. Plus, the story is set in my town :)

Okay since every one of the book series and or authors on your list or ones I could think of that leaves only a few on the "darker side" that I think you may also like:
The Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole
The Nocturne City Novels/Nee Luna Wilder Books by Caitlin Kittredge
Wing's In The Night series by Maggie Shayne (about Reaper,Gregor, Briar and gang of misfit vamps)
Also soon there is another series coming out by Faith Hunter featuring "Jane Yellowrock" Vamp Hunter/Shapeshifter
Blood Bargain and Matters Of The Blood by Maria Lima
Wicked Game by Jeri-Smith Ready 2nd in series is Bad To The Bone out soon
Vampire Babylon Series by Chris Marie Green
Hope some of these are to your liking... Jackie

Jessa Slade (jessaslade) | 114 comments How did I forget Wicked Game?! I second that one, and the cover of book 2 is the definition of rad.

message 22: by Karen (new)

Karen (karmolina) | 2 comments Two of my favorite series are JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood and Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling Series. I also liked the Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole and the Highlander Series by Karen Marie Moning.

Leana (craftychick) | 44 comments The Gargoyle is an awesome book!!! It's crazy but intentse and it keeps you reading!

message 24: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 44 comments I think the author's descriptiveness about everything like he's telling you in person and you aren't just reading it is what I loved the most. But you are right, that part was crazy!!! Deffinitely recomend it!

message 25: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 44 comments I don't want to give anything away, but from the beginning I was sunk in. The way he opens the book was just beyond anything I have read before. So much description. It was like the incident was froze in time.

jeanie lepore (jylepore) | 32 comments I also have that problem, and it looks like May is going to be a slow month for new releases.
There are four series that haven't been mentioned possibly because they aren't strictly PNR but I loved them so...

Kushiel's Dart
Daughter of the Blood
Poison Study

Cast in Shadow

Poison Study was GREAT. I have a copy of that that is autographed by Maria. Also have Magic Study (again, autographed) and waiting for Memorial Day weekend to get the last one autographed. I know, I know--autograph hound, right? :o)

Adrienne i've just got my library reservation of Poison Study ::i'm looking forward to reading it::our library has all three books of the series::which is good::quite often they have books missing from series which is really annoying::

I got mine back when Maria was up for the Compton Crook Award for it. She was at Balticon (BSFS which awards it is the sponsor for Balticon) and gave a "class" in poison tasting. She used CHOCOLATE for her "poison" and we had to tell what kind of chocolate it was just from tasting it. Sigh, a woman after all our hearts, right?
