Diamond Drake (diamondthewriter) After participating in a creative writing exercise the other night, it made me think about writing stories with other authors. I never considered it before because my writing style is so weird. I always write the ending first and work my way back so I know it would be difficult for me to collaborate with another author. How about you? Could you or would you want to co-author a book?

That's very interesting that you write backwards. I wrote a book because I visualized it's ending first and wrote around it. Then when I finished it I had a totally different ending lol. Then my computer crashed and I learned that frustrating day to never put all your apples in one basket! Ok I'm rambling. Back to your question.

I was thinking the same thing! I've never done it. But I've read a few collab novels and I always wondered how they did it. It sounds like a wonderful idea. But of course you'd have to weigh your pros and cons out. For me the pros would be, you would learn and grow so much as a writer. Free editing you can't beat that! And when you have writer's block they won't (hopefully). The story would be that much better. The cons, the writer's styles couldn't be too off or the story would likely be a mess. People are typically protective and sensitive of their babies so possible control issues could erupt.

But then again it's been done successfully plenty of times. That sounds interesting. Something to think about. I've done it with spoken word poetry a few times, but never a novel.

I am helping my husband write his first novel right now. He is driving it though and I don't try to control his story, I just restructure sentences, add a few adjectives and give him occasional scene suggestions, so overall I guess it is possible to collab.

Diamond Drake (diamondthewriter) During an author event in Sacramento, one writer talked about collaborating with a good friend of hers. She said that one of them would write a chapter, send it to the other, and then that person would write a chapter, and on and on. It tickled me because she described it like, "Oh, okay, so you wanna lock people in closets, huh?" And then her character would do something crazy to her friend's character! ha,ha,ha That sounds fun, but I wonder how authors deal with it when they don't particularly like what the other author has written. I mean, both people are entitled to their creativity, right? That would be the biggest challenge for me. Collaboration sounds great, but I don't know if I could really do it. I honestly don't know.
