What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read a book for children in 2007-2008 and the librarian told me it was new. It was written by someone with a strange pen name but when we looked on the inside cover it was written by an Italian person - I remember it was like Baccarelli or something - it had two 'c's in it.
The book involved a brother and sister moving into a new house and discovering a secret door or passageway in the house. This led to different chambers and mysteries and they end up solving the mystery.
The book I read was dark red and had an illustration of the siblings and torches (the flaming kind).
My friends and I have been desperate to find this book since we read it 6 years ago because we don't have lives and should get outside a little more. \m/
