Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hello! As the first member to join after Creation, I feel as though I should get the ball rolling with an introduction:

"Hi! My name is Becky, and I love YA books even though I'm an adult..."

message 2: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Hi Everyone!!! \o/--> me waving

message 3: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Hi everyone! My name is Allison, I am a very mature minded person that loves YA.

:D

message 4: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) You can create the folder and then move the thread. :P

message 5: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Or you could just make me a Mod. :)

message 6: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yes ma'am.

message 7: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) *deletes all evidence of immaturity* Oh no! Where did I go? ;)

message 8: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) me too! Whew, glad we're all so adult-like.

message 9: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I am very gld to be here, in the company of like minded, mature, forward thinking adults. I look forward to intense, but well behaved debates regarding YA books and arising issues.

Thank you

message 10: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Hey everyone! Thanks, Becky, for the invite! I love YA books! I've been kind of using my boys as my excuse for still reading them, but it's nice to know that I don't need an excuse anymore! Happy to be here!

message 11: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ha ha! I expected someone to call me on my snooty intro! I'm not snooty, I swear!!! LOL

Hi Kathy:)

message 12: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Not snooty at all, Kandice! lol

message 13: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Welcome Kathy!

I'm Laura, and I'm old and 40. Now that we've gotten that out of the way....

I don't work with kids currently, but in the future I'd like to do some volunteer work with abused children. So, I'd really like to immerse myself in the YA world, find out what the best YA books are, and start getting them to kids that need them! Which is why I wanted to be involved with this group.

And Fiona's terrific and techno-savvy, so....she'll be a great teacher and leader.

message 14: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Welcome Kathy! Glad you came!

Hey, Laura! You aren't alone....I'll be 40 in June. (squints in pain at the thought.....eeeek!)

message 16: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) YAY, another oldie but goodie! Hee hee....the more YA I read, the more I love it tho, so you're never too old!

message 17: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Laura wrote: "YAY, another oldie but goodie! Hee hee....the more YA I read, the more I love it tho, so you're never too old!"

Exactly! My sentiments exactly!

message 18: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm very close to 40, but I don't FEEL that old yet:) (Laura is NOT old BTW)

message 19: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Fiona wrote: "You're only old when you feel old.

I'm 24 years old and I probably feel older then you all put together."

I don't know about that... I feel VERY old. I'm a huge worry-wart.

message 20: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Hi Kathy!

message 21: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Awwww, thats not good. So if we read YA books....do we suddenly turn 14 or 15 again? I could go for that!

message 22: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Fiona wrote: "Yeah, maybe - but up it to 16 because I really don't want to have to go through my GCSE's!"

What are GCSE's?

message 23: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Hi Kathy!

message 24: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Hi, Jackie, Allison....everyone!!! (Waving like crazy!)

I,myself, love the pile of books! :)

message 25: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) A bit boring for this group, but way better than the question mark. ;)

message 26: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Could we possibly then, find a pic of a character from a kids book reading? Just a thought....

message 27: by Kandice (new)

Kandice We had discussed one of the monsters from Where the Wild Things Are.

message 28: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Ya gotta love those monsters!! :)

message 29: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Hi guys! I know a few of you. I'm Kristen, a 24 year old book a holic who works in a middle school library. I love my job and I love reading when I can nab the chance to. My big goal this year is to read more than 200 books and to make a dent in the TBR books I actually own. I'm also a libraryaholic and can't leave the library without a few books in my bag even if I have 20 + at home still to read.

200 books???? Wow! I would give anything to be able to read that many in a year! Good luck! I'll be thrilled with my 60! That's until I win lotto and I can retire to read full time! ;)

message 39: by Kandice (last edited Apr 28, 2009 01:00PM) (new)

Kandice Welcome, everyone. I have to admit, I didn't read YA until I was way over that age! I really like what I've read so far, and am constantly amazed at what qualifies.

message 40: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Welcome Liz! I've always wanted to read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Haven't gotten to that one yet.

message 41: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Hello! I'm a mom of 4 from MN. I don't think I would've started reading YA if it weren't for my kids, but I quickly learned that I love it! I'm looking forward to chatting with you all about YA books...

message 42: by Laura (new)

message 50: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sbez05) | 30 comments I'm Stephanie, I'm 25, and a lover of good young adult lit! I don't have any kids, just nieces and nephews and they're all under the age of 3, so I can't hide behind them. ;) I just like YA lit - often it comes across much more impressively written than so-called "adult lit."
