Preston | 20148 comments I'm ready to screen because I keep getting politicians ringing my doorbell wanting me to sign petitions and vote for them and I don't give a freak about them.

message 2: by Monika (new)

Monika | 2175 comments I'm ready to scream because our co-mods keep adding new threads! How's a person to keep up? :)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments I'm ready to scream because the radio station insists on drowning us with Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars(sp?). Blah.

message 4: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments I'm ready to scream that It's driving me crazy that I don't know if Monika and Lori's declarations belong in the "I'm ready to scream..." thread or the "...it's driving me crazy..." thread.

Roger Kean | 17278 comments I'm ready to scream because there was yet another damned piece of research revealed on BBC Breakfast suggesting it's really good for you.

message 7: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Is it by the same people who go back and forth over the validity of eating eggs?

Rick | 15794 comments Lori wrote: "Is it by the same people who go back and forth over the validity of eating eggs?

Wait... they're doing a study on that.

message 9: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Gulliver must have been ready to scream at the people who went back and forth over the validity of cracking open their hard boiled eggs at the big end or the little end, and that study certainly produced nothing new… just another war.

message 10: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments I'm ready to scream because I started Thunderbolt:Torn Enemy of Rome a couple days ago and all I want to do is read it and now work on my thesis. I stupidly even brought my copy with me to campus today. How moronic was that? At least I'm not hiccuping today. ;)

message 11: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Oh, don't I remember doing that numerous times ...

Roger is a genius. Not only does he bring us Malco who is so young yet so strong, clever, handsome, adept with weapons and strategy and loyal to Hannibal (and a great leader himself with the men under Malco's command) but Mr. Kean also uses your left side to cure you of the intolerably annoying hiccups.

He brought to life Juba and Trebon who are both men of great honor and men of great affection too. It is from a time more than two thousand years ago but Roger makes it all seem alive, immediate and vibrant today.

message 13: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments I'm ready to scream with embarrassment.

I want to get back to Carthage again (for real, it's a great place, a small part of Tunis), but a bit later than Malco's time, forward to the reign of Antoninus Pius. But I fear ol' Haary will have to come first.

message 14: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments To Rick, for his Thunderbolt problems:

message 15: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments There, there [Pat, Pat] No need to worry, Doctor Roger dear, [or apologize] I'm trying to limit myself to one chapter a day. ;)

But it's awfully hard to not keep reading. ;)

message 16: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Jeez, once they're there those damned gifs just keep on going, don't they!

I was always told, a chapter a day keeps the doctor away.

message 17: by Rick (last edited Jul 25, 2013 06:58AM) (new)

Rick | 15794 comments Doctor who?

WAIT! I DON'T want he Doctor kept away!!!

I want my DOCTOR NOW !!

message 18: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Don't you mean Doctor No?

message 19: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments Lori wrote: "Don't you mean Doctor No?"

No? No! You can keep that doctor. I'm ready to scream because I want a Doctor who travels through time and space, not one that tortures British agents who are trying to make the world safe for Queen, country and Royal babies.

message 20: by Lori S. (last edited Jul 25, 2013 08:05AM) (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments LOL - Quite right. My bad. :o)
For the record, I want my Doctor back too, but it doesn't look all that promising (for a mulit-Doctor story that is). Sigh.

message 21: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments I'm ready to scream because a friend put the idea of a "degeneration" in my head and then having David Tennant return for more televised adventures. Why, oh why would she do that!? Now, I can't get it out of my head. I know it would never happen and the anniversary special is just going to make cry like a baby - I know it.

message 22: by Lori S. (last edited Jul 25, 2013 09:01AM) (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments I'd hope she would not be so cruel! How could she mention degeneration? :o(

Maybe I should get the Big Finish audio stories instead ...

Whoa! I want that ...

I've been trying to avoid the audiobooks, but my reserve is unravelling fast...

message 24: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments I'm ready to scream becaues...

I want to know who's going to be the new Doctor, and I want to know right now!

message 25: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Spoilers! In that annoying voice Alex Kingston uses for River Song.

To be honest though, it would be nice to know once and for all just so the little hints and speculations can die down. On the other hand, that would just lead to different forms of speculation and hints, wouldn't it? Sigh ...

message 26: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments I LOVE it when River does that. It makes me all gooey inside, almost makes me wish I liked girls in that way.

If some cute (alien) boy walked up to me, smiled and said "Spoilers." I swear I would just melt. ;)

Snickers.

I wish I liked River, I really do, but she started driving me up the wall in Silence In the Library - the very first time she says "sweetie" my teeth were clinching and I knew, I knew I was going to be a very unhappy person for a while. Sigh.

Romance between companions and other characters in Doctor Who I can handle. The Doctor as the center of focus for a romance - NOPE. He's an alien. He's never interested in such mundane things and I hope the next show runner goes back to no romance with the Doctor.

message 29: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments I'm ready to scream beacause ...

I have finally gotten a friend to start watching Doctor Who and I've been re-watching the DVDs before I lend them to her. I just finished watching the 3rd Series and I was reminded of how much I liked Martha, but was so annoyed at how she got shafted because the Doctor just kept mooning over his lost Rose. I've been a fan for very long, but I think I can see what you mean. I do enjoy River, in part because her timeline and the Doctor's were so out of snyc - no that this is not an issue, and most of the spoilers have been spoiled, the queerness of their relationship doesn't have the same magic. I would LOVE to see her show up again after good long break though - maybe use her needing to be rescued again, that was so much fun. But I also realize that from the production stand point it is probably time to move on.

Boyd (boydwalker) | 2304 comments Rick, /s> :Lori, Doctors, and other interested parties,

Thank you for bring up these issues because I had not thought of the cohort relationships before.

Maybe more people would be interested in discussing Whovian matters. One of you could create a Doctor Who topic in the section for Topics Created by Members… or not. Feel free to continue to keep your comments here in I'm ready to scream because… or take advantage of Topics Created by Members to involve The Doctor more visibly in the Complaint Department.

Rick | 15794 comments Great, thanks Preston ... Now I'm wasting my time watching that hysterically wonderful clip again. I do love that clip it is outrageously funny and I cannot stop laughing while I'm watching it. Which is of course annoying all people around me in the computer lab on campus that I'm in right now. Oh well, they don't know what they're missing. ;)

"Bite me alien boy!" ;)

I'm ready to scream because there is so much bad, I mean really bad, music out there!!

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Danny wrote: "I'm ready to scream because there is so much bad, I mean really bad, music out there!!"

Truth

message 35: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments Yes, there is but everyone defines "bad" in their own unique way. But it is extremely frustrating to have to listen to music that one believes is bad when others seem to love it.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

That is very true, Rick.

message 37: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments And have you ever been rockin' out to a favorite tune only to have someone sneer at you? Don't we all have our guilty pleasures?

But why is there so much really bad music out there?

message 38: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments We should make a list of all the bad music that must been banned.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Everyone's taste is different. I'm basically referring to those artists out there who are famous but can't sing. Those that think they can sing, but need the special tools to aid their voices, etc. I'm very picky, I guess:-) A list would be good, Preston:-)
Saw Pat Benatar last month, now there is a women who can sing! Her husband is a fantastic muscician too!

message 40: by Preston, Moderator (last edited Aug 14, 2013 02:02PM) (new)

Preston | 20148 comments

We should ban bad singers and bad songs
Banned
Elvis Presley
Tom Jones
German Oom pah bands
Austrailian Hip Hop
National Anthems
Irish music mentioning shamrocks
French music
Polkas
Protest music
All Non-western music
Country and western music
Old English ballads
Non-secular music
Music of the Republic of Madagascar
Educational children's song
Songs sung while sitting around campfires
Broadway musicals

This is just a start. We can add on others.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, Preston, quite the list! You don't like Elvis? So my singing while driving likely is similar to singing around a campfire.

message 42: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments As others have pointed out, tastes are highly individualistic - for instance I would add:

most classical music (especially piano/guitar music)
modern classical music (except for soundtrack music)
a good majority of 60s rock music
some 70s rock music
One Direction/Most boy bands
Taylor Swift
any and all earworms since earworms are usually of music I hate
...

Preston | 20148 comments Danny wrote: "Wow, Preston, quite the list! You don't like Elvis? So my singing while driving likely is similar to singing around a campfire."

I would love to sing around the campfire with you, your beautiful man and your puppies and singing in the car is fun as long as you don't tap the gas pedal to the beat of the music.

This list has nothing to do with my tastes in music. The indigenous music of Madagascar is in fact magnificent to my ears as is much nonwestern music. I could do without broadway musicals though :)

The point of the list was to show how oppressive and repressive it would be to enslave ourselves to only the "correct" music as Russia did under Stalin when my favorite composer Dimitri Shostakovich was frequently in danger of being forever silenced. And like Putin is has done to Russian pop artists whose music offended him.

I was hoping someone would get indignant about the idea of banning any music at all.

I'm listening to Shostakovich 24 Preludes and Fugues Opus 87 which under Lori's list would be banned because it is played on piano and is classical. You fascist! <-grin->

I would agree with restrictions on an individual's personal music while in public by requiring earphones except at concerts in the park or street festivals. I hate loud boom boxes. But banning any music at all, even horrific boy bands, is like banning any genre of books.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

You can come and sing with us anytime, Preston:-)
You make very smart points!
At work, can't say any more at this time:-)

Rick | 15794 comments Preston wrote: "I was hoping someone would get indignant about the idea of banning any music at all."

That was kinda what I was getting at when I wrote "Yes, there is but everyone defines "bad" in their own unique way. But it is extremely frustrating to have to listen to music that one believes is bad when others seem to love it." So much for tact.

How's this: FASCIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How dare you ban my music!

message 46: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Your points are good Preston and I agree with you. I really wouldn't ban anyone's music, any more than I would try to ban books of all stripes, but I do think, and wish, people ought to and would exercise some common courtesy when playing their music. However, as you know, driving down any given street anywhere you're going to be inundated with other people's tastes: hip-hop, Mexican pop, rock, rap ... I would love to hook up a tannoy to my stereo and blast some war pipes at the world, maybe some Tannahill Weavers or the Battlefield Band someday...

message 47: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments I'm ready to scream because... people don't seem to realize just how loud the music in their headphones/earbuds really is. College students can be so stupid/insensitive. Wait... I'm a college student...

Jennifer (desdinova) I am ready to scream because my downstairs neighbor likes to play with the water whenever I get in the shower.
I believe she has succeeded in giving me actual burns tonight from the scalding I just got.
