Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Let’s play Name that Zombie (Book or Movie)
Hello My Fellow Zombie Freaks. The conversation of "how" the zombie apocalypse happened has come up more then once in our group. I got to thinking, Just how many ways a zombie can be made. Zombie virus, Voodoo, Witchcraft, Alien infestation, Radioactive.. are there any other ways?
So maybe in this thread we can gather up some titles? I imagine this list will be long so I am going to start a thread for each of the ways that I know. If you have a different way, feel free to make a thread.
The point here is to gather up some names of books and movies of each method.
This thread is dedicated to Plague zombies:

Yup, you got the idea, run with it :) And Thanks for playing :D
If we get enough books in the different types I plan on starting up a listopia for each of them.

Randy Harmelink | 2188 comments Although technically most plague/infected stories aren't really zombies. They don't resurrect from the dead.

It's just the storylines end up being very similar because they are really stories about the survivors, not about the entities chasing them down.

I always called the British TV series Survivors a "zombie series without the zombies", because it's basically just the remaining 5% of the population after a deadly plague preying upon each other.

message 9: by Tammy K. (last edited Jul 17, 2013 08:59PM) (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) Wait .. I watched the British TV series Survivors.. are you sure there weren't zombies?

When I put thought into making these lists, it was because so many different zombies exist.
You are correct that it does appear that Death .. as in risen from the grave yard .. the voodoo Dr. and necromancer .. was eliminated when the zombie horror writers (and I include Movie Script writers in this) decided it would be more interesting to try a quick conversion without the time delay that a funeral, burial, and voodoo Dr./necromancer require.
Zombies have evolved.. yes, I said that a fictional monster has changed in it's nature. Such a strange thing to say but it's happened and is adding the zest back into the subgenre.

Glyn Gardner | 37 comments Ok, I see your point. How about a good old Romero night of the Living Dead?

message 11: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink | 2188 comments They never did get into the cause for NOTLD...but they were true zombies that had been reanimated after death, not living people with an infection.

Hmm. Since there are necromancers involved, I would have said "Voodoo and Witchcraft (sorcery) zombies:".

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) hmm you might be right but I recall the first lines say something about "before the virus came" location 24 page 7.
I guess I might be posting it here too early?

message 32: by Tammy K. (new)

Tammy K. (rambles_of_a_reader) I just did a search for the word Witch inside the book Desolation, there are five occurrences of the word. I did not look too much into them other then to see that they are there. I do not want to spoil the book for myself as most of them are at pages 113-114

I didn't find the words necormancy or necormancer but it could be that they spelled it wrong or used another word
Maybe the virus caused the zombies but they were also able to be controlled by the necormancer?
We will see in the buddy read.

Ahem. You spelled it wrong. :)

Necromancer is in the book 121 times. Virus is there 64 times. And, for those still reading, zombie is there 390 times. :)

One more thing you can do with a Kindle that you can't do with a paperback book!

I've been trying to decide if I want to wait until it gets to NetFlix, or pay the $3.99 to Amazon to watch it on Instant Video there.

Too bad they don't offer a 15 min sample for movies.

Netflix can take a while to get movies.

Randy Harmelink | 2188 comments The Battery does have a trailer on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RAC0u...

On one of the trailers, the verbiage says the movie was filmed in 15 days, on a budget of $6000. So probably volunteers instead of SAG actors. :)

PS: Based on the trailer, I don't think I'll pay $3.99.

Sumiko Saulson (sumiko_saulson) | 11 comments In my own book, "Warmth," zombies are a part of the life cycle of ghouls, who are living flesh-and-blood consuming entities in life after infection (more similar to vampires than zombies), but whom after death reanimate as zombies for the sole biological purpose of spreading the infection: ghouls are only contagious during the zombie phase of their existence.
