If you want we can read more and I'll try to keep up!

Oh, and welcome to our buddy reading circle! :)

I'll join in with this if it's pickedas my clean our shelf challenge book. I've had this series for ages and not read it!

How old are you, Martha? Are you a teen?

Yeah I'm only reading all those books on the same day because they're ones I've got a copy of and want to read! XD Cool glad you're joining in with The Iron King - hope it's good!

I already have a Kindle copy of it... I got it right after I finished The Eternity Cure, which was ah-mazing!! <3

Not it isn't. The two series are by the same author but there is no connection between them.

I read a few from uni so I'm at least at 24%. It hasn't even introduced me to the world building yet and I'm already rolling my eyes.
So what's this purpose? Seems all angels/angel bloods are supposed to have it. But with Clara's situation, with all that forest fire, and that boy, I can't quite make out for what it specifically is. I'm guessing this boy is her love interest.
Also, what's with changing of hair colors once you have your purpose? Seriously?!
Anyway, reading on :)

I'm usually really wary about angel books. Something about them just doesn't inspire confidence in me. But at the moment I'm really enjoying this one! I'm glad her mum seems more of a main character than parents in most fantasy YA books. Usually the parents are just there because the main character needs parents... and the author quickly forgets about them. This is a nice change. Hope it stays good!

Yeah I don't get the hair thing either. What's that about? Haha! The boy is definitely going to be her love interest - it's so obvious!

I know, I know. it's frustrating! I read the synopsis again and confirmed it. :(
Anyway, I'm at 53%. It's over half and I haven't seen any action or introduction to the world building or any hint of answers to my questions. I hope it picks up pace very soon!

Now that I finish it I can sum up this book's strengths & weaknesses. The action and a few twists picked up pace ONLY IN THE LAST 13% of the book and I was just wishing it happened like that in the beginning so it grabbed interest. I felt boredom throughout it. The 1st parts were obviously not good, since it didn't show much for the paranormal genre for the book. In fact, I didn't feel its paranormal aspect, except of course the last 13%. Also, the characters are overly clichéd.
I'm still confused, and I think I'll still read Hallowed. ONLY because I'm tempted to know the other characters' identity and reactions. So that still counts for something. Obviously things were left vague in this book. Still unsure!

I'm a little behind but I totally agree with you that I'm glad the mother is actually involved. She drives some plot so far and that seems rare in YA. Yay for parents who aren't MIA!

Haha I know right?! :D

I think it actually really worked in this one. Wasn't as forced or shallow as so many of them are. (view spoiler)

Me too! I'm Team Tucker. Greta says that the love triangle was more prevalent in the sequel. Might not even read that one for a while!

Goodreads synopsis
"In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . . Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart."
